10 TRÁMITES MATRIMONIALES

10.1 Requisitos para matrimonio civil entre extranjeros

• Llenar la solicitud de matrimonio que les proporcionara el registro civil

5. Dos testigos por contrayente, mayores de 18 años y de nacionalidad mexicana.

Deben presentar una copia de su credencial de elector.

6. Pagar los derechos correspondientes y llevar comprobante a la oficialía de su

preferencia $114.00 en el registro civil y $2360.00 a domicilio.

7. Si el servicio a domicilio fuese en una locación fuera de la jurisdicción del

registro, es decir, Periférico, Teya, Chichí Suárez , etc., se tiene que redactar una

solicitud dirigida al director del registro, especificando la fecha, hora y lugar

deseado. Entregarla en la oficialia No. 01.

10.2 Requisitos para matrimonio civil entre un extranjero y un mexicano

1. Presentar original y copia del acta de nacimiento de la pareja. La del extranjero (a)

debe estar traducida al español por un perito autorizado.

2. Original y copia de la identificación oficial con fotografía del mexicano.

3. Pasaporte del contrayente extranjero. Forma Migratoria vigente para acreditar su legal

estancia en el país.

4. Permiso de la Oficina de Migración de la Secretaría de Gobernación para que el

extranjero (a) contraiga matrimonio con el (la) mexicano (a).

5. Original de un certificado médico prenupcial con pruebas de V.D.R.L. (sífilis), V.I.H. (sida)

y RH (tipo de sangre), este certificado debe tener menos de 15 días.

6. Original y copia de la identificación oficial de dos testigos presentando identificación (el

formato lo proporciona la Oficialía)

10.3 Información Importante

Con 2 meses de anticipación se debe de ir al Registro Civil y seleccionar la fecha. Se

deben de realizar los análisis médicos estipulados, estos mismos se tienen que realizar en

algún laboratorio del estado de Yucatán y tendrán una validez de 15 días una vez

emitidos.

14 ATRACTIVOS TURÍSTICOS


Esta amplia avenida fue construida en homenaje al fundador de la ciudad de Mérida,

Francisco de Montejo y León. En 1904, fué inaugurado. Hoy día, a más de un siglo,

conserva sólo algunas de sus residencias originales, rodeadas por tiendas y oficinas de

todo tipo, bancos, hoteles, agencias de viajes, etc. Debido a los hoteles que están en la

avenida o en los alrededores, se ha convertido en una zona turística de gran vida

nocturna, nutrida por los numerosos restaurantes que ocupan buena parte de su

extensión.

Entre algunas de sus bellas casas podemos destacar

Este espléndido edificio de imponente arquitectura contemporánea, fue inaugurado el 6

de enero de 1999 para celebrar el 457 Aniversario de la fundación de Mérida. Con la

construcción de este recinto no sólo se recuperó el encanto visual de la Plaza Grande,

sino se brindó al público meridano y a los visitantes un espacio de esparcimiento donde es

posible gozar de toda clase de manifestaciones artísticas: teatro, danza, artes visuales,

ciencia y conferencias así como talleres y otras actividades académicas y del quehacer

cultural.


Ubicada en la calle 63 por 60 y 62 y construida en 1549. Fué morada del conquistador de

Yucatán y fundador de la ciudad de Mérida, Francisco de Montejo el Mozo. Lo único que

se conserva intacto de esta obra es su fachada y su pórtico de piedra esculpida. La parte

superior de la fachada es de estilo gótico isabelino, con una gran influencia indígena.

14.4 Catedral

19 años después de la fundación de Mérida (1542) en 1561, por petición del rey Felipe II,

se erigió en catedral a la iglesia de la capital yucateca y se le dio por titular, a San

Idelfonso, Arzobispado de Toledo. 37 años más tarde, se concluyó la edificación en 1598,

al cual se le agregaron posteriormente otros detalles. Su único adorno de orden civil, es el

emblema nacional mexicano de la época colonial. Se encuentra ubicada en la calle 60 x

61 y 57-A.


Se construyó como residencia de los Gobernadores y Capitanes generales de la provincia

de Yucatán. Es de arquitectura neoclásica, propia del S.XIX. Cuenta con una hermosa

escalera de piedra y de cantera, una réplica de la campana de Dolores. Actualmente

alberga las oficinas del gobierno del estado. En la planta alta se encuentra el Salón de

Actos, donde se presenta la historia de Yucatán en hermosas y grandes pinturas hechas

por el pintor Fernando Castro Pacheco.

