GlycogenMolecule
What elements make up it?
• Made up of:– Carbon– Oxygen– Hydrogen
Is Glycogen made up of subunits?
• Glycogen subunits:
– Glucose monomers
What functional groups does Glycogen contain?
• Hydroxyl• Carbonyl
What type of organic compound does Glycogen belong to?
• Glycogen is a Carbohydrate. • Family members are:– Glucose– Sucrose – Fructose– etc
What are the general functions of all compounds in the family?
• Function of Carbohydrates:– the storage of energy– building blocks for the structure of
many cell organelles.
Functions of Glycogen
• Storage form of glucose in animal• Glycogen created to store chemical energy in
animals– Short Term
• Maintain blood glucose levels
Why am I a good parent?
• I have muscle tissues and a liver • I work a lot so I need the energy provided by
glycogen. • I eat a lot of food with glucose so glycogen
makes a perfect storage for the glucoses.
