At the Sabbath day services in theShakespeare Club in Pasadena, on June4th, Mr. Armstrong, accompanied byother minis ters at the HeadquartersChurch, held a wonderful ordinat ionservice-in which SEVEN NEW MINIS-TERS OF GOD W E R E ORDAINED

This brought to a total of eight thenumber of new preaching elders to b eordained in the Church of God wi th inthe last few weeks Th e previous Sab-bath, May 28th, Mi-. H al B aird, former-ly of the Corpus Christi , Texas Church,was ordained as a preaching elder. Mr.Baird had to be ordained the Sabbathbefore some of the other men so hecould leave to assist Mr. Raymond Colein the churches at Eugene and Salem,and to be a help in th e Pacif ic No rthwestarea on the day of Pentecost.

The Pasadena Church was deeplymoved and very grateful for Mr.Bairdsordination, and for the real growth andspiritual zeal he has evidenced. Origi-nally, he was asked to attend Ambas-sador College for a year or two by my

brother, Mr. Richard Armstmng, whofelt Mr. Baird might be qualified tobecome a local elder in the CorpusChristi Church after a year or two atAmbassador. However, because of Mr.Bairds unusual spiritual zeal andhisreally humble, meek atti tude, he spenta full three years at Ambassador Col-lege-and, ha vin g accom plished muchmore than was really expected of him-was ordained as a full minister, with therank of preaching elder, and sent tohelp pastor the Eugene and Salemchurches

Th e following Sabbath , June 4th ,saw a very lengthy ordiriation servicewith seven more ministers of G od beingset apart by the laying on of hands.

Mr. Leroy Neff, formerly holding theoffice of a local elder in the PasadenaHeadquarters Church, was the first tobe ordained. Mr. Neff, who is nowgraduated from Ambassador College,has been fulfilling a vitally importantpart in Gods work as headof the largemail receiving departments, which hehas now mostly delegated to other re-sponsible men under him, and alsopreaching in various other churches inthe southern California area, and hasbeen the pastor of a church at LongBeach.

Next, Mr. Albert Portune, also hav-ing held the officeof local elder in thePasadena C hurch, was ordained . Mr.Portune was Student Body President of

the class of 1960, and has been seiviiigas my personal executive assistant-inaddition to carrying heavy respnsibi l i -ties of preaching in the churches here insouthern California, helping with evan-gelistic campaigns, and other ministerialduties. Mr. Portune and Mr. Neff will

be taking a short baptizing tourthrough northern Cal i fornia and Oregon later th is summer.

Mr. Dale Hampton was the nextor-dained. Mr. Hampton, who has had tusuffer many personal tragedies, including the loss of two children, has beena real example of deep spiritual humility and submissiveness to all whoknow him. Mr. Hamptons poweras apreacher has been improvingso rapid-ly that he was selected to pastor thevery large church in Portland, Oregon

Next ordained was Mr. John David(Tony) Hammer. Tony, as all ofhis friends affectionately call him, ithe son of M r. and Mrs. Roy Ham merofGladewater, Texas. Tony and his com-petent wife Natalie are now servingas you read this article, in the newAustralian office under Mr. GeraldWaterhouse. Tony has been a real in-spiration to other students i n the realconsecration and dedication to Godswork he has displayed, together withan unusually humble and yieldedatti tude.

Perhaps it has not yet been madepublicly known, but there was a verygratifying ordination ceremony takingplace in the Pittsbargh Church on theSabbath prior to the Passover

M r. Wayne Cole, pastor of the Pitts-burgh and Akron churches, ordainedMr. Robert Hoops, who had been astudent at Ambassador College for fouryears and who graduated in 1959. Mr.Hoops was ordained as a local elder in

the Pi t tsburgh Church. Then, on Sab-bath, May 28th, additional local cldcrswere ordained in the HeadquartersChurch at Pasadena. Mr. A1 Dennis,formerly the head of the Transportat ionDepartment, and lately assisting in thelarge visiting program in the PasadenaChurch, was ordained as local elder.Mr. James Kunz, who has been a mem-ber of Gods true Ch urch for manyyears, and formerly a pillar in theChurch in Port land, Oregon and wil lbe entering his senior year at Ambas-sador College this fall. Mr. SelmerHegvold, who has been working in the

cabinet making shop, and lately assist-ing in the visiting program in Pasa-dena, was also set apart as a local elderin the Pasadena Church.

