A recent study showed that a quarter of restaurant, hotel and pub operators do not encourage their staff to up-sell wines to customers. The research found that many operators were failing to train their staff on how to understand or make recommendations about wine, and even discovered that half of the operators interviewed made no effort to cross-sell wines against food menus.

So how well are you talking about wine? In successful pubs, restaurants and hotels, up-selling wine is more than just a way to increase revenue; it is also vital to achieving excellent levels of customer service. Being prepared is the key to finding the right wine to fulfil or exceed the customer’s expectations. Why miss out on a great customer moment when asked to recommend or suggest a wine?

Study the major Black Grape varieties and learn about the wines produced from them:

White Grapes

Study the major White Grape varieties and learn about the wines produced from them:

Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Viognier, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Grigio, Chenin Blanc, Semillon.

Certification

Learners who correctly answer* the online assessment receive a certificate suitable for framing from WSET.

(* A minimum mark of 80% is required to pass)
