When you hear a word from my mouth, warn them in my name. If I say to a wicked man: Wicked wretch, you are to die, and you do not speak to warn the wicked man to renounce his ways, then he shall die for his sin, but I will hold you responsible for his death. If, however, you do warn a wicked man to renounce his ways and repent, and he does not repent, then he shall die for his sin, but you yourself will have saved your life.’ The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Responsorial Psalm Ps 94:1-2.6-9. (R.) O that today you would listen to his voice! Harden not your hearts. Come, ring out our joy to the Lord; hail the rock who saves us. Let us come before him, giving thanks, with songs let us hail the Lord. (R.) Come in; let us bow and bend low; let us kneel before the God who made us for he is our God and we the people who belong to his pasture, the flock that is led by his hand. (R.) O that today you would listen to his voice! ‘Harden not your hearts as at Meribah, as on that day at Massah in the desert when your fathers put me to the test; when they tried me, though they saw my work.’ (R.) Second Reading Rom 13:8-10 A reading the letter of St Paul to the Romans Avoid getting into debt, except the debt of mutual love. If you love your fellow men you have carried out your obligations. All the commandments: You shall not commit adultery, you shall not kill, you shall not steal, you shall not covet, and so on, are summed up in this single command: You must love your neighbour as yourself. Love is the one thing that cannot hurt your neighbour; that is why it is the answer to every one of the commandments. The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Gospel Acclamation Alleluia, alleluia! God was in Christ, to reconcile the world to himself; and the Good News of reconciliation he has entrusted to us. Alleluia! Gospel Mt 18:15-20 A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew Jesus said to his disciples: ‘If your brother does something wrong, go and have it out with him alone, between your two selves. If he listens to you, you have won back your brother. If he does not listen, take one or two others with you: the evidence of two or three witnesses is required to sustain any charge. But if he refuses to listen to these, report it to the community; and if he refuses to listen to the community, treat him like a pagan or a tax collector. ‘I tell you solemnly, whatever you bind on earth shall be considered bound in heaven; whatever you loose on earth shall be considered loosed in heaven. ‘I tell you solemnly once again, if two of you on earth agree to ask anything at all, it will be granted to you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three meet in my name, I shall be there with them.’ Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ. A Prayer for Stronger Communities, Safer Children Gracious God you said let the children come to me. The hurt felt by those wounded by abuse weighs heavily upon us. Often trust has been eroded when institutions failed to appropriately respond to their needs. Lord, we as your Church stand in need of your healing and help. We ask you God to strengthen and guide all in our Catholic communities. Grant us wisdom in our time to make decisions that protect children and the vulnerable. May our families and communities, through love, generosity, commitment and patience build stronger communities safe for children. Let your grace and love fall gently upon our children giving them the inner strength, peace and resilience they will need for their life’s journey. We ask you God to help our Catholic communities to be resolute in building a community where our children both flourish and are safe. Update - Parish response to euthanasia and assisted suicide Timing of the bill and debate: We understand that the introduction of the Bill has been postponed (for a 3rd time) until the parliamentary sitting period beginning Tuesday 19 Sept. The expectation is that debate will commence four weeks later in the sitting period beginning Tuesday 17 Oct. Parish response This provides additional time for people to meet with MPs. Even if MPs say they are not accepting appointments to discuss the issue before seeing a Bill, continuing to seek a meeting conveys an important message about the level of community concern. The added time also affords an opportunity for those who have not yet written letters to do so. Let people know it is not too late to begin. Letters can now be sent as late as 9 October. To help defeat the Assisted Dying/Euthanasia bill it is very important to write letters to our local member Mr. Daniel Pearson MP PO Box 605 Moonee Ponds VIC 3039

Mon 4/09/2017 5:58 AM Greetings to one and all! The weather here has been wonderfully warm! In the past few days I have visited the excavations under Basilica of St. Peter as well as spent time in wonder and prayer in the Basilica itself, especially when standing before The Pieta. Another day was spend visiting the Vatican Museum all of which culminated with time in the Sistine Chapel taking in Michelangelo's wonderful painting of the chapel. Another evening was taken up with opera looking out over the Rome skyline - quite a treat! Another treat was catching up and sharing a meal with Fr. Mark Reynolds just prior to his returning today (Sunday). To the work I have come over here to commences, wish me luck! Ciao! Fr. Tony
