• Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down• Building with Cups• Find the Crowns

MAKE IT TRUE (LARGE GROUP)• Worship• Introductory Sketch• Bible Story

MAKE IT STICKThese activities are designed to help preschoolers understand and remember today’s Bible story and Bottom Line. Or, offer two activities at once and allow half the kids to participate in each, then switch groups and repeat the activities.

• Maracas• Josiah Does the Right Thing• If I Were King• Bowling for Statues• Thumbs Up

MAKE IT REALMake It Real is designed to help preschoolers understand how the Bottom Line applies to them. They’ll discuss real-life experiences and share prayer requests. Divide kids into small groups of about five to eight children with each leader. Ideally, assign the same small group leader to the same group of preschoolers for the entire year.

• Small Group Time• Prayer

BOWLING FOR STATUES “Bowling for Statues” is an activity that uses gross motor skills to review today’s Bible story.

WHAT YOU NEED: Floor tape and a plastic bowling set

WHAT YOU SAY: Before the Activity: “Raise your hand if you’ve ever been bowling! (Pause.) Awesome. We’re going to do some bowling today!”

During the Activity: “Do you see these pins? (Point.) We’re going to pretend that these bowling pins are the bad statues that King Josiah ordered to be destroyed. I want you to roll the ball and knock those bad statues down. Let’s line up here behind the tape (point) and take turns!”

After the Activity: “Wow! We have some awesome bowlers in our class. Great job destroying those statues, friends. I’m so glad that King Josiah chose to do the right thing! Kids ROCK, and YOU rock, because you can do the right thing just like Josiah. Who can do what God wants you to do? I can do what God wants me to do.”

THUMBS UP “Thumbs Up” is an activity that creates a visual that the children can take home to remind them of the Bottom Line.

WHAT YOU NEED: “Thumb” Activity Page, Avery® #5160 labels or equivalent, construction paper, pencil, scissors, and crayons (Note: Be sure to choose construction paper in colors that mimic the different skin colors of the children in your class.)

WHAT YOU DO: Before the Activity: Copy the Activity Page onto the labels. Set aside. Trace a hand onto the construction paper. You can trace your own hand before the activity or you may choose to trace each child’s hand during the activity. If possible, be sure to match the child’s skin color with a similar color of construction paper. Cut out the hand. Place the hand on a hard surface with the palm side up and the thumb in the air, on top/pointing up. Bend the four fingers at the middle knuckle inward. The hand should look like a “thumbs up.”

During the Activity: Give each child a hand. Encourage the children to decorate their hand with the crayons. Encourage the children to add fingernails if they wish.

After the Activity: Help the child add the label to the palm of the hand.

WHAT YOU SAY: Before the Activity: “We can do what God wants us to do! Everyone give me a THUMBS UP! (Demonstrate.) Awesome!”

During the Activity: “We are going to make a thumbs up for you to take home, so you can remember to do what God wants you to do! (Give each child a hand.) Use the crayons to decorate your hand. You can add fingernails and decorate it any way you would like. (Do activity.) Great job! Now we can put our label on our hand. (Finish activity.) Perfect!”

After the Activity: “We can do what God wants us to do! He wants us to do what’s right, just like Josiah did in our story today. Now give me another THUMBS UP! (Demonstrate.) Yay, great job! Who can do what God wants you to do? I can do what God wants me to do!”

SMALL GROUP TIMEWHAT YOU NEED: Paperclip “Memory Verse Card” (from the Week One Activity Pages on the Website) in your Bible at Ephesians 2:10. Provide a journal and a fun-shaped pen for each small group. You will also need a hand stamp/stickers, “Young Josiah” cutout from the Activity Page, white paper, scissors, and a glue stick.

WHAT YOU DO: Make enough copies of “Young Josiah” on white paper so when cut apart each small group journal has one picture. (Option: Pre-cut and glue the pictures in each journal on the page where you will be writing the children’s prayer requests.)

SMALL GROUP LEADER (SGL): “I need my rockin’ small group to come sit with me! It’s small group time!

Our story today was about Josiah! Josiah rocked because He did what God wanted Him to do. All of these kids rocked because they did what God wanted them to do. CHILDREN AND SGL: “I can do what God wants me to do!”

“Everything God tells us to do in the Bible is the right thing. Let’s make a list of things God tells us to do in our journal and then when we pray we can ask God to help us do them. One, two, three, come sit with me!

(Open the prayer journal to the page with the “Young Josiah” or prepare to glue it on the page where you will be writing with your fun pen.)

(Point to picture of Josiah.) “Let’s make our list of right things to do under this picture of Josiah since he did the right thing. When I say your name, tell me one thing God tells us to do and I’ll write it in our prayer journal.

(Write each child’s name and what they say beside their name. Remember to print the words they say so the children can recognize their names and the letters.)

“This is such a great list! Would anyone like to pray before I pray?”

(Give each child who wants to pray the opportunity to do so.)

“Now I will pray.”

PRAYERSGL: “Dear God, thank You for giving us the Bible so we know what’s right. I pray that (name each child) will learn to listen to what You say and then do it. Give them courage to be who You made them to be and to do what’s right. Thank you for another day with these kids who rock. We love You. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