Next, Mr. Sidncy Hcgvold, who isSelmers brother, was ordained as adeacon in the Pasadena Church, to-gether with Mr. James Duke and Mr.Keith Thomas of the Pasadena Church.All three of these men have been serv-ing in the office of a deacon for quitesome time-and it was a gratifying cere-mony to see their services and abilitiesofficially recognized, an d the office ofdeacon bestowed upon each of them.

It has been the policy in the pastyear or so to send advanced and olderAmbassador College studen ts to becomeassistant pastors in some of the localchurch areas around the United States.

This year, due to the increased bur-dens on the shoulders of many of ourlocal ministers, and the growing churchattendance, we have had to send anunusually large amount of mento someof the local pastorates.

Messrs. Richard Pinelli and ClarenceHuse, both senior students of Ambas-sador College, will be assisting Mr.Carlton Smith in t he large New YorkCity Church, visit ing and counselingwith various of the members there dur-ing the summer months. Mr. RonaldDart and hiswife h a v e been sent co Chi-

cago, to assist Mr. Dean Blackwell inthe Chicago, Milwaukee andEl Paso,Illinois churches. Mr. Armstrong re-ported the astounding number ofabout 700 in at tendance in the C hicagoChurch for Pentecost Chicago is nowthe second largest Churchof G o d o nthe face of this earth-and certain lyneeds a great deal of help

HE TIME has come to reveal anamazing prophecy for the latterT ays

Yo24 need to understand it.This amazing prophecy has been woe-

fully misunderstood. Most scholars andchurches admit they do not understand it.

Some claim i t has already been ful-filled in 1844. They believe that in thatyear Christ entered into the heavenlysanctuary to cleanse it. But is thisdoctrine true? Its time we looked intothe Bible to see what this prophecyreally says.

A SEALED ProphecyOpen y o u r Bibles to Daniel 8 Notice

particularly verse 26. Daniel is com-manded to shut up the vision; for itshall be for many days.

Those wh o assume thib prophecy wasfulfilled in 1844 deny that Daniel wascommanded to shut up the vision-toseal it up from human understanding.Yet that is what the Scripture plainlysays

Here is a vital prophecy for our times h u t up from human understandinguntil these latter days--for the wordsare closed up and sealed until the timeof the end. Many shall be purified, andmade white, and tried; but the wickedshall do wickedly: and none of thewicked shall understand; b ut th e wiseshall understand (Dan. 12:9-10).

This prophecy was not for Danielsday, but for our age.

This prophecy was not meant to be

understood till the time of the end. To-day the wise shall understand. This isGods promise. These prophecies are tobe known today Now let us notice thisamazing prophecy in Daniel 8.

Time-Setting of the ProphecyNotice the setting of t he prophecy. It

IS the third year of the reign of Belshaz-zar the kin g of Babylon. Daniel receivesa vision while at Shushan in the palacein the province of Elam (Dan 8 : l - 2 ) .Here is what he sees in th e vision, ThenI lifted up mine eyes, and saw, and be-

hold, there stood before the river a r mwhich had two horns: and the two hornswere high; but one was higher than theother, and the higher came up last. I sawthe ram pushing westward, and north-ward, and southward; so that no beastsmight stand before him, neither was

there any that could deliver out of hishand; but he did according to his will,and became great (verses 3 and 4 ) .

Here is a mysterious ram. What doesthis ram symbolize? Notice the explana-tion revealed in verse 2 0 The ramwhich thou sawest having two horns arethe kings of Media and Persia Thi s ramsymbolized the Medo-Persia@Empire. Irdebtroyed rhe Kingdom of Babylon in539 B.C. and ruled to 331 B.C.

