    Objectives of study :

The present study using R.S & GIS technology

to clearly identify the water bodies, depletion

of water levels in catchment area.

To perform if then analysis and to find theamount of volume changes in the inflow.

To suggest some measures to improve the

water levels in reservoir area.To assess the effect of variation in the

discharge to the d/s of the reservoir.

    Geographical location.

Mudasarlova is a large water tank located at a

distance of 5 km from (vsp).

Mudasarlova Cheruvu which is fed by the

springs originating from Kambalakonda andKailasa Hill Ranges.

Area under study covers 17.38 sq.kms lies

    between1745N to 17 4730N latitudes and83 15E to 83 20E longitudes falling in survey

of India toposheet numbers 65 0/1 and 0/2 on

    1:25,000 scale.

    Identifying the problem:

Major drains of the reservoir were disturbed, because of the extensive road network.

Location of the habitations surrounding the

    reservoir

Drastic changes in the topography, rainfall

    fluctuations.

The present yield from this source is 0.4 MGD, but

required demand of water is 300 MLD.

    Silting of the reservoir.

    Data used:

    1) Geographical location of reservoir(toposheet ).2) Total no of reservoirs.

    3) Total water demand of Visakhapatnam city.

    a. Inflow-outflow.

    b. Quantity of water supplied to treatment plant.4)Population &water demand for domestic

    &industrial purpose(2008-2038).

    5) Rainfall details.

    6) Water levels of the reservoir, catchment area.

    7) SRTM (shuttle remote techno-Machine) data.

    8) Climate data, population growth

    Proposed Methodology

    1) Base map preparation(Geo referencing).

    1) Digitization.

    1) Digital elevation model.

    Methodology

    1) Base map preparation(Geo referencing).projection system(lat/long,UTM WGS84)

    ground control points(GCP)

    2) Digitization.

Thematic maps of the study area such as road network, drainage network, contour map, watershed boundary were

    prepared using open jump.

    2) Digital elevation model.(SRTM data wasdownloaded and projection system was converted)

    3) Three dimensional view.

    conclusions :

The water bodies have been decreased to due toMudasarlova Reservoir according to the satellite data. This

surface data has been proven to be very informative and

useful for surface study, especially in detecting surface

features and characteristics such as lineaments and land use.

Mudasarlova Reservoir was constructed for making water

supply to Visakhapatnam Municipality. At present 0.4 million

gallons per day water is being drawn from the reservoir to

    Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation.

Forest area was reduced and area of the scrubs wasincreased.
