Golden Acres January, 2014
President’s Report By Ray Lamoureux
The New Year is here and it is time for Golden Acres board
elections in February. We have three openings to be elected this year.
Your letters of intent to run and your resume must be turned in to
progressive management. We have a very active board and I hope that
will continue with the new board.
The new electric gate has been installed. The gate will
automatically open at 7:00am and close at 9:00pm. If you try to walk or
drive through at the time it is opening or closing it will stop its
operation. Please, if you see it moving, let it complete its cycle.
We are still working on replacing the holly trees that we
removed last year. The city requires us to replace the trees that we had
removed. We have two board members working on this project, Joan Elder and Joe Lemon. We
are still determining where to plant these trees.
The fence project is still alive and well. We are in the process of obtaining bids for the
last section of fencing around the power station. We hope to have the fencing completed before
spring.
We have invested in a new computer for the office. The computer in the library will be
replaced with the old computer from the office. You will notice a big difference in the computer
speed in the library when we get this transferred. The computer in the library is close to ten years
old and very slow. We know for those residents that use the library computer the change will be
a great help.
The water project is still foremost in our minds to bring to a solution. We have phase two
to get started. Phase two is to check each unit for internal leaks. We will be asking for volunteers
to help with this part of the project. We will not be going into any units. We can complete all the
checks on the outside of each home. We will send out notices to everyone when this test will
start.
The board wishes everyone a safe and happy New Year.
From the Editor’s Desk By Lynne and Bob Mickle
“Let there be peace on Earth
And let it begin with me”
This seemed to be the mantra of Nelson Mandela, whose passing has been recently
mourned by heads of state and ordinary citizens the world over. Let us hope that, as this new
year begins, everyone will take a page from Mandela’s book and at least attempt to broker peace
in all the war-torn areas of the world. Even here at home, we can and should put aside our minor
differences to live in harmony. Unless you believe in reincarnation, we only pass this way once
and should make the best of it while we have the opportunity. Life is too short as it is to sweat
the small stuff.
Golden Acres January, 2014
Happy New Year to everyone. Hopefully all survived the Christmas/ Hanukka/ Kwanzaa
season without gaining too many extra pounds. Hopefully, too, that new year’s resolution you
made was a simple one that you’ll be able to keep past January! Good luck with it! My resolution
every year is to live each day as if it may be the last. That way I shouldn’t miss out on anything
life has to offer should the inevitable happen tomorrow. I guess at heart I’m a fatalist, but at least
I’m an optimistic one!
If you didn’t celebrate enough at Christmas, you have another chance this month as
Epiphany (Little Christmas or the twelfth day) falls on January 7. This is the day the Orthodox
faiths celebrate as Christmas and the day the Three Magi arrived in Bethlehem. So there’s still a
chance to get some goodies in your stocking!
M.L. King day will be celebrated on Monday, January 20 and if you missed the New
Year’s party because of illness, you can celebrate the Chinese New Year on January 31 and help
usher in the year of the Horse.
For all you northerners who may be missing the snow and the cold (?!), winter arrived
early (Dec 8) in southern Ontario with below normal temperatures (hovering around -5C or about
23F), so when the thermometer in GA drops to 40F, thank your lucky stars (and your pension
plan) that you’re not up north!
May this new year be filled with happiness and good health for everyone!
Until next time….
Newsletter Editor Needed
Lynne and I will be quitting as editors of the Golden Acres Newsletter by April. It is
important for the Newsletter to continue within the park. We will be more than happy to assist
the new editor(s) before we head back home. If you have any questions about what the position
entails, please drop by (Unit 29) or give us a call at 734-3503. We would like to take this
opportunity to thank everyone who contributed to the Newsletter over the years.
Silent Kudos - Notes from the Office By Jo Ellen Bryant Bulk Item Pickup
The city of Dunedin will pick up bulk items. You must contact the office to have this
done. They bill us. You give Golden acres a check for the amount of your items. It is $15.82 per
item. The city is very efficient in responding to our request for pickups, sometimes same-day
service. However, many of you are not responding as quickly to us with a check. If you have had
a pickup and not paid the office, can you kindly do so immediately.
