Arogyavani Health is Wealth, Healthy Food-Healthy Living

Date:01-08-2019

For the academic year 2019-20 , first programme started from the department was

giving health tips everyday in prayer session. Which can be followed easily by

everybody to lead healthy life. On 31st July 2019 , it has been discussed to start

such a programme to create awareness among students and staff. College

administration felt that giving small tips everyday can help in leading healthy

life. The necessity was felt when students are not following regular food

pattern thus facing problem of giddiness, nausea, weakness etc. With the

guidance of Principal Dr.S.V.Nayak sir and all other staff, the department of

Home Science prepared a plan to execute the task. Small health tips in the

name of “Arogyavani’ were written in a register and given to prayer incharge

Dr.Savita N Nayak, Librarian of our college.

Final BA and 2nd BA Home Science students were given resposibility of reading

health tips everyday during prayer session at 10am. The programme has been

started from 1st August 2019.

Aniketan Lecture Topic: Food based strategies to overcome micro nutritional deficiencies

Date:01-08-2019 Venue: Seminar hall

Smt.Vijaya U. Patil Asst.Prof. ofHome Science has given lecture on “Food based

strategies to overcome micronutrient deficiencies” on 01-08-2019 at 3pm in

seminar hall in Interdisciplinary discussion group “Aniketan’ Forum’ .

Dr.Savita N.Nayak ,Librarian and coordinator of the Aniketan forum welcome all

and introduced the resource person Smt. Vijaya U. Patil to the gathering.

Resource person spoke about the hidden hunger that is deficiency of

micronutrients, effect of the same, rich sources of micronutrients & food

based strategies to overcome these problems. She spoke about the household

methods that can be adopted easily and safely to overcome deficiencies. After

one hour session members present & students asked related questions and

discussed about the topic. III BA and II BA Home Science students were

Poshana Abhiyana programme Date:24-09-2019 Venue:Seminar hall Time : 11am

Inauguration of Poshana Abhiyana and 50th year of NSS was jointly organized by

Department of Home Science, Yuva Red Cross Unit, NSS unit, PHC Belase and

CDPO Ankola on 24-09-2019 at seminar hall at 11am.Dr.Archana Nayak , PHC

Belase inaugurated the function by testing haemoglobin of two students . Then

she spoke about aims of Poshana Abhiyana, health and hygiene. Chief guest shri.

Arun G,Naik , CDPO Ankola gave information about nutritious food. Social

worker Smt.Shashikala Nayak spoke about importance of NSS.

After stage programme haemglobin of 84 students was tested by the lab technician

PHC Belase . Step by step all 780 students will be tested. The necessary medical

assistance and nutrition counseling will be given to students. Till February it was

decided to complete all necessary steps to overcome anemia problem.

Poshana Abhiyana ,2nd Day programme

National Deworming Day Date:25-09-2019

Continuing Poshana Abhiyana programme on 25-09-

2019 in collaboration with PHC Belase . Deworming tablets

have been distributed to total 229 first year students of BA,

Bcom,BBA,& BSc. Principal Dr.S.V.Nayak. Sir started the

programme by giving tablet to 1st Bcom student. He spoke

about the importance of deworming ourselves to combat

anaemia. Then Smt. Vijaya U Patil , HOD and Assistant

Professor of Home Science, and Sri Abdul Nayamuddin D.H,

coordinator Yuva Red Cross Unit distributed the tablet to all

the first year students. Junior health worker from PHC Belase

also joined the programme. GFGC Ankola.

IMMUNIZATION Date:26-09-2019 Venue: BA class room

Syllabus based seminar was organised for the students studying

Home Scienceas one of the optional. While studying 5th paper Human

Development in V semester, Home Science students need to studyabout

pre-natal care, birth process & development up to adolescence.

Resource person Dr.Nitin Hosmelkar, Medical officer ,Primary Health

Center, Harwad, Tq:Ankola gave information about importance of

immunization, immunization schadule, types of immunization &

consequences of skipping it. Then he clarifies the doubts of the students.

Haemoglobin Screening Date:27-09-2019 & 30-09-2019

On 27th & 30th sept 2019 2nd and 3rd phase of haemoglobin

testing of students was done with the help of PHC Harwad.

Sandeep N.Naik lab technician done haemoglobin testing of

students . ASHA workers Malati D.Nayak, and Sumana R.

Vernekar assisted in testing total 94 and 88 students were tested

respectively on 27th and 30th. Smt Vijaya U. Patil HOD

department of Home Science with the cooperation of Smt.Sharada

Bhat HOD department of CSc, Smt.Jyoti G.Nayak HOD

department of History, Dr.Geeta B.Nayak HOD department of

Commerce and Sri.Abdul Nayamuddin HOD department of BBA

successfully conducted the programme.

