Reliable, safe and secure Aerospace Services.Space Traffic ManagementFor Safe Air and Space Travel:

The safe integration of manned and unmanned Space Vehicles which are mainly operating in suborbital altitudes or in low earth orbits, into the conventional Air Space is the essence of Space Traffic Management.

New routings, different separation standards, enhanced training for traffic control operators, and dedicated airspaces need to be defined. The development of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) applications will help the supervision of the ever-increa-sing air and space traffic. In addition, Space Traffic Management also deals with important topics like Space Weather, Space Surveillance, Space Debris Tracking and Avoidance and Clean Space.

Under a contract with the European Space Agency (ESA), DLR GfR has developed a Roadmap towards a European Space Traffic Management system.

Drone Detection and Protection SolutionsFor keeping airport operations Safe and Secure:

The continuously growing number of drone users and applica-tions is a serious threat to the safety of civil aviation. Besides operational safety issues like the risk of mid-air and on-ground-collisions, drones also pose a threat to airport security. DLR GfR

supports airport operators and air navigation service providers by delivering end-to-end solutions tailored to customers’ needs. This encompasses designing and implementing effective de-tection and protection measures as well as offering procedures and tools which facilitate incident reporting and tracking and accordingly enable the prompt execution of countermeasures. Last but not least, DLR GfR develops concepts ensuring safe and controlled operations of drones at customers’ sites.

Ground Based Augmentation ServiceFor Safe and Secure Precise Landing and Airspace Optimization:

The use of GNSS signals for on-route navigation and precise landings will become the aviation standard. Complementing Sa-tellite Based Augmentation Systems (SBAS), such as EGNOS and WAAS, Ground Based Augmentation Systems (GBAS) will enable precise approach and landing also under CAT-III conditions.

In addition, GBAS can contribute to Airspace design flexibility, to the reduction of fuel consumption and emissions and to the optimization of airport capacity planning. In order to take an informed decision regarding the implementation of GBAS,

DLR GfR can provide a GBAS Readiness Assess-ment, including the monitoring of ionospheric effects and interferences, in support of safe and reliable GBAS opera-tions. With its unique background as an operator of the satellites of the European GNSS Galileo, as well as a certified ANSP, DLR GfR is in the perfect position to support customers during the initial assessment, implementation and operation of GBAS.

Mitigating GNSS ThreatsFor a Safe and Secure environment:

The use of GNSS opens the door to a large number of applica-tions in various domains. New products and services are cons-tantly being developed for the benefit of private and commercial users. In order to operate the GNSS applications in a safe and secure way, it is important to understand the threat environ-ment. GNSS signal vulnerabilities include threats like interfe-rences, multipath, jamming and spoofing. The risks from these threats can be managed, allowing for Safety of Life relevant GNSS applications, like precision landings.

DLR GfR services include threat identification, monitoring and mitigation solutions, protecting your business from unintentio-nal, as well as intentional, threats.