Su construcción comenzó en el año de 1734. En este lugar se decidió la Independencia

de Yucatán de España. En 1871, se le colocó el reloj que fuera el primero de la ciudad de

Mérida. Aquí mismo se celebraban las festividades nacionales del 16 de septiembre y del 5

de mayo, hasta 1892 (Inauguración del moderno Palacio de Gobierno). Actualmente

alberga las oficinas del H. Ayuntamiento y la Presidencia Municipal de esta ciudad. Está

ubicado en la calle 62 por 61 y 63.


Se exhiben partituras originales de compositores como: Ricardo Palmerín, Guty Gutiérrez y

otros músicos regionales, además de objetos personales, partituras e instrumentos

musicales y también 50 óleos acompañados de pequeñas biografías de compositores,

poetas e intérpretes yucatecos.


Ubicado en la calle 60 por 57 y 57-A, este teatro debe su nombre al poeta, novelista,

dramaturgo, ensayista, médico y político yucateco José Peón Contreras (1843-1907). El

edificio es de estilo Neoclásico francés, inaugurado en 1908. Consta de un amplio salón

vestibular en el que destaca una escalera monumental de mármol de carrara.


Trazada desde la fundación de la ciudad, de conformidad con las instrucciones que el

Adelantado Don Francisco de Montejo dictó al hijo del mismo nombre (conocido como

―El Mozo‖) para ser el centro político de la nueva ciudad, este espacio público ha visto

desde aquellos lejanos días de 1542 el correr de la historia de Mérida. Durante el período

colonial, la Plaza Principal fue mercado público, lugar de corridas de toros, escenario para

aplicar penas corporales y ajusticiar cuando era necesario, además de ser un sitio donde

se realizaban torneos y festejos de interés general.


En donde antes estuvo el adoratorio del dios maya Itzamná, los conquistadores

levantaron, en 1572, una pequeña capilla; de la que aún se conserva la pila bautismal, y

más tarde edificaron el templo en donde se veneró por años al Cristo de las Esquipulas y

que estuvo dedicado a San Miguel Arcángel hasta 1944.


Está ubicado en la calle 59 por 50 en Mejorada, en el cual se puede admirar una

exposición sobre el arte y las costumbres mayas, así como de la actividad artesanal del

Estado de Yucatán. Tiene una tienda de artesanías en donde se pueden adquirir las más

variadas representaciones del Arte Popular Yucateco.


En el antiguo edificio teresiano (calle 60 X 53) estuvo la Escuela Secundaria Federal para

Hijos de Trabajadores, con internado, que abrió sus puertas al fines de abril de 1937. Hoy el

parque y edificio contemplan la música y baile tradicional que semana a semana

transcurre reuniendo a su vecindario novelescamente delicioso a su alrededor.

Antiguamente fué conocida como la ermita de nuestra señora del buen viaje,

posiblemente porque estando a la vera del camino real de Campeche, las diligencias, se

detenían brevemente en ella para rogarle a la virgen, allí albergada, que les

proporcionara buen fin la penosa travesía. Para visitar cuenta con un jardín botánico, con

cascada artificial propiedad del ayuntamiento.

15 TOURS

15.1 Chichén Itzá

Se encuentra al oriente de Yucatán, declarada recientemente como una de las 7

Maravillas del Mundo. Entre sus edificios más sobresaliente podemos admirar el Castillo de

Chichén Itzá, el Templo de los Guerreros, el Grupo de las Mil Columnas, la Plataforma de

Venus, el Tzompantli, el Juego de Pelota, El Caracol u Observatorio y la Iglesia.

15.2 Uxmal

En la zona sur del Estado de Yucatán en México se levanta extraordinaria la zona

arqueológica de Uxmal, declarada por la UNESCO Patrimonio de la Humanidad y una de

las zonas arqueológicas de la cultura maya más impresionantes de Yucatán. Uxmal es

conocida como ―la tres veces construida‖ y según cuenta la historia la ciudad fue

fundada por la tribu de los Xiues. Esta ciudad está conformada por unos 15 grupos de

edificios.

