Training cum Exposure visit was held at NIRD, Hyderabad from 26-
30 August 2013 where altogether 24 persons -22 women and 2 men
from Tinsukia District of Assam participated in the programme. They
all were from Non-intensive blocks (as per NRLM norm) of the
district and all were involved with planning, implementation and
monitoring of SHG and its activities. As a part of the programme
one-day session in the class room was organised where Shankar
Chatterjee explained the role played by SERP in developing of SHGs
in Andhra Pradesh as well as concept of Village Organisation (VO),
Mandal Samakhya(MS), Zilla Samakhya(ZS) was thoroughly
explained as these were part of the field visit. The class room
sessions inter alia included cases of SHGs across the country
including role of SHG members for providing Minimum Price
Support (MSP) to the farmers under Andhra Pradesh Government's
programme.
The participants were taken to Warangal district of Andhra Pradesh
where two days ( 27 & 28 August 2013) were spent in interacting
with members of SHG, Village Organisation, Mandal Samakhya and
Zilla Samakhya. The participants visited Tirumalgiri village of
Atmakor Mandal, Nagaram village of Hasanparthy Mandal, etc. The
process of Micro Credit Plan (MCP) was thoroughly explained which
was totally new to the participants. Participants visited a Bulk Milk
Collection unit where small milk producers were being paid

Summit –II (IAFS). As a result, in the recent
years, it is observed that increasing
number of officials from African countries
are participating in the capacity building
programmes offered by NIRD. With a
view to providing information support to
these participants in their academic
pursuit during their stay here, NIRD has
set-up a facility “Africana” which houses
documents on different subjects and
themes relating to Africa. NIRD is also
making concerted efforts to enrich this
information resource base.
