We are pleased that you have chosen California State University,Northridge for your graduate work and we welcome you to ourcampus. The Graduate School is committed to the development of
scholarly leaders through outstanding graduate programs that requirestudents to demonstrate critical thinking and analysis, the ability to
integrate theory and practice, and creativity in scholarly endeavors.
CSUN offers fifty-seven graduate degrees in which students work
closely with the faculty in their program on the degree requirements.
Prospective and current graduate students should be familiar with
the requirements of the program they plan to complete and should
complete a written plan with a faculty advisor outlining require-ments to be satisfied. Each graduate program has a coordinator
who is prepared to offer program information and advisement.
This handbook is intended to supplement the information about
individual programs that can be found in the University Catalog. It
reiterates all the minimum university requirements and policies that
all masters degree students must meet. Most programs have addi-
tional or higher requirements in at least some of the areas discussed.
In addition, this handbook contains information about available
scholarships, fellowships, research opportunities and various rules
and regulations.

If required, satisfactory performance on departmental admissions
assessments approved by the University (e.g., art, music, theatre).
Students must pass the Upper Division Writing Proficienty