15.3 Dzibilchaltún

Considerada de las más antiguas, se ubica a 15 km de Mérida. Visite las pirámides y

basamentos como La Casa de las Siete Muñecas. Posee uno de los museos de la cultura

maya más completos de Yucatán. Cada 21 de marzo y septiembre se celebra el

equinoccio. Cuenta con un cenote para nadar.

15.4 Ek Balam

Tiene 45 estructuras y está rodeada por dos murallas concéntricas de piedra y otra más

que une los edificios centrales. Estas murallas tuvieron fines defensivos y para el control del

acceso. Tiene un juego de pelota, un arco muy hermoso donde desembocaba un sacbé

(camino sagrado), que en épocas antiguas conectaban los reinos mayas.

15.5 Kabah

Ciudad conocida como el segundo centro religioso más grande del estilo Puuc. Su época

de mayor apogeo, fue hacia el año 800 d.C. Se comunica con Uxmal por medio de un

sacbé que inicia justamente en ―El Arco‖, especie de puerta principal de la ciudad. Un

edificio de gran belleza es el ―Palacio‖, ubicado en un alta explanada que conforma un

cuadrángulo. El edificio más impresionante es el ―Palacio de los Mascarones‖, que

muestra su impresionante fachada compuesta por 250 mascarones del dios Chaac,

tallados en piedra y colocados en un magnífico barroquismo.

15.6 Sayil

Centro urbano de gran extensión, desarrollada entre los años 600 y 900 d.C. La distribución

de la ciudad está conformada por tres zonas: La primera es el núcleo del sitio ya que

incluye los edificios de la élite; la segunda, incluye residencias que alguna vez habitaron

los antepasados; y la última zona, se extiende hacia los asentamientos satelitales de

poblaciones que rendían tributo a Sayil.

15.7 Labná

Pequeña pero importante urbe maya, que alcanzó su esplendor entre los años 600 y 900

d.C. Esta conformada por un conjunto de edificios dispersos en un pequeño valle. Famosa

en el mundo por poseer una hermosa construcción Maya tallada en piedra: ―El Arco‖.

También podemos encontrar otros edificios importantes, como ―El Palacio‖ y ―El Mirador‖,

comunicados entre sí por un antiguo camino Maya.

15.8 Xcambó

Esplendido escaparate natural que combina apacibles playas y una zona arqueológica.

Ubicado cerca del puerto de Telchac (a 20 minutos de Uaymitún).

15.9 Progreso

Corazón de la Costa Esmeralda. Es un apacible puerto de veraneo y ofrece climas cálidos

en verano e invierno. Ofrece todos los servicios de una ciudad. Tiene una amplia costa

para practicar deportes acuáticos y natación. A lo largo del malecón se encuentran gran

variedad de restaurantes.


Pintorescos poblados de pescadores, aptos para la relajación. Práctica de deportes

acuáticos. Los principales atractivos son los esteros y manglares que facilitan el paso de

embarcaciones pequeñas y la pesca informal.

15.11 San Felipe

Puerto de pescadores, formado por rústicas casas de madera. Podrá caminar por el

malecón a lo largo del estero y admirar la belleza de la vegetación, así como también

visitar los islotes para tomar un merecido descanso.

15.12 Río Lagartos

Podrá visitar reservas naturales bajo protección, en donde se unen las aguas dulces de las

lluvias con el agua salina del mar para crear el hábitat de animales y plantas propios de la

15.13 El Cuyo

Pueblo de pescadores, zona protegida que alberga una fascinante e impresionante flora

y fauna. Este fantástico y escondido sitio se puede considerar una verdadera joya para los

amantes de la tranquilidad y la naturaleza. A tres horas y media de Mérida, y construido

sobre vestigios de una pirámide maya, se encuentra localizado este pequeño y

majestuoso pueblo

15.14 Celestún

Puerto donde conviven las especies más exóticas de la geografía yucateca, como el

flamenco rosa que ofrece un espectáculo en sus peculiares vuelos rasantes y se

reproduce naturalmente en el estero, después de largos viajes por la costa del oriente.

