Hey GLACURH!

The past two and a half years at Indiana State have been the best years of my life. The university and affiliated organizations, such as GLACURH, have given me so many opportunities and experiences. I can’t think of anything I’d rather be doing with my life right now.

RHA and NRHH are more than just a couple clubs on campus to me. Those two groups are such a large part of my life. As I prepare to enter my final year of undergrad, I’ve thought a lot about what I wanted to do with these groups. I feel like even though I have a few different options, one stands out above the rest. I want to serve the region that has done so much for me and continues to do so much for all of the students at its affiliated schools.

I’ve chosen to bid for Associate Director of NRHH because I feel like I can be a great leader for the organization and all of our chapters. I believe I can set the course for our future and better incorporate NRHH into the rest of NACURH and GLACURH as well as on each of your campuses.

Some NRHH chapters are stronger than others and I promise to help each of you and meet your chapter where you currently are. As the longest serving active member of ISU’s chapter, I have helped our NRHH go from nearly dying out to being a self-sustaining organization. I have seen my own chapter at its best and worst moments and can use that experience to help the entire region. Whether you are well established or just starting out, there’s always room to grow and improve. As your Associate Director, I can help all of you to achieve whatever it is that you want to achieve.

I want to connect with each of you and your chapters throughout my term. You’ll see specifically how I plan to do this later in my bid. I want to be more than just that person that emails you when something is happening or a deadline is approaching. I want to develop a connection with you and help you reach your goals. NRHH at the regional and NACURH levels should be a strong resource for all chapters. You pay to be a part of this group, and I strongly believe that you should always be getting something out of it.

I look forward to talking to all of you at No Frills 2015 and answering your questions. In the meantime, please look through this bid that shows my experience and my goals.

MOWII Love,Geoffrey Koester

Strengths

- I’m highly skilled at administrative tasks.- I’m incredibly organized and map out every possible part of my life to stay focused and on time.- I’m committed. When I say I’ll do something, I’ll do it.- Proficient knowledge of parliamentary procedure and boardroom.

Areas for Improvement

- Asking for help, particularly it might be easier to do something on my own. Delegating is definitely something I try to do more of.- Work/Life balance and knowing when to take a break. I’ve focused a lot on self care this past year.- Working without a deadline. I work best when I have a completion date. I am working on this by setting my own dates.

Positional GoalsTransparency is key!In everything I do for the region, NACURH, or anything else related to my position, I will be as transparent as possible with the CCs, chapters, etc. so you are aware of what is being discussed and considered.

24 Hour Email Response TimeIn a virtual organization and serving on the RBD, it is important to be quick and efficient with communication.

Keep records of what I’m doing for transition purposesAs NRHH continues to undergo some vision changes, it will be important to keep track of those changes and how the AD-NRHH position changes for future holders of this position to follow.

Chair or Vice-Chair a NACURH CommitteeWith my recent experience serving on regional and NACURH committees, I am interested in serving as a chair or vice-chair on a NACURH committee. I believe it is important for the RBD members to represent our entire region on the NACURH level. Committee Preference: Services & Resources.

Be a resource for bid submissionsTo promote the value of recognition, I would like to see an increased number of bids submitted for NRHH awards as well as GLACURH bids. I have a lot of experience with bid writing for awards, positions, and conferences and will assist schools in any way I can to help with the bid process.

Hold office hours each weekEven though GLACURH is a virtual organization, office hours can still be a thing we do. I will hold at least 4 office hours each week to be available on Skype, by phone, by email, by tweet, or however else you wish to contact me.

Fulfill duties given in the governing documentsOf course, I will go above and beyond to fulfill and exceed the duties assigned and expected of me.

Be available to help chapters and chapter reps throughout the semesterDuring the affiliation process and throughout the rest of the year, I will be actively reaching out to chapters and making myself available to help each of you. I will use the following schedule to contact each chapters’ representatives monthly by subregion.- 1st-2nd of the month: Michigan- 3rd-4th of the month: Ontario- 6th-7th of the month: Wisconsin- 9th-11th of the month: Illinois- 13th-15th of the month: Indiana

This timeline is strategically made to balance with the OTM submission/voting deadlines.

