Hazwoper 40-Hour Training is required for anyone working at treatment, storage and disposal facilities (TSDs) and at hazardous waste clean-up sites. The training is also required for those who respond to emergencies involving hazardous materials. Participants will be certified for employment in the previously mentioned areas. This Hazwoper training will include an overview of federal regulations, toxicology, hazard communication, site management, air monitoring, site characterization, operating procedures, safety, spill clean-up and more. The class will also write and review health and safety plans, emergency response plans and incident command procedures. The lecture portion of the course will be facilitated online. Specific instructions will be sent upon registration. All online work must be completed before the on-site component. The on-site suit-up and certification will take place on March 21-22, 2018, and will meet from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Edwards Hall, Room 11, at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. Participants will be expected to suit up in protective equipment, including a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and level-A full-containment suit. Students should be in good physical health since wearing protective equipment places physical demands on the body. About the 8-Hour Refresher Course The one-day 8-Hour Refresher Course will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2018, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Edwards Hall, Room 11, at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. The course is designed for any individual who has previously completed the 40-Hour or 24-Hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Training, including faculty and students working with hazardous substances in the laboratory and on-field sites, as well as first responders or industry hazardous-materials handlers. The course will include OSHA safety elements. The planned course will requalify participants to enter hazardous waste sites in the field and to work appropriately with hazardous materials in the laboratory. A certificate of completion is awarded.

Registration fees, less a $25 processing fee, will be refunded if notice is received in the conference registration office at least one week before the course starts. Registered participants who do not cancel their registration in writing by the registration deadline are responsible for the total registration fee even if they do not attend the conference and have not paid the registration fee.

Kansas State University may cancel or postpone this program because of insufficient enrollment or other unforeseen circumstances.
