TRANSCRIPT
Google Scholar provides a simple way to
broadly search for scholarly literature.
The user can search across many disciplines
and sources: most peer-reviewed online
academic journals and books, conference
papers, thesis and dissertations, preprints,
abstracts, technical reports, and other
scholarly literature.
What is Google Scholar?
Use the search
box.
From Google,
select "Apps,"
then "Even
More"
look for the link
to Google
Scholar.
The user can get to Google Scholar in a number of
ways:
•The H-Index to quantify research output by measuring author
productivity and impact.
• H-Index = number of papers (h) with a citation number ≥ h.
• A scientist with an H-Index of 37 has 37 papers cited at least 37
times.
H-index
•An author has 8 papers that have been
cited = [3, 6, 1, 5,0,0,0,0].H index
• Since the researcher has 3 papers with at
least 3 citations each and the remaining
two with no more than 3 citations each.H index
• H-index=3.H index
Example
•An author has 8 papers that have been
cited [33, 30, 20, 15, 7, 6, 5,4 ]times. H index
• H-index=6.H index
Example
•Created by Google Scholar and used in Google's My Citations feature.
• i10-Index = the number of publications with at least 10 citations.
• This very simple measure is only used by Google Scholar, and is another way to help gauge the
productivity of a scholar.
