PowysGlansevern Hall is approached down a long tree-lined avenue of mature sweet chestnuts and sits beautifully within its own land. The local village of Berriew (1 mile) and the local towns of Welshpool, Shrewsbury, Ludlow and Chester cater for all of one’s day to day and more extensive shopping needs. The nearby A5 connects Shrewsbury to the M54 which in turn leads to the M5, M6 and wider Motorway network. The nearest airports are Liverpool, Manchester and Birmingham. Welshpool private airfield is just 5 miles from the house. There is a good rail service with regular trains from Welshpool to Birmingham taking approximately 1 hour 40 minutes and from Birmingham regular fast trains to London Euston take approximately 1 hour 10 minutes.

The River Rhiw runs through the grounds and into the River Severn and forms the eastern boundary of the estate and offers accessible private fishing.

Glansevern HallUnderstood to be unique as a private residence, wholly conceived and erected by renowned architect Joseph Bromfield, Glansevern Hall is a fine example of early neo-classical design, built between 1801 and 1807 for the Owen family. The main south façade is finished in Cefn stone and is five bays. The central three bays are highlighted by four giant Ionic pilasters and a central porch.

Inside the house, the three principal reception rooms include the sitting room, drawing room and dining room/library all have a range of fittings from the original build including panelling, fireplaces, screens, floorboards and a fireplace over-mantel that were removed from other properties owned by the Owen family. All the reception rooms can be accessed from the central hall and all rooms have a connecting door to their adjoining room.

Upstairs the bedroom accommodation is made up of four principal bedrooms, the fifth on a second floor. The main suite includes a bedroom, dressing room and bathroom. There are two further bedrooms and a laundry room on the first floor. To the rear of the house and connecting at the first floor level is a one bedroom flat on one side and a two bedroom guest wing with kitchen, sitting room and bathroom on the other.

The CottagesThe Garden House Cottage – The garden House is a two bedroom cottage located in the rear courtyard. The property is spacious with good proportions and would be ideal for family members or guest accommodation.

The Coach House Flat – this 2 bedroom flat is located in the rear courtyard on the first floor above the old Coach House.

The Hayloft – this comfortable 2 bedroom flat is located at the end of the larger secondary courtyard and is let on an Assured Shorthold Tenancy.

OutbuildingsThere are extensive outbuildings around a large courtyard that are divided into individual letting units with secure long standing tenants including an award-winning café and shop that benefit from the open garden scheme. The outbuildings provide a consistent income and are accessed off a secondary drive that spurs off the main drive and about half way along. Details of the rental income can be obtained from the vendors agent.

Gardens and groundsThe Gardens are understood to have been designed in 1805 and have undergone a full scale renovation over the last 30 years and are now a high quality RHS Partner Garden. The original walled kitchen garden remains, whilst a number of newer trees have been interspersed with an array of more mature specimen trees. There is a large rock garden with its Grotto, which was a slightly later addition along with the construction of the lake whose feeder stream runs through a larger water garden. A fine orangery faces south from the walled garden. The current owners must take a huge amount of credit for the many impressive borders that exist today. The gardens are regularly open to the public and attract on average 6,000 people per annum. This open garden arrangement can be terminated at any time, there is no obligation to continue to open the gardens to the public.
