Connect the inverter to the power supply and the motor. Then, turn on the power to enable variable-speedoperation.Notes:1) To operate the inverter using the factory-settings,

proceed as follows:(1) Start/stop .................Press or key on

the keypad panel.(2) Setting frequency ....Use the frequency setting dial

(VR) on the keypad panel.2) To enable and keys for frequency setting,

select function code F01 and change the data from4 to 0. Change of the data code disables the VR(frequency setting dial).

    3) Keep the control circuit wires at least 100 mm awayfrom the main circuit wires and put them in separateducts to prevent noise and resultant malfunctions.Where control wiring crosses the main wiring, ensurethat they cross each other at right angles.

    4) For the wiring of the control circuit, use shielded ortwisted wires with the shortest possible length. (Whenusing shielded wires, connect one end of the shieldsto the inverter ground terminal and leave the otherend free.)

    5) If there is a magnetic contactor or a solenoid closeto the inverter, mount a surge killer to the coil in aparallel connection. Keep the wiring length to aminimum.

*1 When connecting the optional DC reactor, remove thejumper wire from between P1 and P(+).

Notes:1) This wiring diagram shows the connection for stopping

the inverter or setting frequency through externalsignals. When 1 is set at F01, you can set afrequency by using input signal from 0 to 10V DC.When 2 is set at F01, you can set a frequency byusing an input signal between 4 and 20mA. In thiscase, set 1 at F02.

    2) If there is a magnetic contactor or a solenoid closeto the inverter, mount a surge killer to the coil in aparallel connection. Keep the wiring length to aminimum.

    3) To wire the control circuit, use shielded or twistedwires. When using shielded wires, connect the shieldsto G.

    Application to standard motors

Torque characteristics and temperature riseWhen the inverter is used to operate a standardmotor, the temperature rises a little higher thanduring operation by a commercial power supply. The cooling effect decreases in the low-speedrange, reducing the allowable output torque. (If aconstant torque is required in the low-speed range, use a motor equipped with a separately ventilatingfan).

VibrationUse of an inverter does not increase vibration ofa standard motor, but when the motor is mountedto a machine, resonance may be caused by thenatural frequencies including the natural frequencyof the machine system. * We recommend thatyou use rubber coupling or anti-vibration rubber.* We also recommend that you use the inverterjump frequency control function to avoid resonancepoint in the motor operation.Note that operation of a 2-pole motor at 60Hz orover may cause abnormal vibration.

NoiseWhen an inverter drives a standard motor, themotor noise level increases compared with beingdriven by a commercial power supply. To reduce noise, set the inverter carrier frequencyat a high level. High-speed operation at 60Hz orover can result in more noise.

    Application to special motors

Explosion-proof motorsWhen driving an explosion-proof motor with aninverter, use a combination of a motor and aninverter that has been approved in advance. Suchapproved products are available in our specialproduct series. Contact Silectron Sistemi.

Submersible motors and pumpsThese motors have a larger rated current thanstandard motors. Select the inverter capacity sothat these motors can run within the inverter-ratedcurrent.These motors differ from standard motors inthermal characteristics. Set a small value accordingto the motors thermal time constant for settingelectronic thermal relay function.

Brake motorsFor motors with parallel-connection brakes, obtainthe brake power from the primary circuit(commercial power supply). If you connect thebrake power to the inverter power output circuitby mistake, problems may occur.Do not use inverters for driving motors equippedwith series-connection brakes.

Geared motorsWhen the power transmission mechanism usesan o i l - l ub r i ca ted gearbox o r speedchanger/reducer, continuous motor operation atlow speed may cause poor lubrication.

Synchronous motorsIt is necessary to use software suitable for themotor type.Contact Silectron Sistemi for details.

Single-phase motorsSingle-phase motors are not suitable for inverter-driven variable speed operation.Use a three-phase motor.* Even if a single-phase power supply is available, use a three-phase motor, because the inverterprovides three-phase output.

    Combination with peripheral device

Installation locationUse the inverter in an ambient temperature rangebetween -10 and 50C.Install an inverter on non-flammable material. The inverter and braking resistor surfaces becomehot under certain operating conditions.

Installing Auto Breaker (MCCB)Install Silectron Sistemi Auto Breaker (MCCB) orearth-leakage circuit breaker in the primary circuitof the inverter to protect wires.

Magnetic contactor in the secondary circuitIf a magnetic contactor is mounted in thesecondary circuit for switching to the motoroperation by commercial power supply or for anyother purposes, ensure that the inverter and themotor are stopped before you turn on or off thecontactor.

Magnetic contactor in the primary circuitDo not open or close the magnetic contactor inthe primary circuit more than once an hour.If frequent starts and stops are required duringmotor operation, send FWD and REV signals toand from the control terminal.

Protecting the motorWhen you drive a motor with an inverter, the motorcan be protected with an electronic thermal relayfunction of the inverter.

In addition to the operation level, set the motortype (standard motor, inverter motor). For high-speed motors or water-cooled motors, set a smallvalue as the thermal time constant and protectthe motor in combination with the cooling systemOFF signal.

When driving several motors with an inverter, connect a thermal overload relay to each motorand turn on the inverters electronic thermal relay.

If you connect the motor thermal relay to the motorwith a long cable, high-frequency current mayflow into the wiring floating capacity. This maycause the relay to trip at a current lower than theset value for the thermal relay. If this happens, lower the carrier frequency or use the output circuitfilter (OFL).

Power-factor correcting capacitorDo not mount the power-factor correcting capacitorin the inverter primary circuit. (Use the DC reactorto improve the inverter power factor.)Do not use the power-factor correcting capacitorin the inverter secondary circuit. Overcurrent tripwill occur, disabling motor operation.

Reducing noiseUse of filter and shielded wires are typicalmeasures against noise that meets EMCDirectives. For details, refer to the operationprocedure manual.

Measures against surge currentIf OV trip occurs while the inverter is stopped oroperated under a light load, it is assumed that thesurge current is generated by open/close of thephase-advancing capacitor in the power system.* Connect a DC reactor to the inverter.

Megger testWhen checking insulation resistance of the inverter, use a 500V megger and follow the instructionsdescribed in the instruction manual.

    Wiring

Control circuit wiring lengthWhen conducting a remote control, limit the wiringlength between the inverter and the operator boxto 20m or less and use twisted shield cable.

Wiring length between inverter and motorIf long wiring is used between the inverter andthe motor, the inverter will overheat or trip becauseof overcurrent (under the influence of high-frequency current flowing into the floating capacity)in the wires connected to the phases. Ensure thatthe wiring is shorter than 50m.If 50m must be exceeded, lower the carrierfrequency or mount an output circuit filter (OFL).

Wiring sizeSelect a cable with a sufficient capacity by referringto the current value or recommended wire size.

GroundingSecurely ground the inverter using the groundingterminal.

    Selecting inverter capacity

Driving standard motorSelect an inverter from the capacity range ofnominal applied motors shown in the inverterstandard specifications table. When large startingtorque is required or acceleration or decelerationis required in a short time, select an inverter witha capacity one class greater than the standard.

Driving special motorSelect an inverter that meets the followingcondition:Inverter rated current > Motor rated current

    Transportation, storage inverters

When transporting or storing inverters, select theprocedures and places that meet theenvironmental conditions given in the inverterspecifications.Ensure the above environmental conditions aremet also when transporting an inverter mountedto a machine.
