Going Single Stream Using BinsBlair Pollock, Solid Waste PlannerFor Carolina Recycling Association4/10/13The commingle Jingle by Ronald Smith Jr. (and the beatles)

WHAT WE PLANNEDOrange County wanted to convert to single stream beginning in2010-11 THE PLAN:Convert from two bins to 95 gallon carts for curbside,Re-label all multifamily & commercial carts for single stream,Convert roll off dumpsters at dropoff sites to single stream, But .Keep separate cardboard and bulky rigid plastics separate for better markets Then: Ship all materials commingled from dropoff pad at County landfill to MRFWHAT WE DID

Due to uncertain planning conditions: Stay with bins and go single stream but add no new materials (per contractors concern about overflows and political constraints)

We mailed every single family home a postcard

New Labels for multifamily & Commercial carts (about 3,000 carts)Include #2, 4 and 5 non-bottle plastics in carts (but dont tell anyone, just change labels)

Gave out cards to Apartment Managers to distribute for tenant education

7Modified INFO for commercial customers, copied poster size & Mailed it to them (about 300) to use for on site education (NOTE spanish)
