Reading Comprehension Marcus Rashford is a professional British footballer who plays for Manchester United and the England national team. In addition to being a celebrated sportsperson, Marcus is also well known for his charity work and for speaking up against the injustices of childhood poverty. In June 2020, Marcus wrote a heartfelt letter to UK MPs asking them to reverse a decision that he believed would leave many children hungry.

Today we would like to you read one of the Marcus Rashford reading comprehensions which you will find attached at the bottom of this page. There are three versions, an easy, a middle and a hard, so choose the one that you feel most comfortable with.

Everyday White Rose Maths releases a video lesson and accompanying worksheet. The worksheets have been downloaded and attached at the bottom of this document as they are now only free to subscribing users. These resources are excellent as they are the scheme we use in school. BBC Bitesize has produced lessons and activities to compliment these. https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-5/

Wellbeing You may have times when you are feelingworried or angry. It is OK to feel like this, we just need to learn ways to help to deal with these emotions. One strategy which can help you to feel calmer is the use of a breathing wand; this is also a fun craft activity to do too! Look at the attached sheet and follow the instructions to make a Breathing wand

• Once you have made your breathing wand, move to a quiet area and put on a piece of calming music.

• Take long, slow breaths with the breathing wand in front of your face to make your ribbons dance.

• Challenge members of your household to see who can take the longest breath.

• Once the music has finished, share how they are feeling with a family member or friend.

• When you are experiencing uncomfortable emotions, you can use your breathing wand to help you to feel calmer.

Try Zios and Zepts!

On the planet Vuv there are two sorts of creatures. The Zios have 3 legs and the Zepts have 7 legs.

The great planetary explorer Nico, who first discovered the planet, saw a crowd

of Zios and Zepts. He managed to see that there was more than one of each kind of creature before they saw him.

Suddenly they all rolled over onto their backs and put their legs in the air. He

counted 52 legs. How many Zios and how many Zepts were there? Do you think

there are any different answers?

DT We’ve learned about the basics of structures. Now have a look at these two video clips demonstrating how to make a structure stronger and the work of Isambard Kingdom Brunel. Then have a go at the two activities: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zrn6pg8
