President’s Message “Winds of March, we welcome you, There is work for you to do. Work and play and blow all day, Blow the winter cold away.” - Unknown Blow the winter cold away is an understatement!! Although we are in Arizona we have not escaped this “freak of a winter” as shown by the pictures on page 3 of this issue. We had record-setting cold and precipitation… and a touch of bad timing! I’m sure “cabin fever” is an ailment most have suffered this winter. So....bring on Spring, warm weather and camping with friends! Planning for the Spring Rally is completed and a signup sheet is included in this newsletter. I want to thank our host couples for their hard work. From all perspectives, it should be a GREAT time! During this rally in Topeka Kansas, Saturday April 27th at the general membership meeting, we will be voting on our Unit name change. This note shall serve as the required 20-day notice. I would also like to thank Frank & Coke Melton for offering to co-host our Fall Rally. Planning began as we met over another Golden Coral “Bruncheon” here in Apache Junction. Please mark your calendars for the weekend of September 26-29 in Columbia MO. In closing, as we all ponder our futures, let us be mindful of these sage words... - Cormac McCarthy - Debra Gopher News March 2019 WBCCI - Unit 059 Executive Officers President: Debra Doll [email protected] 1 st Vice President: Tim Timmons [email protected] 2 nd Vice President: John Eckardt [email protected] Treasurer: Kay Corder [email protected] Recording Secretary: Cheryl Ball [email protected] Corresponding Secretary: Dan Doll [email protected] Past President: Mike Bedinger [email protected] Parliamentarian (non-voting): Henry Roberts Newsletter Editor: Kirk Moore [email protected] KC Unit Celebrations! D a l e B u r g e rWBCCI Member Dale Burger passed away on February 16th at the age of 78. Dale lived most of his life in Texas. He and his wife, Barbara, were members of the Texas Highland Lakes Unit. After Dale retired, he and Barbara moved to Independence, MO to be close to family. While in our area, they became Affiliate Members of the KC Unit and were regular and welcome visitors to our monthly Luncheons.

Along with being a long-time Texas Longhorn fan, Dale’s obituary also mentioned that “he and Barbara enjoyed RVing, touring this great country whenever possible.”

February Luncheon – Feb 2, 2019Smoke House BBQ, Kansas City, MO

News from the RoadIt was a very wild week here in the desert! Phoenix had record rain and record cold temps, leading to our “incident” on Friday. For the first time in three days, we had left our rig with the awning out (properly tilted), but did not anticipate a freak sleet/snow storm that hit Gold Canyon!! Bad timing! Temps were in the upper 40’s when we left to go to a movie at 3pm and two hours later they had dropped to 36.

We returned to find our big awning collapsed from the weight of heavy ”slush” that had pooled into the center of the awning. Lucky for us, no damage to the trailer itself, but our Zip Dee Relax electric awning is now history. The high country around Flagstaff received 40+ inches of snow, and Payson nearly 30 inches!!We were so blessed to have wonderful friends and neighbors who came to our aid and helped us disassemble the damaged awning so we could use the entry door.