Visit to Taluka Hospital Ankola Date:03-10-2019 Time : 4pm

Final BA V semester Home Science students study

Human Development paper . For the practical purpose of

the same students have been taken to anti natal care unit

of Taluka hospital Ankola on 03-10-2019 at 4pm by

course teacher & HOD Smt.Vijaya U. Patil. Dr. Asha Bhat

gynecologist explained about medical as well as home

care during prenatal period, then took students around the

anti natal & postnatal ward of the hospital. She also

explained about the immunization during pre natal

period. After explanation she clarified the doubts of the

students . Fifteen final BA Home Science students

attended the visit.

Visit to Taluka Hospital Ankola Date:03-10-2019

Visit to Government P.U. College , Ankola.- Smt Vijaya U Patil visited Govt.P.U.college

Ankola on 23-12-2019 to give information about Home Science subject. She interacted with

Arts & Commerce students and gave information about the subject, carrier opportunitites.

Visit to Dayanilaya Special School ,Alvekodi,Kumta Date:02-01-2020 Time : 9am

Final BA VI semester Home Science students study about children with

special needs. For the practical purpose of the same students have been taken to

Dayanilaya Special School (Mentally retarded children’s school) on 02-01-2020

at 9am by course teacher & HOD Smt.Vijaya U. Patil. Teacher and care taker of

the school Shri. Shiril Lofis explained about the school, its objective, number of

students & the facilities given to them. The institution is established with the aim

of providing education and vocational training to mentally retarded . Group

singing, story telling, music therapy, speech therapy, physiotherapy, yoga therapy,

raga therapy , alphabet, arithmetic skills, self help skills will be used to train

them. Vocational training like gardening, clay painting, clay modeling, candle

making, paper bag making, chalk making will be given to mentally retarded

children. Some of the children have achieved mastery in table tennis, some

excelled in weight lifting etc. There are 35 students in the school. Residential

facility for boys is there. Day scholar children were also there for training. Our

students played Kabaddi with that children. Then we had lunch with them. Our

students distributed cakes and biscuits to them. Smt.Vijaya U.Patil has given

learning toy sets to the school. Dikshita Morje given vote of thanks. All 16

students attended the visit.

and Inauguration of Home science forum Date:11-01-2020 Time : 12pm

A lecture programme on “Importance of early years in healthy life” by

Department of Home Science on 11-01-2020 at 12pm , in collaboration with

Youth Red Cross unit and NSS-II unit of the college.Resource person Smt. Sonal

Aigal CDPO ,Department of Women and child welfare,Karwar inaguarated

Home Science forum “PLETHORA” by watering the plant. Then she spoke

about the topic as a part of continuation of poshana abhiyana 2019-20. With the

help of PPT presentation she gave a elaborative talk on prenatal care, infant care,

nutritional importance, balanced diet, malnutrition, how to overcome

malnutrition, ,Government schemes for women and children, importance of

cleanliness. After the lecture she interacted with the studenta and answered their

Poshana Abhiyana Programme at PHC Harwad

Date:18th and 19th Jan 2020

Smt.Vijaya U. Patil Asst.Prof. of Home Science has

participated as Resource Person on Poshana Abhiyana

and given lecture on“ Importance of Food and

Nutrition to combat malnutrition among preschool

children” on 18-09-2019 & 19-09-2019 at sub

centers of Primary Health Center Harwad.

Resource person spoke about the importance of

nutrition to the mothers of children of Anganwadi

children ,and told about regional food usage in day to

day food consumption . After the lecture she has

cleared quarries of the mothers. Then observed food

exhibition prepared by mothers.

Visit to Himalaya Preschool for practicals Date:17th,20th,24th and 25th Jan 2020 Time : 10am to 12pm

Final BA VI semester Home Science students study

about Early childhood education . For the practical

purpose of the same students have been taken to Himalaya

Preschool Poojageri. All the final year 16 students were

divided into 4 groups, 4 members in each group. Our

students along with course teacher Smt.Vijaya U.Patil

went to their respective allotted (LKG and UKG) classes

at 10.15am. They introduced themselves to the preschool

students first day. One among 4 members in each group

demonstrated story, one rhymes with action, one

creative/craft activity and one nature and science

experience. Likewise all of them performed all activities

one by one.

Food adulteration awareness campaign Date:24th Jan 2020 Time :3pm

Department of Home Science has organised a demonstration

programme in collaboration with Modi Care (Pvt) Ltd about

adulteration of food and daily using products. Director of Modi

Care (Pvt) Ltd Shri Jeevan Naik from Bengaluru along with their

team demonstrated adulteration of food products like turmeric, tea

powder, coconut oil and other products like toothpaste,floor

cleaning material etc. They have also explained about

demonstration techniques as best way of communication. Then staff

who were present and students of IV and VI semester studying

Home Science as one of the optional participated in the discussion.