15.15 El palmar

Área protegida donde viven aves acuáticas migratorias, como el pato canadiense, que

invernan y se reproducen en la zona. Está considerada como una de las más importantes

reservas ecológicas del estado por su abundante flora y variada fauna, ideal para los

amantes del ecoturismo. Está ubicado a 80 km de Mérida.

15.16 Cuzamá

Famoso en la región por sus cenotes y la peculiar forma de visitarlos. El recorrido a través

de los cenotes se realiza en trucks, pequeños carros jalados por caballos a través de 7 km

en caminos llenos de maleza, agregando un increíble sabor de aventura.


Una de las pocas haciendas henequeneras que existen en plena producción. Recorrer sus

instalaciones representa una experiencia extraordinaria en la que belleza, confort y

aventura son los protagonistas de una travesía por el glorioso pasado peninsular. El

recorrido se realiza en plataformas de madera, jaladas por mulas, con ruedas metálicas.

Ubicada a 35 km al sur de Mérida a 12 minutos de Tecoh.


Uno de los conjuntos subterráneos más importantes de la región. Es una caverna que se

utilizó como centro ceremonial de los antiguos pobladores mayas. En su entrada se

encuentra el trono de Balam, que es una especie de altar y al cual se debe el nombre de

las grutas. También hay un lago semiseco donde yacían esparcidas ofrendas mayas,

conchas y trozos de jade. En esta gruta podrá disfrutar del espectáculo de luz y sonido, en

el cual se relata su historia. También hay un museo que cuenta con fotografías y cédulas

explicativas sobre los rituales sagrados que se practicaban en esta gruta. Se localiza a 6

km de Chichén Itzá.

15.19 Loltún

El recorrido empieza en la entrada de Nahkab, o colmena, donde se localiza el famoso

bajorrelieve conocido como El guerrero de Loltún, el cual parece estar emergiendo de las

grutas y se cree es el dios del inframundo. Otro atractivo de mucho interés son las pinturas

rupestres: en un muro se aprecian manos en negativo, en otro se localizan pinturas más

elaboradas que representan rostros, animales y grecas escalonadas. En las diversas salas,

galerías y recámaras —a casi 60 m de profundidad y a lo largo de más de 700 m de

extensión— se han encontrado diversas piezas arqueológicas, cerámica, artefactos de

piedra, conchas marinas, petroglifos, correspondientes a la cultura maya en sus distintas

etapas de desarrollo.

15.20 Oxkintok

Aquí se encuentra la estructura conocida como El Laberinto, que se piensa semejaba un

viaje al inframundo.Se localiza en la región más occidental del Puuc, a 70 km al sur de

Mérida, en el estado de Yucatán.


A este lugar también se le conoce como La ciudad de las tres culturas, pues combina

rasgos de su pasado prehispánico, del periodo colonial y de la época actual. Visite el

convento, que cuenta con museo en su parte interior y un adoratorio, además del

magnífico espectáculo de luz y sonido, cada martes, jueves, viernes y sábado,

comenzando a las 20:30 horas.

15.22 Valladolid

Es conocida como La perla del Oriente; entre sus atractivos están el imponente Convento

de San Bernardino, en su estilo franciscano; el Palacio Municipal y el Templo de San Juan

de Dios. Cerca se encuentra el cenote Zací, que ahora funciona como restaurante y

alberca natural. Durante su recorrido podrá encontrar artesanías de piel y henequén,

además de hamacas, tejido de bejuco y tallado de piedra, así como numerosos

restaurantes donde podrá degustar la deliciosa gastronomía vallisoletana. Se localiza a

160 km al oriente de Mérida.

10 MATRIMONIAL PROCEEDINGS / LEGAL REQUIREMENTS

10.1 Marriage requirements for foreigners

Fill out the marriage application provided by the Registry Civil Office

Submit:

1. Birth certificate of each of the prospective spouses.

2. Passport copy of each of the prospective spouses.

3. Migratory form’s copy

4. Both aplicant´s pre-nup medical test attached to a medical certificate, duly sealed

and signed by the laboratory responsible personnel. The certificate must include

pictures of both applicants and be valid at the moment of presenting (valid for 15

days since the issued day).

5. Two witnesses for each of the applicants, the must be older than 18 years and

Mexican citizens. They must also present a copy of their official picture

identification.

6. Payment of the according rights and submit corresponding receipt to the Office of

your preference, $114.00 at the Civil Registry Office and $2,360.00 at home.