But this is only the beginning of theprophecy. Now notice verse 5 :

And as I was considering, behold, ahe goat came from the west on the face

of the whole earth, and touched not theground: and the goat had a notable hornbetween his eyes.

Now notice the explanation of thismysterious symbol. And the rough goatis the king of Grecaa: and the great hornthat is between his eyes is the firJt king(verse 21).

These symbols are revealed to Danielso that we can understand the TIME SET-TING of this end-time prophecy. T he ram-the Medo-Persian Emp ire -ex is ted onthe world scene until 331 B.C. Then theGreco-Macedonian Empire came on thescene with its first great king, Alexanderthe Great (verses 6 and 7 ) . The con-quest of the Medo-Persian Empire byAlexander the Great occurred in 331 B.C.

Now continue with verse 8 . . . thehe goat waxed very great: and when hewas strong, the great horn was broken;and for it came up four notable ones to-ward th e four winds of heaven. Re-member that the horn in the goats headsymbolized the first king of t he Greco-Macedonian Empire. That was Alexan-der the Great. But this horn was sud-denly broken Alexander the Greatdied suddenly of a fever in Babylon little

more than thirty years of ageContinuing with verse 22 of this amaz-

ing prophecy: No w that being broken,lexander the Great being dead

whereas four stood up for it, four king-doms shall stand up ou t of the kingdom,but not in his power.

Consider the time setting of thisprophecy. It commenced with the MedoPersian Empire which lasted until 331B.C. Then the Greco-Macedonian Empirecame on the scene with its first king,Alexander the Great. In 323 B.C. Alex-ander died at the age of 33. Alexandersempire was divided into four major parts-verse 22. None of these parts was asstrong as the whole kingdom had beenunder Alexander the Great. The timesetting of this prophecy already bringsus to the date 323 B.c. The rest of thcprophecy cannot begin beforethis dateYet those who claim it was fulfilled in

1844 must begin the prophecy over acentury too early.Now notice what is to happen next

on the world scene

A Prophecy for the Latter Time

Let us continue with verSe 9: Andout of one of them came forth a littlehorn, which waxed exceeding great, to-ward the south, and toward the east, andtoward the pleasant land.

Look at this prophecy again. Here alittle horn appears coming out of oneof the four divisions of Alexanders em-pire. This little horn cannot havedriren hefore the diuision of Alexmdsrsempire,as some claim Notice that again O u t of one o f th em came fortha littlehorn

Whatever this mysterious horn sym-bolizes, whatever this little horn does onthe world scene, must occur AFTER thedeath of Alexander the Great-after thedivision of his empire into four parts

W e come now to the climax of thisvision. Daniel was told: For at t h e timeof the erzd shall be ilir vision (verse1 7 ) .The vision of th e little horn is forthe time of the end Read verse 23,

Look at th is prophe:cy again. No iice itis a prophecy for the latter days. Thelittle horn symbolizes a king whoshall arise in the latter timeof theirkingdom (verse 23 ) . This man stands~p against the Prince of princes-that isChrist at His second coming He re isagreat G enti le world ruler who stands upagainst Christ and is supernaturally de-stroyed--without hand-not by hu ma nhand but by divine intervention int i 1 in an affairs

The Bible interprets this little hornas a riiler who shall exist at the secondcow~i i zgof Christ He comes on thescene when world transgression-worldsin-has reached its climax (ver se2 3 ) .

This little horn is described again inRcvclation 17: 14. Thcrc w e read thathe makes war with the Lamb and theLamb shall overcome him and his allies.This little horn does the same thingas the final beastof Kevelation

Yea, he magni-fied himself even to the prince of th ehos t , and by him the daily sacrifice wastakeiz a w q , atzd t h e p l ace of his sanc-tisarjf iias cast doi iw. And a host wasgiven him against the daily sacrifice byreason of transgression he marg inreads: the host was given over for thetransgression against the daily sacrifice--and it cast dow n the truth to theground; and it practised, and pros-pered (Daniel 8: 10-12) .

