About Growth Groups at Cedar Ridge

We know we need to spend time alone with God in prayer; we know we need to spend time alone reading the Bible. But it is not enough for us to be alone. We were formed to live a life together, helping one another to become all that God intends for us. At Cedar Ridge, one of the best ways we do life together is in Growth Groups.

In Growth Groups, we can grow deeper in relationships with one another and mature our relationships with God. Not only do these groups provide a comfortable setting to get to know people better and study the

principles of God, but they also provide a fantastic opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others.

G r o w t h G r o u p s a r e a gathering of 6-12 people who experience life together for a while as they learn about God and His will for our lives. We meet in different places and at different times. We participate in a study for 12 weeks at a time, and we hold three sessions each year. Each new session brings new groups, new possibilities, new relationships.

The Bible is the best road map for life, and by digging deeper into the Bible, Growth Groups help us together move closer to God through His word.

The men's groups have discussed ways to build spiritual foundation among the guys here at Cedar Ridge and in our community. A study called Fast Track will help us understand Biblical perspective and build foundation for our faith... so spread the word and come join us.

Fast Track introduces the entire Bible through an 8-session discipleship experience using sight, sound, and action. The group will cover Genesis to Revelation in a comprehensive yet simple presentation of the biblical narrative. It's a fun and easy-to-follow study that is a great way to learn how the whole Bible points to Jesus.

Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Growth Groups at Cedar Ridge Christian Church

Can I join a group at the campus I don’t attend on Sundays?

Absolutely! We want to be a church of community, so whether the group that fits you is in Lenexa or Lee’s Summit, we welcome you!

Is there a cost to participate in groups?

Many groups require a book or a resource that costs $10-15 on average; couples often share a book. We will NEVER let cost prohibit you from participating. Sign up for any group you choose, and we will make it affordable for you.

How much does Financial Peace University cost?

There is only one group that has a significant cost to participate; it is $100 for lifetime membership in FPU. Most families save $2,700 in t h e f i r s t 1 2 w e e k s o f participating. Again, we will NOT let cost prohibit you from participation. We have special resources to help you pay the $100 fee.

Is childcare available for my group?

Some groups offer on-site childcare and others do not. Please see group description for details.

Is there a cost for on-site childcare?

In most situations, yes. Usually this cost is $3 per child per gathering. If you cannot afford it, talk to your group leader, and we will make it work for you.

I’d like to join a group that doesn’t offer childcare, but I have young children.

Some groups do not offer childcare but will often end up with parents of young children. We have many suggestions to help you with childcare. Sign up for the group, and contact us for help finding care for your kids.

What if I want to become a group leader?

If you are interested in being a group leader for the next session, contact Russel Rader. He can help you find the right study topic, co-l e a d e rs , o r j u s t a n sw e r questions. [email protected] or 913-888-CRCC (2722)

Pastor Kyle Idleman doesn’t just want to be a fan of Jesus, he wants to full heartedly commit to him and be a follower of Jesus. But how can you make the leap from fan to follower? In Not a Fan, Idleman uses biblical examples to show how the people who met Jesus also had to decide if they were fans or followers, and what it meant for them to then become followers. What a follower of Jesus does, Idleman observes, is die to themselves each and every moment of the day because “you can’t say yes to following Jesus unless you say no to living for yourself.” In this three part book Idleman helps you to discover whether you are a fan or a follower, how to recognize the invitation Jesus has given, and what following Jesus looks like in your daily life.

Like his original hearers many people today find Jesus' sayings hard. Some sayings are hard because they are difficult to understand, others because the demands they make on us are only too clear. F. F. Bruce examines seventy of the hard sayings of Jesus to clear away the cul tural and histor ical difficulties which keep us from grappling with the real challenge of Jesus' message. Evident in each chapter is Bruce's keen evangelical scholarship and pastoral insight.

Christians are still subject to Satan's attacks. He is determined to disrupt the lives of believers, destroy their ministry, and steal their joy. Sadly, those who have "fallen" may not recognize the devil's schemes until they have already been caught in a snare of defeat. When Godly People Do Ungodly Things by Beth Moore is a six-week Bible study written in three parts. The first part is a warning to believers, while the second shows women how to prepare for attacks by the Enemy. The third part is for those who have been snared by seduction, and points the way back to God.

Until Jesus comes back, we will keep on walking through “lands of affliction.” But the beauty of our God is that He can miraculously, graciously make us fruitful in the midst of our difficult journeys. In this 6-week study, we will glean truths from the life of Joseph. We will move through the pages of Genesis looking for shadows of the coming Christ. And we will be inspired to walk by faith even when we can’t understand what our Almighty God is doing.

Lysa TerKeurst knows what it’s like to consider God just another thing on her to-do list. For years she went through the motions of a Christian life: Go to church. Pray. Be nice. She longed for a deeper connection between what she knew in her head and her everyday reality, and she wanted to personally experience God’s presence. Drawing from her own remarkable story of step-by-step faith, Lysa invites you to uncover the spiritually exciting life for which we all yearn. The adventure God has in store for your life just might blow you away.

Using our love of sports to find Scriptural truths and applications

We will illustrate a point with studies of real life sports stories, then transition into life application questions. We will also have some fun sessions, including trivia contests and road trips to games as we build camaraderie — we invite believers and non-believers alike to join the huddle! Finally, we’ll have well-known speakers in the sports world, who place their faith in Jesus, talk about how their faith drives them and how their jobs fit in.

The Truth Project is a DVD-based small group curriculum comprised of 13 one-hour lessons taught by Dr. Del Tackett. This home study is the starting point for looking at life from a biblical perspective. Each lesson discusses in great detail the relevance and importance of living the Christian worldview in daily life. We believe this one project represents the possibility for exponential change within the body of Christ; millions been transformed by this curriculum. As it has been throughout history, God continues to call ordinary people to make an eternal difference in our world.

Even if you go to church, it doesn't mean that you are being exposed (or exposing others) to the gospel explicitly. Sure, most people talk about Jesus, and about being good and avoiding bad, but the gospel message simply isn't there - at least not in a way that is specific and comprehensive. Inspired by the needs of both the over- and the un-churched, and bolstered by the common neglect of an explicit gospel within Christianity, popular pastor Matt Chandler has written The Explicit Gospel, a punchy treatise to remind us what is of first and utmost importance - the gospel. In doing so he makes a clarion call to true Christianity, to know the gospel explicitly, to teach it uncompromisingly, and to unite the church on the amazing grounds of the good news of Jesus!

Do you struggle with your personal Bible study—disconnected, disengaged, flat, boring, don’t know where to start? Me too! That is why I am crazy excited about a new way I learned to study the Bible. Mind mapping itself is not new. It's a tool that has been used for a long time in education as well as in the corporate world to create, present and organize information. When used in Bible study, it is an effective and fun way to engage with Scripture and with God that will hold your attention and bring clarity and focus to your personal study time. Scripture Mapping is creative, colorful and RELAXING. Please bring a Sketchbook, set of gel pens or colored Sharpies, and Bible.

Why wonder or worry about the future? God has given you a sneak preview. With all that's transpiring in the world, people can't help but wonder what the future holds. God has already provided answers to these questions in the book of Daniel, which sets forth His blueprints for the future. In fact, when you understand the prophecies Daniel reveals, every other prophecy in the Bible will fit somewhere in the plan. "If you want to understand the future, if you want to know what will happen in the "end of days," you need to begin with the prophecies of the Book of Daniel.
