What can be more perfect than the holidays with family? Even with mishaps

like an overdone turkey, mismatched wrapping paper seams, crying

children during the obligatory family picture or Christmas tree fiascos.

I’ll never forget our first Christmas in Arizona. Trying to keep my childhood family

tradition alive I was determined to get a flocked tree. I called every tree lot to see if

they had “flocked trees”. I finally found one across town. Curt and I drove to the lot,

carefully picked out our tree, waited an hour (ugh!) to have it flocked, and carefully

strapped it to the top of our car and headed home. As we were driving we entered an

intersection with a big dip in the road. Next thing we knew we heard a big “thump”

and looked behind us to see a large white cloud of flocking in the middle of the road.

Yep! Our precious tree had fallen off the car and the hard landing on the pavement

had taken the majority of the flocking off the tree. I watched in devastation as Curt

dragged the tree to safety. Needless to say our tree that year wasn’t the most beautiful

tree and at the time I thought it was the end of the world. However, today we sure

laugh about this funny experience and laugh at our efforts of trying to create the

perfect holiday. I now realize that what may seem all wrong in the moment is actually

all right in the big scheme!

What’s really important is how we embrace these imperfect moments because they

are what make memories, create stories, start traditions and help us to celebrate

authentically…