Many have tried to interpret thesemysterious symbols out of their ownhuman reasoning. They have tried toread into thc Bible meanings that arenot there. Let THE B I B L E interpretthe Biblc Noticc thc explanation inverse 24 : And his power shall bemighty. Thats the explanation of thcfirst p a r t of versc 10: It waxed great.

To continue: But not by his ownpower. This king will not accomplishh i s great deeds by his own strength.

Revelation 17:17 reveals why. Ten les-ser kings give their mil i tary power andstrength unto the Beast.

Thi s little horn shall destroy wond er-fully shall have marvelous, frightcn-ing m ilitary pow ers an d shall. destroythe mighty and the holy people (verse2 4 ) . Here is a persecuting power, apower whic h destroys G ods people-the childr en of Israel-and persecutesthe t rue church (Dan. 8 : 1 0, 2 4 ) .

Verse 25 continues to explain verse11, and so on.

But what about the daily sacrificethat is taken away and what about thesanciuaiy that is cast clown? Wliai dothese symbolize? W ha t do they m ean?

Could this be true of the heavenlysanctuary-Gods Throne?

Th e S u rp r is e Ans wer

Before we can fully understand thisprophecy we must read Daniel8:13-14.Then I heard one saint speaking, and

another saint said unto that certain saintwhich spake, How long shall be thevision concerning the daily sacrifice, andthe transgression of desolation, to giveboth the sanctuary and the host to betrodden under fo ot? And he said untome, Unto two thousand and three hun-dred days; then shall the sanctuary becleansed.

This is thc inystcrious part of thevision which was shut up to Daniel-which was not to be revealed until thelatter days

?his is a prophecy for th e latter daysSome have tried to ex plain this prophecy

before Gods t ime came to reveal it Oneparticular denomination claims that thisvision of 230 0 days commenced i n457B.C. and ended in A.D. 1844. This de-nomination claims that the2300 daysrepreseni 2300 yeais in fulfillment. Thi sdenomination further insists that thesanctuary that was cast down is theHo ly of Ho lies in heaven itself-Godsvery throne They claim that the verythrone of G od was cleansed beginnin gin 1844.

This denomination has assumed thatthe prophecy commenced fulfillment in457 B.C. How did they arrive at this

date? They certainly didnt get i t fromthe BibleNotice whyThe Medo-Persian Empire ruled the

lhis scrip ture clearly states thatChrist had four brothers, all of thembeing personally named. T he addedquestion, And his sisters, are they notall with us? implies that H e hadat leastthree sisters. If H e had only two, theywould have used the term, both, in-stead ot all.

Some claim that these were notreally brothers and sisters, only cousins.But Scripture reveals this is not true.

Here is the proof.Th e word breth ren is translated

from the Greek word for *btother-udelphos.This word may mean a spirit-ual brother, but it does not mean cous-in.

The English word cousin in Luke1 : j b and 5 8 is translated from sag-genes in the original Greek. This clear-ly shows that the Ne w Testament , whenreferring to Jesus family, makes thembrothers and not cousins.

Not Spi r i tual Brothers

W hat about thc contcnt ion that thesewere Christs spiritual brothers andsisters, instead of Hi s blood brothers andsisters-His siblings. W e find the an-swer in John 2 :12 . Christ went toCapernaum, accompanied by His moth-er, and His brethren, und His disciples.Here we find a sharp distinction ismade between His brethren and Hiscrisriples showing that they were NOTthe same. His spiritaal brethren wereHis disciples-those who believed Histeachings. His flesh and blood brothersdid not bel ieve Him (Jo hn 7:5) . Thisscripture certainly makes James, Joses,Simon and Judas His blood brothers.

