The Sebaceous Gland

• The sebaceous gland or oil glands secrete a natural oil called sebum. This oil keeps the skin and hair soft and helps keep the skin waterproof.

• The secretion of sebum also helps stop the loss of moisture from within the body.

THE SUDORIFEROUS GLAND

• The function of the sudoriferous gland is to excrete sweat, which is a colourless watery fluid composed of 98% water, 1% salts and 1% acids and waste products, from the body onto the surface of the skin.

• Health, heat, temperature and activity can alter the makeup of sweat produced by the body.