This time table is mostly for my benefit to stay organized and on track. It may be modified if I find a better system, but the goal will not change.

Re-evalutate the OTM Committee and possibly the way of voting on OTMsAfter speaking with the current AD-NRHH, I learned that the current methods of handling the OTM committee may not be the best. I plan to update the OTM guides, create an OTM judging rubric, recognize the outstanding members on the OTM selection committee, and promote regional equality and diversity when selecting OTMs.

Add more of an NRHH focus at the regional conferenceI would like to see NRHH have more of a focus and presence at the regional conference, with perhaps a NRHH-specific programming track and allowing NRHH chapters to submit their own banner or display, separate from their RHA. I will continue to research ways to better incorporate NRHH into the organization, the regional conference, boardroom, and other areas.

Work to further incorporate the NRHH values of Recognition and ServiceService: - Incorporate the new GLACURH philanthropy into regional service projects and encourage campus participation with it.- Find new ways to engage in philanthropy events at the regional conference that will encourage more delegations to participate

Recognition:- Develop and promote recognition days/weeks and random acts of kindness days throughout the year across the region- Promote winning OTMs across the GLACURH social media, website and email lists.

Help schools create NRHH chaptersFor schools that do not currently have a NRHH chapter, I still want to serve you in this position. I will reach out to those schools without a chapter early in my term and work with each of them to develop a NRHH chapter if they’re interested. The goal would be to have those interested schools set up with a new chapter by the end of my term.

Promote regional/NACURH resources- Promote the use of resources such as the OTM database and RFI- Revise regional guides, specifically those related to NRHH, to fit current practices and the new values structure

Continue the NACURH “Diamond Duos” Initiative & Expand ItI would like to get the Diamond Duos started earlier in the Fall semester this next year. I would also like to add this on a regional level to pair up chapters in the region.

- Valerie Taylor, RHA Vice President 2014-2015Indiana State University

“Geoffrey is one of the most hardworking and motivated leaders that I have had the privilege of meeting. Geoffrey has a passion for housing that is demonstrated in the way he works with others, exchanges ideas, and carries himself. Geoffrey’s passion for IRHO, GLACURH, and NACURH is evident in everything he does.”

- Susan Moody, IRHO Assistant Director of IRHH 2014-2015 | Purdue University Calumet

“Geoffrey is one of the strongest leaders I’ve met during my time here at Indiana State. Leadership comes naturally to him. He is always approachable and task oriented.”

- Kris Coleman, RHA NCC 2014-2015Indiana State University

“Geoffrey is honestly one of the most organized people I know. He’s efficient and dedicated. Any task or duty he receives is guaranteed to be done on time, well, and to Geoffrey’s absolute best abilities.”

- Marie Prevost, IRHO Assistant Director of Communication | Ball State University

“I have had the distinct honoring of working with Geoffrey over the last three years and there is no one who has a greater heart and passion for RHA and residential life. During the 2013-2014 Academic Year, Geoffrey served as the CC while I served as the NRHH-CC. In this role, I was amazed at the support he provided to me as the NRHH-CC in understanding my role as I had not received any training or preparation for the position. Under Geoffrey’s leadership, NRHH has become more engaged with RHA and become respected and valued. During this current academic year, I have seen Geoffrey grow through serving as the Director of the Indiana Residence Hall Organization and developing the newly formed Indiana Residence Hall Honorary. All while serving as the President of RHA at ISU where he has brought about positive change and truly developed strong student leaders. I am truly amazed at Geoffrey’s dedication to RHA, IRHO, GLACURH, and NACURH; in addition to his academic pursuits maintaining a 3.78 GPA. It is with great joy and excitement that I wholeheartedly support his bid for AD-NRHH!”

Tech Support

Dear GLACURH NRHH-CC’s,

It is with great pleasure that I present this letter of support for Geoffrey Koester’s bid forAssociate Director for NRHH for the Great Lakes Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls! Geoffrey is currently serving as the president of RHA and is doing a phenomenal job! He was inducted into the Larry Miltenberger Chapter of the National Residence Hall Honorary during the spring semester of his freshman year.

