The “Career” Ready Student
Vision of the School: Preparing students for higher education - college and career readiness.
To students, especially those just starting out, high school graduation may seem a long way off. But we know that those four years of
high school fly by and before they know it, students are making important decisions about what they will do after graduation.
We encourage parents to begin planning for what their student will do after graduation as soon as possible. Sit down often with your
student now and talk about some of the college preparation or career preparation programs that they can begin taking advantage of now.
Here are some of the career-focused programs Moon Valley offers that can help students explore possible career interests. They may
even start training before high school graduation:
Architecture
Business and Marketing
C.O.O.P. Pre-School
Culinary Arts
Drafting
Fire Science
We also offer access to off-campus programs that students can combine with their core classes at Moon Valley:
Auto Collision
Auto Technology
Aviation Technology
Cosmetology
Some other non-traditional careers can be explored through programs here on campus such as: theater, dance, music, which includes band
and choir, foreign languages and visual arts, which includes art and 3-D design.
While you and your student explore some of these opportunities, keep in mind the basic core classes they will need for career preparation:
4 years of math
3 years of science
4 years of English
3 years of social studies
Our Moon Valley counselors are ready to help you work with your student to ensure they are prepared. For instance, they assist in creat-
ing 4-year-plans towards higher education goals and then follow up with regular meetings with each student and their parents on progress.
We look forward to a partnership with parents and students which will build a strong foundation for higher education and career success.
This holiday season Moon
Valley’s Vocal Ensemble is
honored to perform at Glendale
Glitters on December 14,
between 8 pm and 10 pm.

Key Club Heard Around the World
This year the Key Club is working with UNICEF on
Eliminate Project. The mission of this endeavor is to
bring Tetanus vaccines to developing nations in an
effort to eliminate maternal and neo-natal tetanus,
a disease which causes great suffering in new
mothers and babies.
The Key Club will conduct a penny war contest
asking fellow students, parents, and faculty to give
up those copper coins for a good cause.
Badminton Rally to Victory
Congratulations to the Girls Badminton Team and Coach Denise Silcox for an outstanding season. These athletes finished the fall season
by defeating Thunderbird High School crowning the team with an undefeated season.
These ladies are to be commended for their hard work and achievements.

in the state competition this year. After placing third in region-
als, the team went on to state,. This has not been accomplished since 1996. “These guys worked hard all summer long before the
season started to be able to be in this position and it paid off! Very cool!” Coach Scott Short said.

Annual Fall College Fair
On November 9, our Career Center hosted
another successful lunch time College Fair. There was a combination of over 30 universities,
colleges and trade schools that attended. There is a strong emphasis on the campus to ensure
that students understand the connection with the classes they are taking today and their
future goals. Thanks to Beverly Ducey, Career Center Specialist, for creating this opportunity
for our students.
Congratulations to Mrs. Denise Silcox, Physical Ed teacher, for winning “MVP in
the Classroom” sponsored by University of
Phoenix and the Arizona Cardinals.
The Moon Valley NJROTC Academic Team defended their #1 national standing against 11 contender schools at
the first annual Mindsoon Academic Competition. Through each of seven rounds of SAT/ACT matches, the Rockets
demolished the competition. As was the case at the National
Championships in Washington DC in June. Troy High School from Fullerton, CA and Moon Valley faced off for the
championship. They were joined by a very strong third contender, Apache Junction, AZ. In the end the Moon
Valley Cadets were victorious. Their next competition will
be round one of the College Options Foundation National Competition. Good Luck Cadets.
