Greek Civilization The Greeks expanded in all the

Mediterranean sea.They formed series of independent states with a language and common culture.

It was located in the Balcanes peninsula.It origin was 3000 years a.C and start in Athens during the V century a.C .

Greece It was situated

behind Italy and made border with the mediterranean sea.

They created our alphabet.

They made the first important constructions.

Greek goverment Democracy,gave all male citizens the

right to atend public meetings and to vote on decisions about how the state should be run.

Women had no say government,little freedom and a few rights.

Slaves and foreigners had no right. All important decisions were made in

the ekklesia.

Agora The agora

was the main important part and all citizens go there.

Punishment and Ostracism PUNISHMENT:the only people put in

prision for crimes were foreigners,or criminals awaiting execution.

OSTRACISM:unusual form of punishment:they would have to leave Athens for 10 years,within ten days of the decision being taken.

Marriage A athenian girl get married

at the age of 14 or 15 years. She had no say about who

she married. Getting married was an

important step for a girl. She has to do a offering to

the gods. Wedding fest The bride has an important

dressed. They ate separated. In the night the father made

a ritual.

Slavery and freedom,old age and dead

All athenians who could afford it had slaves.

Only poorest families had no slaves.

Slaves could be granted their freedom by their masters.

Freedmen and woman had no the same rights as Athenian citizens.

Old people was respected and cared for their childrens.

When somebody died,he was in a coffin.

The coffin had diferent steps before the funeral.

Farming,food and drink Life in Athens was very diferent for the society. Ancient greeks farms were small,they kept

animals to have a benefice of them. They cultivate much things. Ancient greek food was plain and healthy. Families ate so varied.(almost wealthy and

normal families) Poor people ate rough bread or porridge Whealthy families hunted animals. Most people drank wine,wich they mixed with

water.

A new birth and childhood games

Athenians did not had large families. Boys were valued much more than girls. Girls need a dowry when they married. When a child born,the father do a signal to

people to know it. Ten days after the birth ther was a

celebratory meal and the baby recive presents of the family.

Poor women have to care of their own baby but others no.

At the 7 years childs were brought up at home.

They played with dolls and toys. Mothers tell their childrens stories and

rhymes. After the age of 7 years the girls help at

home and the boys continue in the school.

School and education for girls

School was held in the teacher house.

Boys learned to read,and to do arithmetic.

They learned history of Greek writers and as they got older they learned to sing and play the lyre or flute.

Athenian girls did not go to school,in richer families they might have a tutor at home.

Athenian girls didn´t take part in sports and exercise like boys.

Spartan girls,did exercise in public.This was very shocking for Athenians.

Clothing Greeks did not wear

complicated garments.Their basic garment was a tunic.

Most commonly clothing was made from woollen cloth,etc.

Clothing for the poor was made from a very coarse cloth made fom animal hair.

The mens hairstyle was short or long,youngest men were clean shaven,older men are shown with beads.Women had long hair pulled with a pony tail or a bun and they often wear ribbons and hair scarves.

Religion In the ancient Greek world,religion was

personal.With formal rituals wich included animal sacrifices and libations,myths to explain the origins of the mankind and give the gods a human face,temples wich dominated the urban landscape,religion was never far from the mind of an ancient Greek.

Psique Symbol of psique

Psique was the smallest and most beautiful of three sisters, daughters of a king.She was the wife of eros but they have some problems before to became husband and wife.She was the most beautiful lady and Aphrodite,the mum of Eros was jealous.

Myth of Psique In the story, Psique was a princess who be so considered by her beauty that Aphrodite became

jealous and sent Cupid to revenge, telling him to make her fall in love with a man of no value, but the same Cupid fell in love with her. Her parents went to the oracle of Apollo and he told them to leave her on a mountain where a boyfriend with a terrible appearance would ask his hand. A wind carried her to a deep valley and began to walk until she found a palace. Eros going to visit all the Nights without revealing his identity. Her sisters came out in their search and tried to convince her to reveal his appearance by telling her that he was a huge snake who wanted to eat it. One night Psique lit a lamp to see it and Eros woke up furious and abandoned she. Psique repentant I seek it all over the world until meet Aphrodite.Her charge tasks seemingly impossible but Psique surpasses it with the help of other beings that offer their help. The last task emerges in a deep dream that Eros rescues and Asks Zeus permission to take her to the sky and there they raise their son with the name of voluptas.

Personal Opinion I love this work because I like a lot the

greek´s mytology and I think that is so interesting to know something about our ancestors. And is so good because we learnt a lot of things that we didn´t know before.
