Austin CyberKnife was the first in the central Texas region to offer CyberKnife® treatment, giving our physicians the most experience treating patients with this technology in the area. The CyberKnife program at University Medical Center Brackenridge launched in 2005 and focused primarily on the treatment of brain tumors. n In 2011, the center upgraded to the latest CyberKnife technology under a partnership between the Seton Healthcare Family, a group of local physicians and US Radiosurgery.
n Seton Healthcare Family is a National Cancer Institute Community Cancer Centers Program (NCCCP) site. NCCCP is designed to create a community-based cancer center network to support cancer research and enhance access to and increase quality of care at community hospitals.

+Brain Tumors: A Multidisciplinary Approach
n Austin CyberKnife has treated 450 patients with brain tumors since opening, accounting for 65% of all patients, a number that is expected to increase from the center’s collaboration with local neurosurgical groups.
n Austin CyberKnife’s collaborative partnerships now include all neurosurgical groups throughout Austin as part of the center’s ongoing effort to provide multispecialty care to patients affected by brain tumors.
n CyberKnife typically treats brain tumors in a single outpatient session, but treatment could take up to five sessions depending on the individual diagnosis. In contrast, conventional radiation therapy for brain tumors may require consecutive treatments five days per week for up to six weeks.