7. If the service is at home in a location considered out of the Registries jurisdiction,

such as Periferico, Teya, Chichi Suarez, etc., an application addressed to the

Director of the Registry Office must be written, specifying date, time and place

where you wish to Celebrate the marriage, attaching a copy of the Mexican

applicant´s identification and the foreigner´s passport. You must turn it in at the

Registry Office Number 01

10.2 Foreigner with Mexican

1. Submit both applicant´s copy and original Birth Certificate. The foreigner´s should be

translated to Spanish by an authorized expert.

2. Copy and original official picture identification of the Mexican applicant.

10.3 Important information

With 2 moths anticipation the couple should attende to the civil registry and select the

date. The obligatory medical tests should be done in a laboratory in the state of Yucatan

and will have a 15 day validation (from less than 15 days) from the day issued.

14 TOURISTIC ATTRACTIONS


This majestic avenue was built in honor of Merida´s city founder, Francisco de Montejo y

Leon. It was partially opened in 1904. A century later it still preserves some of its original

mansions, surrounded by all kinds of shops, offices, banks, hotels, travel agencies, etc. It is

considered a great night club zone due to the hotels located in this area, furthermore

there are many restaurants giving this avenue an exquisite touch.

Some of the most beautiful houses are:

This splendid building of impressive contemporary architecture, was opened as the

Merida´s City Olimpo Cultural Center in January 6th of 1999 in order to Cellebrate the 457th

Anniversary of the foundation of Merida City. With this construction, not only the Great

Plaza recovered its enchanted vision, it also provided tourists and Meridians a recreational

space where they can enjoy all kinds of artistic attractions: theater, dance, visual arts,

science and conferences as well as workshops and other academic and cultural diverse

activities.


Located in 63rd Street by 60 and 62nd, it was built in 1549. Francisco de Montejo El Mozo,

Yucatan´s conqueror and founder used to live here. The only thing that remains untouched

of this architecture work is its front and stone carved porch. The front´s upper part is

Elizabethan´s Gothic style, with great native influence.

14.4 Cathedral

After King Felipe II request, the Yucatan´s capital church was named Cathedral in 1561, 19

years after the establishment of Merida City (1542), having San Ildefonso, Archbishopric of

Toledo as head of the church. 37 years later, in 1598, the construction was finished, with

some details added subsequently. The only civil decoration is the Mexican national

emblem from the colonial period. It is located in 60th Street between 61 and 57-A.


From the XIX century neoclassic architecture, it was built in order to be the house of

Governors and General Captains from the Province of Yucatan. In 1883 the original

building was demolished and a new one was build observing the original project. Its

construction ended in 1892. It has a beautiful limestone stairway, and a replica of the

Dolores Bell. It is actually house of the State´s Government offices. The auditorium is located

upstairs, where the history of Yucatan is displayed in large and beautiful Fernando Castro

Pacheco´s paintings.

Its construction started in 1734. This is where the idea of Yucatan´s Independence from

Spain started. In 1871 the first clock of Merida City was placed here. Also the National

festivities from September 16th and May 5th where Cellebrated in this building until 1892

when the new Government Palace offices were opened. These days it is house of the

offices of de City Hall and the Municipal Presidency. It´s located in 62nd Street by 61st and

63rd.

14.7 El Museo de la Cancion Yucateca

Diverse musical scores are displayed here such as: Ricardo Palmerin, Guty Gutierrez and

other regional musicians, it also holds personal objects, musical scores and instruments and

50 oil paintings along with some composers, poets and Yucatecan performers short

biographies.

14.8 Jose Peon Contreras Theater

Located in 60th Street by 57th and 57-A, this theater was named after Jose Peon Contreras,

who was born in 1843 and died in 1907, considered an important character in Yucatan´s

history, he was a poet, novelist, dramatist and politic. The building is Neoclassic French style

and was opened in 1908. It has a large lobby with a monumental stairway build of Carrere

marble.


It was designed since the city was founded, after Don Francisco de Montejo instructed his

son known as “El Mozo” to be the main politic place of the new city, this public area has

witnessed since 1542 Merida´s City history. During the colonial period the Plaza Principal has

been a public market, bull fight plaza, also corporal punishments and justice were applied

here when needed. Tournaments and festivities of general interest were Cellebrated here

as well.

