Importance of the

Program

Importance of program Subsequent to CVS being a part of our school, students

in Marketing Education had a background and skills in marketing. However CVS brought something new to Greater Lowell Technical High School.

This store has created a new learning environment for students.

Being the first High School CVS Store, CVS has created new opportunities for not only the school and its students, but also for the company itself.

CVS and Jonathan DaSilva have offered a training program and guidance to help prepare Marketing Education students for real world occupations.

CVS opened a student-run store at Greater Lowell Technical High School in October of 2015.

Greater Lowell Technical High School is the largest Technical High School in the country.

Greater Lowell Tech also has the largest marketing program. Students buy products for the stores, deal with the IRS and financial aspects of businesses. Students also obtain educations and required skills needed for a retail position. Despite this education the students are getting, CVS has benefited both the school and the students in more ways than one.

Benefits to Students

CVS has created opportunities for hands-on, industry-based training and experience.

Provides scholarship opportunities for college bound seniors.

Provides a growth-oriented career pathway for work bound students.

Benefits to StudentsAs a result of this program CVS has created many opportunities for the Marketing

Education students at Greater Lowell Technical High School, including a college scholarship for graduating students and occupations for those who undergo training. Part of the partnership with CVS includes students undergoing training just as a CVS employee would. This greatly benefits Marketing students because it gives them insight into the company and the works behind it. It also gives students an opportunity that many high school students are not provided with.

CVS has devised a Co-Operative Education occupation opportunity with juniors and seniors in the program for both Medical Assisting and Marketing Education. Obtaining hands-on opportunities to a student-run CVS store is beneficial to the Marketing students. The training and experience helps students prepare for occupations, not only with CVS, but it is vercital with many retail businesses.

Benefits to CVS

Creates a pipeline of skilled employees.

Graduates of the program are prospective management and employee trainees.

Benefits to CVSThe program between CVS and Greater Lowell Technical High School is not only

beneficial to the students but to the company as well. With the program in place it creates an employee pipeline for CVS. CVS has created many pharmaceutical stores within schools, but never a retail store.

The Marketing and Medical Assisting students are receiving training personally by an executive of CVS, and with this training we learn what store managers are taught. This gives us more of an insite to the company rather than any other 17-18 year old that would apply. Considering the training students have experienced, CVS have trained employees at hand, with skills that could be extremely beneficial to the company.

Through generating this partnership, Greater Lowell Technical High School’s CVS has influenced many other executives to expand this program to other schools. This program has granted the company with prospective employees and a broad scope of opportunities. As a result of this program, CVS can only benefit and grow from this point on.

What We Have

Learned

Page 9: Greater Lowell Tech CVS

What We Have LearnedThe Marketing Education and Medical Assisting students have received training,

experience, and are condigned with future benefits successive to their completion of the program. The students of Greater Lowell Technical High School have gained ascendancy to alternative high school students.

Marketing Education students, who have completed the program, will leave high school with adequate knowledge to obtain an occupation with CVS. As the result of extensive training and preparation these students will be able to acquire a position within a retail business, not only CVS.

Medical Assisting students, who have completed the program, will leave high school also with adequate knowledge to obtain an occupation with CVS. As the result of extensive training these students will be able to obtain a pharmaceutical position within a Healthcare business, not only CVS.

A study was conducted at Greater Lowell Technical High School on May 19, 2016.

The students in Marketing Education created a list of highly requested items. They asked consumers to check off the products that they are most likely to purchase.

The survey asked 157 students and staff what products they would like to see in Greater Lowell Technical High School’s CVS store.

The following slide shows the feedback collected.

Under the OTHER category many students and staff listed food related items.

As you saw in the result of the survey FOOD was the most requested item with a startling 145 votes out of 157 students!

However, CVS is not currently allowed to sell food related products.

Chantal Jackunchuck researched ways CVS could legally sell food.
