The learning environment at GSM London’s School of English is great! The small class size means that the teachers can really focus on each student individually to improve our confidence. I would definitely recommend this school to others. Maikal Thapa, Nepal, IELTS Preparation

Our English language programmes are taught at our modern School of English based at Greenford Campus, by experienced and enthusiastic teaching staff. We believe that students learn best when they are motivated and inspired, so we ensure our classes are dynamic and interactive.

Our learner-centred lessons cover all aspects of grammar, vocabulary, listening, reading, speaking, writing and pronunciation. We use the most

up-to-date resources and teaching methodologies to help you build your language skills, allowing you to communicate in English with confidence in any situation - studying, working, or relaxing.

Our English language programmes give you variety and flexibility. You can start with the course that meets your needs and move on to a more advanced course once you feel ready.

Learning English opens doors – which is one of the reasons why more than 600,000 students travel to the UK every year to study English. Whatever your next step in life, our programmes will help you get there.

English for everyday communication

Our General English course is very popular at the school. And because it takes place every weekday morning, it leaves you the afternoon free to study in our campus library, join one of our organised trips around London, or explore the local area with friends.

This course focuses on the four core language skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing. It will help you communicate more confidently in English by improving your fluency and accuracy in spoken and written English. Individual tutorials with your teacher will also give you the opportunity to work on specific difficulties and provide you with detailed feedback on your progress.

The focus of the course is on teaching English through fun, using interactive activities, role-plays, projects and games. We use a course book for our General English courses, which we supplement with a variety of up-to-date authentic materials. You will also get access to GSM London’s Virtual Learning Environment, and Online Classroom, where you can complete homework and have your progress tracked and checked by your teacher.

At the end of this course you will receive a detailed assessment of your progress, and an end-of-course certificate.

There is also an intensive option to the General English course: this option runs on two additional afternoons a week, when you work intensively to improve your communicative competence through discussions, topical debates, and grammar and vocabulary activities.

General English

The support provided by the friendly teachers at GSM London has made learning English so much easier. I enjoy learning with fun games and having interesting talks with my classmates. I’m so happy and really feel at home!

This is a great place to study, see what our staff have to say.

We are extremely proud of the feedback we get from satisfied students. With the support and guidance they receive from our dedicated team of teachers, all experts in their field, our students are often surprised by how quickly their English has improved.

Eleanor Murchie Director of English Studies

I believe that students learn best when they are interested, challenged, and actively involved in their studies, so we make our classes as interactive and engaging as possible; it’s great to watch them grow in confidence over the course of their time with GSM London.

Rose Stanford English Lecturer

Many of our English students choose to go on to study a degree with GSM London. I support and guide them on to a degree that is a perfect fit for them. I love meeting people at the beginning of their exciting journey.

Kevin de Guzman Course Advisor

At GSM London we are proud to have educated students from the UK and further afield for over 40 years and to have played a significant part in their success. Choosing to study here will have a hugely positive impact on your future. I really believe that it is a decision that you will never regret.

Professor Alison WrideProvost, GSM London

International Foundation Year If you would like to progress on to an undergraduate academic degree with GSM London, the International Foundation Year (IFY) is an ideal choice.

The GSM London International Foundation Year (IFY) is part of an extended degree programme aimed at individuals who may not have the English language and/or academic qualifications to guarantee direct entry on to the first year of an undergraduate degree programme.

This is a unique programme that will develop your English language, academic and study skills and provide you with the knowledge to prepare you for the next two or three years of your degree.

You are enrolled on the Plymouth University degree programme from the moment you start the International Foundation Year – so your higher education journey has already started!

What will you study? All BA, BSc and LLB students on the IFY can study for two or three semesters. Students on the two semester programme will study six modules over two semesters:

• management principles • computer literacy • personal development and planning • numeracy • English for Academic Purposes 1 and 2

Law students study legal studies instead of management principles. Students on the three semester programme require additional knowledge in English to succeed in their studies. They complete all the same modules as students on the two semester programme with an additional semester of preparatory English.

You will receive additional support during your first semester in the form of Undergraduate Support Classes, delivered in a relaxed and informal environment,

which will develop key skills which include:

• essay writing • presentation and seminar skills • lecture listening • note taking

Group projects, practice questions and practical exercises relating to your individual modules will all help prepare you for your end of term assessments.

How will the IFY help you?A higher education qualification undoubtedly leads to improved employment prospects and further studies, and many of our students who have passed this course have gone on to study at undergraduate level. GSM London has a commitment to providing educational opportunities for those who want them. All we ask of you in return is your commitment to study and the drive to achieve a good classification of degree.