In Marks account of Jesus visit toHis hometown synagogue, we find the

people wondering about His great wis-dom. They asked, Is not this the car-penter, the son of Mary, the brother ofJames, and Joses, and of Judas, andSimon? and are not his sisters herewith us? (Mark 6: 3 ) . These people,who had known Jesus from childhood,specifically stated th at H e was thebrother of several other young peoplcwho had grown up in their midst. These

people were very familiar with familyrelationships throughout the village.Notice that they are not called cousins,but brothers.

In Matthew 1 :25 we find that Christis called the FIRSTBORN son of Mary.Th e word firstborn is translated fromthe Girck w u d , p r u ~ u t u k u v ~ l i iclimeans the firstborn among other chil-dren-the oldest of several children ina family. If Jesus had been Marysonlychild, the Greek word monogenEs,meaning only child, would have beenused in the original Greek text. Jesuswas the only begotten humanson ofthe Heavenly Father (John 1 18 ) . Many other Ne w Testament scripturestell us distinctly that Jesus Christ wasnot the only child of His mother.

In Galatians 1: 18-19, Paul me ntionedhaving seen not only Peter, but alsoJames th e Lords broth er in Jerusalem.W e know that Paul was speaking ofabrother in the flesh. If he had beenspeaking of a spiritual brother-abroth er in the faith-he certainly wouldhave included Peter among Christsspiritual brethren. But he did not

Paul knew that Christ had otherbrothers. He stated: Have we notpower to lead about a sister, a wife,as well as other apostles, and as thebrethren of the Lord, and Cephas[Peter}? ( I Cor. 9: 5 ) . Notice thatthe brethren of the Lord are distinctfrom the twelve apostles. In Acts1:13-14 we find that the disczples continuedwith one accord in prayer and suppli-cation, with the women, and Mary themother of Jesus, AND wi th his brethren.

Since we have all beenapart of this world, a divinecull is neces-sary to reveal our need to repent andcome out of the world. Whetheror notconversion takes place asa result of thatcall is our responsibilzty Jesus statedthat he had com e to call the sinners, notthe r ighteous ( that i s , the sel f-r ight-eous) to repentance (Mat .9: 1 3 ) . Re-pentance-w ith belief an d baptism-isthe f i rs t s tep we must take in heedingthe call . Peter warns us to give diligence tomake our calling sure (I1 Pet. 1 : l O .If the calling of i tself m eant we are auto-matically converted, Peter would nothave wri t ten th is warning. W e make

our calling sure by yielding totally toGod.

Once God decides to call an individ-ual, H e will not change His mind( R o m . 11:29) . We each receive onlyone opportunity for salvation. If Godcalls us during this age, we are havingour on e and only oppo rtunity. Let us notexcuse ourselves by pretendzng wehavent been culled when we do under-s tand the t ruth W e must y ield our-selves to God, contrary to what wenaturally prefer todo.

How d o es G o d C a l l ?

Many misunderstand how God calls.Some feel God calls by means of anaudible voice. Others feel it is donebydrastic interv ention suchas accidents orfires. Still others-emo tionally inclined-desire a good feelingall over to beassured of a calling. W ha t is the truth ?How does God call?

Amazingly enough, the answer is verysimple. N o lengthy theological exposi-tion is necessary-such would onlycomplicate the L k d r , understandablescriptures on the subject . Turn to 11Thes. 2 : 13.

But we are bound to give thanksalways to God for you brethren belovedof the Lord, because God hath from thebeginning choseiz you to salvationthrough snnctificniion of the Spiri t andbelief of the truth.

Every supposed contradiction is theresult of either a mistranslation ora misinterpreta tion. Unless you approachthe scriptures with this truth, you can-not hope to grasp the full meaning ofGods word. You will fool yourself intobelieving the Bible is full of contradic-tions and cannvt be depended upon.

5 ) N o Private Interpretat ion:. . . N o prophecy of th e scripture is

of any private interpretation (II Pet.1 20). Many cannot understand scrip.,t u r e simply because they havc notlearned the Bible interprets itselfMany supposed contradictions occurbecause men have not learned to let theBible inte rpre t itself. These principles arenot discernible to the carnal mind uninfluenced by Gods Spirit.
