Copper clock by PatrickPalcic uses perfume to telltime

Perfume leaks at hourly intervalsonto the copper face of this clockby German designer PatrickPalcic, which was presented at thisyear's IMM Cologne.

Palcic created the clock, named EsLiegt was in Der Luft – or There IsSomething in the Air – to offer analternative way to tell the time.

"The olfactory clock allows theuser to experience the passage oftime in a different way," Palcic toldDezeen. "Instead of the time beingread, as with other timepieces, ithangs in the air and is inhaled."

Instead of hands, 12 small holesare punctured around theperimeter. Each hour is assigned adifferent fragrance, which is in themechanism behind the clock face.

The copper dish turns slowly, sothat its perforations hit 12 o'clockat hourly intervals, triggering adrop of essence to be released.
