PARISH MISSION STATEMENT:
We are a Community of Disciples Gathering at the Banquet Table Joyfully Proclaiming Jesus Christ
Celebrating our Gifts of Prayer, Hospitality, Faith Formation and Service.
The rich and powerful are visited with woe and exile in
today’s Liturgy—not for their wealth but for their refusal to
share it; not for their power but for their indifference to the
suffering at their door.
The complacent leaders in today’s First Reading feast on
fine foods and wines, reveling while the house of Joseph,
the kingdom of Israel (see Amos 5:6), collapses around
them.
The rich man in today’s Gospel also lives like a king—
dressed in royal purple and fine linen (see 1 Maccabees
8:14).
The rich man symbolizes Israel’s failure to keep the Old
Covenant, to heed the commandments of Moses and the
prophets. This is the sin of the rulers in today’s First
Reading. Born to the nation God favored first, they could
claim Abraham as their father. But for their failure to
give—their inheritance is taken away.
The rulers are exiled from their homeland. The rich man is
punished with an exile far greater—eternity with a “great
chasm” fixed between himself and God.
In this world, the rich and powerful make a name for
themselves (see Genesis 11:4) and dine sumptuously,
while the poor remain anonymous, refused an invitation
to their feasts.
But notice that the Lord today knows Lazarus by name,
and Joseph in his sufferings—while the leaders and the
rich man have no name.
Today’s liturgy is a call to repentance—to heed the warn-
ing of One who was raised from the dead. To lay hold of
the eternal life He promises, we must pursue righteous-
ness, keep the commandment of love, as Paul exhorts in
today’s Epistle.
“The Lord loves the just,” we sing in today’s Psalm. And in
this Eucharist we have a foretaste of the love that will be
ours in the next life—when He will raise the lowly to the
heavenly banquet with Abraham and the prophets
(see Luke 13:28), where we too will rest our heads on the
bosom of our Lord (see John 13:23).

Thank You! Thank You!! Thank you soooo much to everyone for supporting my Operation Trail of Freedom project! As a reminder, I have been raising money to make Camp Sacajawea, here in Quincy, more accessible to people with disabili-ties. This is my Girl Scout Gold Award Project. Update: the pad around the fire ring has been poured and the fire ring constructed — most of the 200 foot trail has been poured — old tree stumps removed and ground leveled. Because of the enormous support, we are going to be able to add an additional concrete trail through the woods and we are also in the process of cleaning up the woods at the camp. Thanks again for your support and prayers!
I am still in need of help with a couple of things — Collecting Plastic Lids
I am collecting plastic lids to be recycled into benches for my project. Almost any type of lid will work — any plastic beverage lid (water/soda/tea/etc.), plastic food lids (yogurt/cool whip/etc.), plastic detergent, shampoo, lotion, etc. NO PLASTIC CONTAINERS — JUST LIDS!! Also, be sure they are clean. I will have a container in the new north entrance lobby area of St. Francis Church for you to deposit them. If you need me to pick them up, you can call or text — 217-770-2489. Thank You.
Labor — Woods / Property Clean-Up We are in need of help cleaning up the woods/property. A lot of trees have fallen that need to be cut up (chain saw) and then carried out of the woods, as well as smaller branches, raking, etc. This could be an individual, Scout group, school volunteer hours, etc. You will get dirty, sweaty, etc. There is poison ivy in the area. If you would like to help, please call or text 217-779-2489!
THANK YOU !! THANK YOU !! THANK YOU !!
From Grace Meyer
Keep your eyes open for an open house when we are complete — hopefully yet this fall!!

The world is at a historic crossroad. God is more offended than ever as people ignore Our Lady’s maternal request to “stop offending God”. Yes, we must listen to Our Lady’s request and stop sinning if we hope to enjoy God’s blessings and to avert His wrath. He will hear us, if we pray through the intercession of His Blessed Mother. That’s why we’re doing the 2019 Public Square Rosary Crusade.
In The Secret of the Rosary, St. Louis de Montfort said: “Public prayer is far more powerful than private prayer to appease the anger of God and call down His mercy, and Holy Mother Church, guided by the Holy Ghost, has always advocated public prayer in times of public tragedy and suffering.”

Respect Life Dinner Right to Life of Adams County again offers you the oppor-tunity to hear a great speaker and to support the pro-life cause. The 2019 annual Respect Life Dinner will feature Gwen and Brad Smith of North Carolina, who, for 15 years, hid the painful secret of their abortion from their friends and family. Today Gwen is a popular speaker who shares her story openly at conferences and retreats, and helps women find healing from mistakes of the past. Please invite your family, friends, and church members to join you and fellow pro-lifers for a motivating evening of learning more about the pro-life issues facing us today.
