Infrared LED, also known as infrared transmitter, is a special type of invisible LED, which emits infrared rays in

the wavelength range of 760nm. It is a light emitting diode (LED) used to transmit infrared signals.

Voltage required for infrared LED is around 1.4v and current is less than 20mA. Infrared LED are made of gallium

arsenide or aluminum gallium arsenide. Infrared LED sends out light with longer wavelengths than visible light,

similar to the light in remote controls.

When infrared LED is combined with infrared receivers, the combination is known as infrared sensors. Infrared

sensors have a wide range of applications. Infrared (IR) technology addresses a broad variety of wireless

applications, especially in surveillance, automotive, biometrics, lighting, sensing, cameras, remote controls, etc.

These LEDs have been used widely in various remote controls, wireless mouse, telecommunication modules, etc.

With technological advancements, infrared LEDs are being extensively used in other applications including

smartphones, automotive, etc. Infrared LED are the key components used in CCTV cameras.

Infrared LEDs consume less power as compared to traditional LEDs, due to which they are ideal for use in

laptops, mobile phones, tablets and other personal digital assistance devices.