As we welcome the New Year, there are several folks that need to be thanked for their
silent work in the park: They do their jobs quietly and behind the scenes:
Bob and Lynne Mickle have done a superb job assembling our Newsletter monthly. She
the proof reader, he the gatherer and inserter of articles (the layout guy). Together they have
Golden Acres January, 2014
made a wonderful team and have provided us with an excellent recap of the goings on in the park
monthly. You contributors too, need to be thanked for providing us excellent content. We thank
Norma Moore for contributing the anniversary and birthday list each month.
Robert Weatley continues to blow, brush, dig, vacuum, ride his cart to far corners of
the park to do repairs, maintenance on everything including the pool, and kindly chores. There is
NEVER a time when I have called him from the office that he does not accept the job graciously
and with expedience. When he is at Ace Hardware his 2nd home, he calls to ask if I need
anything. He knows the park like the back of his hand and enjoys his job. Why else would
someone ride all the way from New Port Richey to come to work? We thank him for a job well
done.
Donna Delf did a lovely and tireless job of helping
orchestrate the holiday decorating. It looks beautiful. Thank
you also to all the volunteers who made our park look so
tastefully festive.
Her husband SKIP puts all those tiny letters into our
Clubhouse sign board monthly advertising our events. Skip
and Donna, we thank you for your important contributions.
Not so much behind the scenes, but our Board
members have been tireless. Especially Ray Lamoureux
needs appreciation for always being there and following
through with each project. He takes the worry home with him
daily, and makes certain things are accomplished. The list is
long of what Ray’s “administration” has done, recently that of
resurfacing the pool, and doing sidewalk repairs. Steadfast
and true, a heart of gold, he has offered a wonderful
contribution to Golden Acres, his time and expertise. This
praise does not in any way lessen the contributions of our other board members, each of whom
continue to do their job of helping run the park. We thank them all! Bob Mickle, Joan Elder,
Ron Tasior, Don Webb, Judy Fitzpatrick, and Joe Lemon.
Ray Krumsieg continues to monitor and edit our master data base. In January we will be
making our final edits for our new Park Directory. Please bring your changes to the office. A
roster will be posted on the wall in the office. If you have changes they will be made to our
master list in the office.
Gordon VanBuskirk locks our clubhouse and pool in the evenings. We thank him for
doing a good job, for being very diligent, and on time. His gate job has been eliminated since we
now have an electronic gate, but all the same we appreciate his help. Thanks Gordy!
Ed. Note: We wish to express a BIG thank you to Jo Ellen for all the work she does on
behalf of everyone in the park. She is the first line of defense for any problems that crop up and
still keeps a smile on her face. This park would not work as smoothly as it does without her
dedication to the job.

Welcome New Resident
Vincent Anton Lot 41
(formerly Joyce McFarlane’s coach)
Boy are we lucky to have this enthusiastic, smiling face, and happy guy amongst us!
Vinny was a long-time friend of Paula Bunevith. (Her cousin Bernie is married to Vinny’s
sister). TMI?
It took one visit to the park for him to realize what a great place it is. He loved the well
maintained appearance, the friendly residents, and the heated pool! Teaching for over 27 years
on the Cape and living in W. Hyannis , our community of Golden Acres offered such a nice
change of climate. He is thrilled to be able to exercise daily in a heated pool.
He attended Holy Name in Worcester growing up. Having graduated from the University
of Maine in Forest management, he taught Horticulture at Cape Cod Tech in Harwich, Ma.
Hmmm…good skill to have here in the park.
There was a stint in the Coast Guard Reserve
after college with training at Cape May, NY and
Yorktown, VA. He was a MK small boat engineer.
His timing was good, as he missed both the Vietnam
and gulf wars.
Some of his other training was in tool and die,
carpentry, and plumbing. It is no wonder that he
turned his small cottage on the cape into a real “home’
near Craigsville Beach. Skiing and scuba diving were
some of his hobbies as a younger fellow. His brother
lives in the keys and offered great diving opportunities
and companionship.
