Hello Friends!

As we celebrate the 22nd season of Wisconsin Lutheran College Fine Arts programs, I am thrilled to present an exciting season! I’m Loni Boyd, the new General Manager of Fine Arts Programming and Operations. While the title is new to me, many aspects of the role are not. I have served as the Fine Arts Events Manager for the past 10 years, and this marks my 12th season serving in the Center for Arts and Performance. I began my journey at WLC as a student and graduated with a degree in Theatre and Communication. I then worked as an actress, director, and talent agent in Milwaukee until the Lord directed my path back to WLC in 2006.

I believe in the power of the arts to change people, perspectives, and lives. That is why it is an honor for me to present a wonderful variety of arts experiences this season. Our students strive to cultivate their talents through our academic programs in Art, Music and Theatre. There are many opportunities for you to support these emerging young artists. We will offer several art exhibits in the Schlueter Art Gallery, more than 20 performances by our Music students in the Schwan Concert Hall, and more than 24 Theatre performances in the Raabe Theatre. Your support of these students encourages them more than you will ever realize.

I am also delighted to present world-class professional touring artists who will have an impact on our campus and community. Six Appeal Vocal Band, a dynamic ensemble of young men committed to education and outreach, will lead a master class for college and high school students. This will be a special opportunity for students to learn from professional vocal artists. Broadway superstar J. Mark McVey will share his experiences as a Christian in the arts with students. These are just two highlights of what is sure to be an electrifying season!

I invite you to join us in the Center for Arts and Performance. It is my desire that your time spent engaging in the live arts will renew your mind, ignite your heart, and energize your spirit.

Sincerely,

Loni BoydGeneral Manager of Fine Arts Programming and Operations

THE CHERRY SISTERS REVISITED

A Play with Music by Michael Friedman and Dan O’BrienDirected by Simon Provan

The Raabe Theatre will be transported back to the American vaudeville scene of the 1890s. One of the most interesting acts touring at the time was the Cherry Sisters – interesting in the way the opening rounds of American Idol were interesting. While not a full-fledged musical, this production – based on a true story – will feature the musical talents of our title characters, one of whom plays a mean bass drum!

PROOF

By David AuburnDirected by Simon Provan

Winner of the 2001 Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award for Best Play, Proof is set in the backyard of a University of Chicago math professor whose daughters and students have gathered for his funeral. Through present action and flashbacks, the story explores themes of genius and mental illness, intellectual rigor and research, family and legacy, and ultimately, trust versus evidence (proof).

RING ROUND THE MOON

By Jean Anouilh; translated by Christopher FryDirected by Jay Sierszyn

Called a “delicate, poetic mixture of farce, romance, and comedy of manners,” Ring Round the Moon is filled with characters who are in love, trying to get out of love, manipulating the love of others, and/or offering their observations on the subject. The occasion of gathering is a high-society ball hosted in a grand chateau – think Downton Abbey – and while Fry referred to his version as a “charade,” there are perhaps only winners at the end of this game.
