20 But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. 22 For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. (1 Corinthians 15:20-22)

Resurrection People!

As I write this article only a few days have passed since we celebrated Easter together. What a joy filled occasion it was! With our Easter celebration in the rearview mirror the question becomes, “What’s next?”

The first answer to that question is that we are still celebrating Easter. According to the church’s liturgical calendar Easter is not a day but a season that starts on Easter Sunday and runs until Pentecost Sunday. Pentecost Sunday this year falls on June 9th. So, we are to continue to celebrate Easter through June 8th. The other part of the story is that every Sunday is considered to be a mini celebration of Easter. The whole reason that Christians worship on Sunday is because it is a celebration of the resurrection. The earliest Christians, who were all Hebrew, would have been used to worshiping on the Sabbath, sundown Friday until sundown Saturday. The resurrection changed the dynamics of worship in such a way that they decided to start to worship the resurrected Messiah on Sunday.

What does this mean for us? It mean that all of our worship should

be have as it foundation the hope of the resurrection. In fact it goes beyond or worship to our entire lives being centered around the hope of the resurrection. Easter Sunday may be in the rearview mirror, but our lives should never be the same because we are people of the resurrection!

Grace trustees met on March 26th. Several lights over the doors on east end of the

building have had solar bulbs put in. This means that the lights will not be on all day.

They will go off at day break automatically. We are looking for new lights to put over

both doors at both entrances to the church

Trustees voted and approved several bills for furnace repairs. Shanklin Heating- $99.00 for repairs to education wing furnace. Barley Heating $1300 for ducts to Chapel, they tied into education wing furnace. This saved us about $4000. $4000 to Gardner Heating for office furnace repairs. From now on we will only be using Barley Heating for future furnace repairs. An agreement was signed with reflective Energy Solutions to save us money over the next three years on electric and gas usage. It con-tained a solution that would save the church approximately $18,388.71 over a three-year contract. Or $6129.57 per year.

Trustees Your Trustees at Work May 2019

Finance March 2019 Financial Results:

Receipts- $82,326.89 or 98.02% of budget; we are seeing a trend of higher depend-

ence on building usage rent to meet regular obligations.

Expenses- $86,268.85; Income less expense <$3,941.96>. We have not paid 1st

Quarter 2019 District Apportionments of $699.99 and 1st Quarter 2019 Conference

Apportionments of $11,992.74.

Stewardship Are we a Mission Minded Church?

A church is a group of people gathered together in the name of Christ. God himself began the

church at Pentecost for the purpose of spreading the Gospel, reading His word, praying, sing-

ing His praises, and ministering to the needy. These purposes have not changed to this day.

But today, this entails a church building, the furnishings and maintenance, literature, lights,

heat and most of all, a pastor. And the church has a direct commission from Christ to “spread

the Good News to all nations.” We have a home and a mission. A mission-minded church is a

live church. Grace Church needs to come alive again. But to meet all these opportunities, we,

the church members must assume our responsibility in monetary support. I do believe in

these functions of my church. Therefore I must support it not only with my money, but with

my time, talents, and prayers. And I must do it joyfully. God loves a cheerful giver. I must re-

member too, that in reality all that I have belongs to the Lord. I am just the caretaker of it all.

Our money not only helps to spread the Gospel; it helps feed the hungry. Clothe the poor and

heal the sick. If we do this through love, blessings will be multiplied back to us many times

and ways.

The church is the only institution whose sole concern is to win souls to Christ and provide

spiritual food to the community. This is truly worthy of our support.

What’s Happening at Grace? May 2019

COFFEE HOUR FELLOWSHIP

Come and join us on the 3rd Sunday of each month immediately following the 9:15 am

service in the Youth Room for some good old Christian Fellowship over coffee and

cookies! All are welcome! Our Coffee Hour will run from 10:15 am - 10:45 am. We

would like to have this event to bring our congregation together. Please see Amanda

de Fays or Diane Spencer if you have any questions or would like to get involved.

NURSERY CAREGIVER NEEDED

We have an opportunity for a nursery caregiver here at Grace Church. This individual

will provide child care for infants and toddlers under the age of 3 years, during

various Grace UMC services and functions. If you or someone you know are interest-

ed, send a resume to the church office marked “Sandy Lutz, SPR Chairperson”. If you

Amazing Grace Seniors

The Amazing Grace Seniors met on April 4th at Scrambler Marie’s. The group is

beginning to grow. Twenty-three people enjoyed a good lunch, fellowship and

laughter. Tricia Davis gave us a short talk about the Card Ministry she is leading at

Grace. If you would like to know more about it see her. She attends the 8:00 am

service on Sunday. We thank her for sharing this ministry. Our next meeting will be

Thursday May 2 at Scrambler Marie’s at Belden Village. Orders will be taken at 11:30

A.M. We are asking everyone to bring someone with them. We love making new

friends. They do not have to attend Grace.

Dear Church Family,

Signs of Grace would like to thank each and everyone of you for all of your support and encouragement over the years. For the past 14 years we have had the oppor-tunity to share the Joy of lifting our hands to Praise God.

As in any family, our members and their families have experienced births. Moves, graduations, marriages, serious illnesses and even deaths. As we loved and support-ed each other, our goal of demonstrating the beauty of signing praises to our God re-mained our primary goal.

On May 12, 2019 we will be signing for the very last time. Although our group will no longer be performing, we hope that the positive impact we have made on your lives will last a lifetime.
