Group Policy

• Group Policy is a feature of the Microsoft Windows family of operating systems that control the working environment of user accounts and computer accounts. Group Policy provides the centralized management and configuration of operating systems, applications, and users' settings in an Active Directory environment.

Requirements for using Group Policy• The network must be based on AD DS (that is,

at least one server must have the AD DS roleinstalled).

• Computers that you want to manage must be joined to the domain, and users that you wantto manage must use domain credentials to log on to their computers.

• You must have permission to edit Group Policy in the domain.

How to Start Group Policy Management Console

• You start the GPMC from the Start menu: Click Start, All Programs, Administrative Tools,Group Policy Management. You can also click Start, type Group Policy Management, andthen click Group Policy Management in the Programs section of the Start menu.

Create a New GPO from a Starter GPO

• Open the Group Policy Management Console. Expand the Starter GPOs node.

• Right-click the Starter GPO you want to use to create a new Group Policy object and then click New GPO from Starter GPO .

• In the New GPO dialog box, type the name of the new Group Policy object in the Name box.

• Click OK .