14.10 Iglesia de Itzimna

The conquerors build in 1572 a small chapel where the Mayan God Itzamna´s Shrine used

to be edified. It preserves its baptismal font and later on they build the temple where the

Esquipulas Christ was worshiped for years and was dedicated to Saint Michael Archangel

until 1944.


It is located in 59th Street by 50th in Mejorada, here you can admire a Mayan art and

custom’s exhibition, and of the Yucatan´s art crafts activities as well. You can find a

craftwork shop with the most diverse representations of the Yucatecan Popular Arts.

14.12 Parque de Santa Lucia

The Federal Junior High & Boarding School for Workers was located in the ancient Theresian

building at 60th by 53rd Street and was opened to the public by the end of April of 1937.

Nowadays the park and building both contemplate the traditional music and dance that

week by week takes place in its beautiful areas reuniting this fabulous neighborhood and

its dreamlike surroundings.

14.13 Iglesia de Santa Isabel

It was known in the past as the Chapel of Our Lady of the Safe Trip, probably because

people on their way to Campeche use to stop here to pray to the Virgin for a safe trip

through the painful journey. You can find a botanical garden with an artificial waterfall

that is property of the City Government.

15 TOURS

15.1 Chichen Itza

Located at the East of Yucatan, it was recently stated as one of the 7 Wonders of the

Modern World. Among its most outstanding buildings we can consider The Castle of

Chichen Itza, The Temple of the Warriors, The Group of The Thousand Columns, The Platform

of Venus, The Tzompantli, The Ball Game, The Snail or Observatory and the Church.

15.2 Uxmal

This extraordinary archeological zone of Uxmal was edified at the South of Yucatan State

of Mexico, declared by the UNESCO a World Heritage area and considered one of the

most impressive regions of the Mayan culture of Yucatan. Uxmal is also known as “the three

times built” and as the story tells the City was founded by the tribe of the Xiues. It has

approximately 15 groups of buildings.

15.3 Dzibilchaltun

Located 9.5 miles from Merida, it is considered one of the oldest Mayan archeological

zones. Visit the pyramids and bases such as The House of The Seven Dolls. You can find one

of the most versatile Mayan cultures Museum in Yucatan. Every year the equinox is

Cellebrated on the 21st of March and September. It has an amazing water hole you can

swim in.

15.4 Ek Balam

It has 45 structures and is surrounded by two stoned concentric walls and one more that

join the central buildings. These walls had defensive purposes and were of great help to

control the access as well. You can find a ball game and a beautiful arch that used to

come out a sacred path (sacbe), connecting the Mayan kingdoms in old days.

15.5 Kabah

This city was known as the second biggest religious center of the Puuc style. Its zenith is

considered towards the year 800 a.d. It communicates with Uxmal by a sacbe or sacred

path that begins precisely in “The Arch” which is a kind of main door to the city. The Palace

is a building of great beauty located in the upper platform forming a square. The most

impressive building is the “Palace of the Masks” displaying it´s amazing front made by 250

masks of the God Chaac, carved in stone and worked in a wonderful baroque style.

15.6 Sayil

Urban center of great extension, developed between the 600 y 900´s a.d. This city is

organized in three zones: due to its elite buildings the first zone is considered the main site;

the second zone contains mansions where ancestors used to live in; and the last one

extends to the surrounding villages who worshiped Sayil.

15.7 Labna

Small but yet important Mayan Metropolis, achieved its greatest splendor by the 600 and

900´s a.d. It is made by a group of buildings scattered in a small valley. World-wide famous

due to its beautiful Mayan construction carved in stone called “The Arch”. We can also

find other important buildings such as “The Palace” and “The Viewpoint”, connecting

among them by an ancient Mayan path.

15.8 Xcambo

Considered a splendid natural showcase where peaceful beaches converge with

archeological zones. It is located near the Telchac seaport (20 minutes from Uaymitun).

15.9 Progreso

This is the Heart of the Emerald Coast. It is a summer peaceful seaport where you can enjoy

warm weather all summer and winter. It has all the big cities services and a long coast

where you can practice water activities and swimming sports. A great variety of

restaurants can be found along the Malecon.


A fishermen place full of local colors that seems to be made for the purpose of relaxation.