He is a bit of an adventurous soul and likes to
explore and travel. Now that he is retired, he plans to
do more of this. For the last 6 years, four of those
were spent traveling to Europe and he especially likes
the Baltic countries. He hopes to bike in our area and
find all the nice things Dunedin and this west coast
have to offer. I do not think he will be disappointed
one bit! Please welcome Vinny and help him acclimate to this sunny environment. I don’t think
it will take him long. He says he is hoping to relax.
Does that actually happen in Golden Acres?
Monthly Luncheon By Cathy Eckland
On November 20th, twenty Golden Acres residents met at Country super buffet for
lunch. We had Asian and American selections. The service was good; the food is probably rated
in the top three for Asian food. Everyone had more than one helping. There is always lots of
Golden Acres January, 2014
laughter and good conversation during the meals. Country Super Buffet is located on East Bay
Blvd.
If you would like to attend a monthly luncheon just check the bulletin board in the club
house and if you would like to recommend a restaurant call Mary Ann Zura, Kathy Merriam or
Cathy Eckland.
Looking forward to seeing you at the next luncheon
A Christmas Decorating Thank you By Donna Delf
I would like to thank everyone who helped with
decorating for our Annual Christmas Park Decoration
Event. The guys did the clubhouse and the office. All of
the girls did the fencing. Great Job done!!
Visitors as well as park residents have given us
many compliments.
So, my heartfelt thanks to all of you to help the
Spirit of Christmas come into our home and park
surroundings. We look great!
Happy New Year with Love, Peace, and good
Health to All

Upcoming Events By Paula Bunevith
Christmas Potluck
On Friday Dec, 6th approximately 50 community members came up to the clubhouse for
a great evening of food, friendship and music. As usual the cooks of Golden Acres outdid
themselves with all the delicious food that was present. While we enjoyed our meal, Bob
Birchmore entertained us on the Keyboard. After Dinner, Joan Elder joined Bob and became
our lead singer. All in all, a great time was had by all. And we thank Joan Elder for helping out
with the singing.

Reminders
Tables and Chairs
Just a reminder that no chairs and ONLY the two 6 foot folding grey tables can be
borrowed from the clubhouse. A permission slip must be obtained from the office.
Container for Community Mail
Our newsletter is delivered by community members but they need a place to put the
newsletter. PLEASE attach a mailbox, basket or some other container to your coach or railing so
community mail can be delivered to your coach. We don't want them blowing all over the park.
If we don't find a container to put the newsletter in, it will not be delivered and you will have to
pick one up at the library or office. We can't drop them on your stairs.
Washing of Cars
Just a reminder that washing of cars is on TUESDAY and SATURDAY Only. This rule
has been in existence for a long time and a reminder is needed every now and then. Thank You.

Golden Acres Name Tags By Joan Leslie and Norma Miller
A lot of new owners have joined us in our wonderful park. To assist them in putting
names to faces, it is helpful if we wear our Golden Acres name tags to park events. If you do not
have a name tag, they can be ordered through Joan Leslie (Unit #23) or Norma Miller (Unit #
34). The cost is $7, paid in advance. We will be placing the order after January 1st in order to
give everyone a chance to purchase one. We do however need a minimum of 10 to get this price.
If fewer than 10 names are received, the order will not be placed.
Shuffling News By Norm Sanford
At the time of writing this report, the team has won all three of our games! Great job
team.
Fun shuffle is on Tuesday @ 1 pm. Joan Leslie is prime and ready to show you the ropes.
Shuffle Under the Lights is going great with 27 players. It is an excellent way to spend
time with your golden acres friends
WHATS NEW
We will be starting a fun shuffle league in January, 2014. Please pick a partner and a
Team Name on the sign up.
SHUFFLE BOARD FUN DAY
The day will start off by winning a prize on the courts. A roast beef dinner with all the
trimmings will follow. Then fun and games.
OUR COURTS
The courts have a new paint job !! They look great and play well also
Soldiers to Remember
Please take a moment to offer a prayer of thanks and remembrance to all those who help
to protect our way of life. Keep them in your prayers until they return safely to their loved ones.
