Process

Step 1: Finding the correct golf course.

Step 2:Measuring golf course.

Step 3: Creating a Polygon

Step 4: Recording Latitude and Longitude.

Step 5: Recording measurements.

Step 6: Caculating MPP.

STEP 1Knowing you have the correct course.

Know you have the correct course: 1. Open Excel file of requested courses. In this excel file you

will find the LAT and the LON of a course. (Also may use the address to locate the course)

Page 4: Google Earth Image Request Steps

• The LAT/LON takes you close to the golf course coordinates. You may have to use other web based tools to indentify the course (for courses that are close together). Then to Verify you have the correct course you may also type in 'golf courses' in the search bar and see the name of the course, however you would have to still use other web based tools to make sure you have located the correct course.

Google Earth Ruler

Page 6: Google Earth Image Request Steps

• Change the ruler from Miles to Meters• Click at the top most point of the course.• Click again at the bottom most point. (a line will appear• This gives you the Length of the Golf Course. You need to ROUND UP, in this

example: 1,076 needs to be rounded up to 1100.

Page 7: Google Earth Image Request Steps

• Repeat the process for the width of the course. The width distance needs to be entered into the spreadsheet as well

• You need to ROUND UP, in this example: 1,055 needs to be rounded up to 1100.

• A formula divides the greatest distance by 3000. • To make sure the resolution of the image is to standards where it can be

traced make sure the image is to be no larger than 1300 meters by 1300 meters. Any larger and the image is going to have to be split into a different Polygons.

• Next we want to obtain the true golf course image coordinates.

• Click on the Polygon tool

Page 9: Google Earth Image Request Steps

• Click on the left corner (it needs to cover the area)

• Click on the right corner• Click on the bottom right corner• This will then create a triangle

Page 10: Google Earth Image Request Steps

• Click the left or bottom and it creates a square (You can change the opacity on the Style/color tab to veiw course under the square).

• If you need to split the course then just make multiple squares (overlaping a small portion) and enter the coordinates on separate lines in the excel file.

Page 11: Google Earth Image Request Steps

• Click the “View” tab in the Polygon pop up• ***Very Important*** click the reset button• Click the “Snapshot Current View”

Page 12: Google Earth Image Request Steps

• Enter the LAT/LON into the LATR/LONR fields (Requested LAT/LON)

• Enter all the digits into the spreadsheet

Course Image Information

• Enter the measured meters in the appropriate cells. MetersH (for the height measurement), MetersW (for the width measurement).

• Resolution is then calculated from the Height and Width information entered but taking the largest (height or width and dividing by 3000 that is entered in MPP column).

• LATR and LONR (are the requested location points) Note:  Omit the degree symbol when putting this information in these cells.

What happens next• This process and information is very

important. This gets us the correct images to process.

• The spreadsheet is updated with the information and it is sent to Terraserver to obtain the images.

• The spreadsheet and images are returned to then begin the tracing process on the images.

• The spreadsheet should contain 1000+ requests for images. Note: Special batches can be requested.

• We will receive the best resolution and newest image available from Terraserver.
