are largely selected from among under-served, socio-economically disadvantaged and educa-tionally at-risk communities. One purpose of
this program is to groom and give its members the es-sential tools and support they need to be both excellent
role models as well as effective teachers.

Keys to Taming Your Tongue (Taking Responsibility for your Words)
You probably know the pain of regretting words you have spoken: words of pride, dishonesty, envy, gossip, or anger. Although you can seek to restore bruised relationships through repentance and forgiveness, spoken words can never be retrieved. Scripture warns, “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers” (Ephesians 4:29). Consider the following keys for taming the tongue: 1. Rely on God’s strength to aid you—With human efforts alone, no one can tame his tongue. “The tongue can
no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison” (James 3:8). Only by the grace of God in your life can you seek to control your speech. “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me” (Philippians 4:13).
2. Dedicate your heart and tongue to the Lord each day—You face new circumstances and new conversations every day. Regularly acknowledging your need for discernment and God’s grace helps you remain conscious of your words. “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in Thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer” (Psalm 19:14)
3. Put your heart in tune with God’s Spirit by daily reading His Word—”All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works” (2 Timothy 3:16*17).
4. Meditate on Scriptures that address the power of words—By studying Scriptures about the tongue, you will gain insights into the power of your words. Memorizing and meditating on these verses will strengthen your resolve to speak with grace. “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against Thee” (Psalm 119:11).
5. Assume responsibility for every word you speak—God desires that you speak the truth (see Ephesians 4:25 and Psalm 15:2) and that you keep your word (see Matthew 5:37). He will hold you responsible for what you speak. “...Every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment” (Matthew 12:36).
6. Ask those around you if you use words that are offensive—Your family, friends, co-workers, and acquaintances can observe the effects of your words and attitudes. Ask them about your speech patterns and evaluate the observations they share. (See Proverbs 27:6, 17).
7. Commit yourself to giving a good report and when it is necessary, to following Biblical principles of correction—”Thou shalt not go up and down as a tale bearer among thy people ...Thou shalt not hate thy broth-er in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbor, and not suffer sin upon him. Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself: I am the Lord” (Leviticus 19:16-18).
8. Fulfill past promises, and think carefully before making any new promises—You need to fulfill the promises you have made, even when doing so requires unforeseen sacrifice. God will bless the one who “...sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not” (Psalm 15:4). Jesus said, “Let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay…” (Matthew 5:37).
9. Ask for forgiveness for any unloving words or attitudes—”For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man…” (James 3:2). When you speak words that you shouldn’t have spoken, seek forgiveness. “Let all...evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: and be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you” (Ephesians 4:31-32).
10. Learn to speak words that will encourage, comfort, inspire, and edify—Ask God to guide you to speak words that will honor Him and accomplish His purposes. “Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man” (Colossians 4:6). “Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? Let him show out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom” (James 3:13)
Your words indicate what is in your heart. See Matthew 6:45). In your efforts to control your tongue, follow the Apostle Paul’s admonition: “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things (Philippians 4:8). When the thoughts of your heart are focused on what is good and true, your words will reflect it, bringing honor to God and to others.

The Spirit Gives Life
“It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: The words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life….,
Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life.” John 6:63-68
“[God] hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter,
But of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.” 2 Corinthians 3:6
“It is the spirit that quickeneth.” In these words and the corresponding ones of Paul, “the spirit giveth life,” we have the nearest approach to what may be called a definition of the Spirit. (also see 1 Corinthians 16:4-5). The Spirit always acts as a life-giving principle. Our Lord placed the flesh in opposition with the Spirit. He said, “The flesh profiteth nothing.” He means the flesh has the power in which the natural man or the un-yielded believer seeks to serve God or to understand spiritual truth. Our Lord indicates the futile efforts of the flesh in the words, “profiteth nothing.”
This is also the reason for the weakness in the lives of many believers who read and know a great deal of Scripture. They do not know that it is the Spirit that quickens. The human understanding, however, intelligent, however earnest, profits nothing. They think that in the Scriptures they have eternal life, but they know little of the living Christ as their life in the power of the Spirit. The solution is very simple: we must refuse to deal with the written Word without the quickening Spirit. First, in a quiet act of worship, look to God to give and renew the workings of His Spirit within you. Then, in a quiet act of faith, yield yourself to the power that dwells in you. Then wait on Him so that not only the mind, but also the life in you, may be opened to receive the Word. We must wait on the Holy Spirit within us to receive and reveal the words in His quickening pow-er and work them into the very life of our life. Then we will know in truth that “it is the spirit that quickeneth.” We will see how divinely right it is that the words that are Spirit and life should be met in us by the Spirit and the life dwelling within. They alone will unfold their meaning, impart their substance, and give their divine strength and fullness to the Spirit and the life already within us.

