Swimming Carnival Success!

It was wonderful to see the way students participated and encouraged their peers at the swimming carnival on Thursday. They swam to the best of their ability and went in so many races to help their sporting house win. Congratulations to the Goannas! Once again, our two war cry judges Lynne and Marie had a difficult job deciding the winner on the day-Rabbitohs. Lynne and Marie are great supporters of the school and their generosity is greatly appreciated.

Thank you to all the parents and family who assisted on the day by setting up, time keeping, selling food, packing up and enthusiastically encouraging students in their races. I know I have said this on many occasions; we can’t run these events without your assistance. Thank you to Miss Sim and Mrs Brown for organising the day and thank you to all the teachers; everyone helped to make it a very successful event.

parents and carers to ask questions and become more informed about the school.

School Contribution Fees

School contribution fees are $50.00 per child for the year. It is important to note that the $50.00 per child only goes a small way towards providing stationery and supplies for students.

You pay in person at the office or alternatively, you can pay via our school website:

https://goolgowi-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/

Click on ‘Make a Payment” and then follow the prompts.

If anyone needs to, they can speak to the Mrs Young confidentially about financial hardship involved in paying the school contribution fees.

Anne-Maree Young Principal

Uniform Order

A uniform order form was sent home last week. If you have any questions about uniforms, please contact Mrs Brown in the office.

The shirts and jackets can take up to 6 weeks for delivery.

Order forms, together with payment in full, need to be returned to the office by Thursday 20 February. Uniform payments can also be made via the school’s website.

K/1/2 News

It’s been another big week in K/1/2. We looked at the book ‘The Ugly Fish’ and described his character traits. He was mean, selfish, lonely and didn’t share. Luckily, no one in our class is like that! This week we are looking into ‘Rainbow Fish’. Rainbow Fish learns how to share. He discovers he values friendship most of all which is perfect as we have been learning about values; the school values and what we each value.

In maths, we have been focussing on days of the week and months of the year. We even tried our hands at skipping to the months of the year chant. We are learning our birthdays and ‘yesterday, today and tomorrow’.

We had the swimming carnival on Thursday and it was an all-round great day. Every class member there participated in events. We drew and wrote about it on Friday.

Homework started last week as well. If you have any questions about the set up and how to complete it please do not hesitate to ask. Homework is due on Fridays.

Bushfire Poems

In light of the recent bushfires around Australia, 3/4B wrote their own acrostic poems. Students took inspiration from what they had seen on the news, short video clips of the fires and class discussions around adjectives, verbs and metaphors that are related to bushfires.

Bushfires are running across the road. Unbelievably hot flames, Skies are black with ash. Hashing through the forest, Flames are extremely hot, I feel scared. Really hot flames are burning. Evacuate the homes. Yalarah

Burning, crackling sizzling. Under the flaming ashes in the sky. Snapping trees and scorching fires under the dark grey sky. Hot firemen try to extinguish the fires. Fast fires moving quickly through the forests. It’s a red, hot fire moving monster. Rapid fires moving quickly down the road. Everyone’s evacuating quickly before they come. Screaming people running around crazily in fear. Lexie

Bushfires growing humungous, Unbelievable fires jumping from tree to tree. Shooting flames to trees and bushes. Heat so hot it burns your skin, Fires licking, creeping and burning. It’s a red monster in anger. Raging through the trees, Enormous, red flames burning homes. Sam

5/6 News

On Friday, students in Years 5 and 6 began writing about their experiences at the Griffith Small Schools sports day and the School swimming carnival. Please enjoy reading some of their news reports.

On 12 February we attended the Griffith Small Schools sports trials day. The Year 5/6 students hopped in their cars to head to an action-packed day of sport. Most of the 5.6 first practised their touch football skills that were imperative to use for the touch game. With five minutes left on the clock, the GPS students were ready to score the winning try. After the touch trials, we headed to tennis. I played another student from another small school and by the end I versed the best tennis player at our school called Jewel Shaw about five times. After lunch, we went to Yoogali football oval to do stretching with Brett the Mortimer Shield selector. Thanks for all the teachers and development officers for organising the day, it really was a fun day. Jarod Year 6

This week there was a swimming carnival held at Goolgowi Public pool. There were many medal and ribbons handed out on the day. People swam in 25, 50, 100- and 200-meter races. Even though they were really tired, they kept competing as they knew it was for their team so they could continue to earn points. Everyone enjoyed the swimming carnival and at the end of the day the winning team was announced. The Goannas were victorious in 2020. Joshua Year 6

Last Wednesday, the majority of Goolgowi PS 5/6 class headed to Yoogali P.S. for a day full of sports, fun and heat. First up, it was time to head to touch. The students who were participating in the touch trials marched over to Henderson Oval for a full-on skill clinic to test their ball skill levels. The clinic organisers were Rosemary and Viv. The girls trialling for Mortimer Shield and soccer automatically got selected in the Small School’s team. There were more sports that the students could try out for including tennis, cricket, AFL and netball. It was a fun and hot day. You could say that the students lost their bodyweight in sweat after all the games they played. All of the students from Goolgowi enjoyed the day and had fun. Charlotte Year 6

Goolgowi Public School had a huge week of sport last week. With the Griffith Small Schools sport trials day on Wednesday and the School swimming carnival on Thursday. 14 records were broken at the swimming carnival and the Goannas were victorious again this year. A new swimming event was added to the swimming program, the 100-metre medley. Thank you to all the parents and staff for making the carnival possible.

Goolgowi Year 5/6 students had a fantastic day at the Small Schools try out day. Sports

you could trial for were; touch football, AFL, netball, cricket, tennis, soccer and league tag. On both days the weather was very humid. Overall, this was a huge week of sport for the Goolgowi senior students. Annabell Year 6