Here you can practice water sports. The main attractions are the estuaries and mangrove

swamps that facilitate boat trips and fishing activities.

15.11 San Felipe

Fishermen seaport made by rustic wooden houses. You will be able to take a walk along

the Malecon throughout the estuary admiring the natural beauty of the vegetal landscape

and visit the small islands to take a deserved rest as well.

15.12 Rio Lagartos

You will be able to visit natural reserves under protection, where fresh and salt water meet

in order to create the animal and plant typical habitat of this region, such as white tail

deer, alligator, pheasant and hundreds of bird species, true delight of those who practice

animal watching. It is located 138 miles from Merida City, considered an ideal site for

ecotourism attractions.

15.13 El Cuyo

Home of fascinating wildlife, this fishermen village is considered a protected area. A

fantastic hidden site, it becomes real paradise for those who love peace and nature. Three

and a half hours from Merida City, this impressive village was build over remains of a

Mayan pyramid.

15.14 Celestun

Seaport where the most exotic species of the Yucatecan geography coexist among each

other, such as the pink flamingo who offers an amazing flight show with its gorgeous colors

and beauty and naturally reproduces in the estuary.

15.15 El Palmar

It is a protected area home of migratory water birds such as the Canadian duck, which

hibernates and reproduces in this area. It is considered one of the main ecological reserves

of the State due to its excessive and diverse wildlife, perfect place for those who love

ecotourism activities. It is located 50 miles from Merida City.

15.16 Cuzama

Famous in the region due to its waterholes and the particular way people visit them. The

trip is done by trucks, which are small cars pulled by horses through a 4.5 mile way covered

by underbrush, with a great deal of venture.

15.17 Sotuta de Peon

It is one of the few Haciendas producing henequen in these days. This visit is one of the

most extraordinary experiences in which beauty, comfort and adventure will take you

through the glorious peninsular history. The journey is performed in wooden platforms with

metallic wheels pulled by mules. It is located 22 miles to the South of Merida City and is 12

minutes away from Tecoh.

15.18 Grutas de Balankanche

It´s considered one of the main underground cavern groups of the region. This cavern was

used as ceremonial center of the ancient Mayan villages. At the entrance you can notice

the Balam´s throne, which is a kind of altar named after one of the caves. You can also

find a semi-dry lake where Mayan offerings, shells and pieces of jade used to lie. You will

be able to enjoy the nightlight show as well where its history is told. You will learn about its

sacred rituals performed back in time by watching the pictures exhibited in a Museum at

the Cavern. It is located 3.7 miles from Chichen Itza.

15.19 Loltun

The travel begins at the entrance of the Nahkab or beehive, where the famous bas-relief

known as the warrior of Loltun is located, it seems to be emerging from the caves and it is

believed he´s the underworld God´s personification. The cave paintings are another

attraction of great interest as well: you can see negative hand impressions in a wall, and

others more elaborated at another, representing faces, animals and staggered borders. In

the diverse exhibition rooms, galleries and chambers – with almost .03 miles of depth and

more than .43 miles along the whole extension – diverse archeological pieces have been

found such as ceramic and stone items, sea shells and petroglyphs, all corresponding to a

Mayan culture in its different development periods.

15.20 Oxkintok

In this place you can find the structure known as The Laberinto, it was used to believe it was

a kind of journey to the underworld. It is located on the Western part of the Puuc zone, 70

miles to the South of Merida, in the State of Yucatan.

15.21 Izamal

Magic Village of Mexico. This place is also known as the City of the Three Cultures since

diverse features of its prehispanic and colonial periods converge with the richness of

today´s culture. Inside the convent you can find a museum and shine and a great light

and sound show every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday starting at 8:30 pm as well.

15.22 Valladolid

It is a known as the Orient Pearl; among its attractions, there is an impressive Franciscan

style Convent called San Bernardino; The Municipal Palace and the Temple of San Juan de

Dios. The Zaci waterhole is located nearby, which serves as restaurant and natural water

pool. Along the tour you will be able to find craftworks made of leather and henequen,

hamacs, a fabric made of a plant fiber called bejuco and stone carvings. Valladolid has

many restaurants where you can taste the delicious Valladolid´s gastronomy delights. It is

located 160 miles to the East of Merida City.