July Answer
Jerusalem’s destruction was immi-nent, the people were destined to go into exile, but God told Jeremiah to buy a field from his cousin, Hanameel of Anathoth. This was a prophetic indicator that the people would return to that covenant land.
Trivia Question for July
In Chapter 32 of Jeremiah, what did God tell him to buy?
August Question
In Chapter 7 of Ezekiel, who/what did God say would possess the houses which formerly belonged to the Jews?

Health, Personal and Sweet Tooth Needs Satisfied
Florida is home to sunshine, beaches, Disney and many other things. It is also home to the third largest incidence of homelessness in the United States. In 2015,the homeless population in Florida was forty one thousand five hundred and forty two (41,542) with almost thirty thou-sand (30,000) being children.
On July 9th, members of the Commission on Social Action visited the Salvation Ar-my Homeless Shelter. Blood Pressure checks were done, personal hygiene items and sweet treats (goodie bags) were distributed to grateful residents. The success of this project is dependent on the contributions from the members of Mt. Zion.
A personal thank you is extended to all who have generously donated in the past and we encourage others to share in this Ministry.
Thank you, Anna Herring, Coordinator

Your Back-to-School Financial Checklist
Many of us give ourselves a little more latitude (financially and personally) during
summer. With the dog days of summer drawing to a close, back to school
season is a good opportunity (even if you’re not a parent or a student) to revisit
your finances and get on track for the rest of the year. Let’s check some items
off by:
1. Assess where you stand—if you set financial goals at the beginning of the
year, now’s a good time to check your progress. A good goal for most people,
according to John Rosenfield, head of everyday banking at Citizens Bank, is to
save up at least three to six month’s worth of living expenses in an emergency fund. He also
suggests looking at financial areas you’ve been ignoring such as credit card balances or student
loans.
2. Check (or create) your budget—check in with your budget (or actually make one). “The majority
of Americans do not have any kind of budget and do not monitor their cash flow, “ says Laura
Adams, author of “Money Girl’s Smart Moves to Grow Rich.” Most people find that they are over-
spending in ways that they don’t realize, so it’s about checking in, and if you’re one of those really
on-top-of-it people who already have a budget, make sure you’re on target through the end of the
year.”
3. Break down your goals—if you are trying to reach a certain financial milestone by the end of the
year, break your goal down into smaller parts. Instead of saying “I need to save $500 by
December 24,” calculate how much you need to save each week or month to make that happen.
4. Review your credit report—consumers are entitled to one free credit report from each of the
three major credit reporting agencies once a year through AnnualCreditReport.com, to make sure
you are not the victim of identity theft.
5. Revisit your insurance needs—it is recommended that you check your insurance coverage
once a year. Does the coverage still suit your needs? Are you overpaying for coverage? You
can’t always switch health insurance at any time of the year, but you can certainly switch home-
owners or auto insurance providers if you find a better deal.
6. Look for rate-cutting opportunities—most homeowners know they can refinance their mort-
gage to a lower rate, but you can also refinance others types of loans, including student loans. If
you have credit card debt and a decent credit score, explore zero percent balance transfer offers,
but do the math to make sure that the saving won’t be offset by other fees.
7. Optimize your tax strategies—looking ahead to year end, Rosenfeld suggests that consumers
plan how they’ll reduce their tax liability through charitable contributions or retirement
contributions. If you haven’t reached your 401 (k) contribution limit yet and have extra money
coming in, consider boosting your contributions to lower your taxable income and put aside extra
money for retirement.
We hope these tips help!

From the Office Staff:
We hope you had a restful month and you are
ready to begin ministry again. July was a month
of pain, hurt, joy and celebration with God calling
some of our Family Members home to be with Him.
It was a time to reflect, and appreciate all that we
have been blessed to have and the people in our
lives to LOVE. Truly our FAMILY is a gift from God
and let us continue to cherish each day with them,
especially our Children.
The Not My Son initiative has begun and we have
canvassed neighborhoods to help with this move-
ment. If you would like to get involved in this initia-
tive, we have yard signs and you can pick one up
from the office. Be a part and make a difference.
Please be mindful of our