Over the past year, Geoffrey has been a huge help to the Indiana State NRHH and to myself as the Vice President of the chapter. With his past experience as a Communications Coordinator, he took the role of NRHH-CC at GLACURH 2014 due to myself being on conference staff and unable to fulfill my position in boardroom. He has also helped with our nomination and induction process. Geoffrey has nominated numerous individuals who are the top leaders in the residence halls on campus.

Geoffrey has written numerous OTM’s over the past two semesters in order to recognize those individuals who are working hard in our campus residence halls. He embodies the values of the organization, recognition and service. He is one member of our chapter that I know I can always count on to help NRHH excel on campus. He helped organize our Touchdown for Leadership conference that was this past January. Without Geoffrey’s help, the conference would not have ran as smoothly.

The Larry Miltenberger Chapter of NRHH fully supports Geoffrey in his bid for GLACURH AD- NRHH. He is a strong team player and communicator. If you have any questions about Geoffrey’s qualifications, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for your consideration.

Dear GLACURH Board of Directors and CCs:

It is my pleasure to write this letter of recommendation on behalf of Geoffrey Koester, who is bidding for the GLACURH AD – NRHH position. I am currently the advisor for the Indiana Residence Hall Organization (IRHO), of which Geoffrey is the director. I have known Geoffrey since he was a CC in both IRHO and GLACURH. Having witnessed his progress as a leader in both organizations and working with him this year as his advisor, I am excited to support him in his bid to join the GLACURH Board of Directors.

Geoffrey is an excellent candidate for the GLACURH AD–NRHH position. Geoffrey is skilled in many areas, most notably in his follow-through and dedication. Geoffrey’s administrative skills are extremely well developed and he uses his strength in this area to lead the IRHO directorship in process and procedure improvement, legislation writing, and boardroom preparation. Geoffrey is constantly one step ahead of where he needs to be, always having prepared agendas and timelines. He has demonstrated his ability to work autonomously and has a high capability for responsibility.

It is not an easy task to be the director of an organization. Geoffrey has done a fantastic job leading the organization and making sure to keep IRHO moving forward. Geoffrey has also balanced his role as a director with his skills as a team player. He never assumes things need to be done a certain way, is thoughtful with the questions he asks and does not assume that he knows the answer. He always looks for consensus in the group and will look at all options presented before moving the group to a decision. While Geoffrey is very capable in administrative aspects, I can’t forget to mention that he is also a very personable individual and a fantastic member of our team. He is kind and caring, and that shows in his work and the way he interacts with others.

I would highly recommend Geoffrey for this position. He has been wonderful to work with and I am happy to endorse him. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Sarah GremerIndiana Residence Hall Organization Advisor

Dear GLACURH,

I am writing on behalf of Geoffrey Koester as he bids to be GLACURH’s next Associate Director for NRHH. I have had the privilege to advise Geoffrey over the past two years. Over this time I have seen him grow into the strong leader you will find in this bid. Geoffrey’s dedication to RHA, NRHH, GLACURH, NACURH, and student development is outstanding. After reviewing his bid and talking to him about how he can help develop NRHH within both GLACURH and NACURH, I have no problem supporting Geoffrey through his journey to become GLACURH’s next AD for NRHH

Geoffrey has created clear goals to better NRHH within NACURH, GLACURH, and at each member school. Geoffrey has talked to current members of the GLACURH RBD as well as past officers. Geoffrey’s understanding of GLACURH is very in-depth and I strongly believe he will be a strong asset for next year’s regional board.

When it comes to passion for NRHH, few people can “out diamond” Geoffrey. Geoffrey has been an active member in ISU’s chapter for two years now. He holds the values of recognition and service close to his day-to-day life. As a leader he recognizes those around him for their outstanding service to other people and organizations.

Finally, I would like to speak on Geoffrey’s preparedness. Geoffrey has worked with a virtual organization before. As IRHO director, Geoffrey has learned the strengths and weaknesses of virtual organizations and this has helped prepare him to work with his fellow RBD and NNB members.

GLACURH, I support Geoffrey because I believe he will do great things for GLACURH and NACURH. Geoffrey understands the time commitments and struggles RBD and NNB members face. I have personally seen Geoffrey develop into a great leader and I cannot wait to see him impress you!

Peace, Love, Polar Bears,

Scott Cooke
