Cambrils is the second mostimportant town in the comarca,or region, of Baix Camp, in theheart of the Costa Daurada,surrounded by the Llaberia andPrades Mountain Ranges,whose gentle slopes roll downto the sea.

It currently has a population of32,000 inhabitants. The surfacearea is 34.76 square km, with auniformly flat orography and avery slight inclination of 2%towards the sea, a fact thatmakes the beaches extremelysafe for children.

Cambrils is connected to the AP-7 motorway, exit number 37,and the N-340 national road

(Barcelona-València) that cros-ses the municipality. There isalso a train station and it isclose to two international air-ports, with Reus 12 km awayand Barcelona a comfortable100 km. Furthermore, the city isnear the high speed train stationthat links Madrid and Tarragona.

The economy has traditionallybeen based on fishing and far-ming. The fishing port imbuesthe coast with warmth and per-sonality, along with the marina,which offers a great allure forvisitors. The land is anotheridentifying element of the muni-cipality. Thanks to the fruits ofthe sea and the land, the gas-tronomy of Cambrils has high-

The Cambrils Marina, one of the oldest onthe coast, was recently enlarged and nowhas berths offering the full range of servicesfor up to 417 crafts between 8 and 25 metreslong. The Port of Cambrils also has a 6,000m2 dry dock, a travel-lift that can hold up to150 tons, garages specialised in all mannerof repairs and its own fuel station. Clients canmoreover enjoy an excellent restaurant.

The fishing boats come into port between 4

pm and 5 pm (except in May and June, which

are the closed seasons for trawlers, and

December through February, which is the

closed season for light-boats). Watching their

arrival and the fish being brought to the market

make a stroll along the Cambrils wharf the

best way to enjoy an afternoon immersed in

a picturesque seafaring setting.

Le Club Nautique de Cambrils, un despremiers de la côte, a agrandi récemmentses installations pour offrir tous les servicesnécessaires à 417 amarres allant de 8 m à25 m de longueur. Le port de Cambrils disposed'une cale de 6.000 m2, d'un travelift allantjusqu'à 150 tonnes, des ateliers mécaniques,des spécialistes en tout genre de réparationset un fournisseur de combustible. Depuis peu,il a également mis un restaurant à la dispositiondes clients.

Ingredients:

Fish for the stock, 2 or 3 crabs,

small galera prawns (preferably with

roe), one tomato or paprika, water,

potatoes (diced), onions, garlic,

noodles or rice, oil, salt

Preparation of the stock:

Clean the fish. Add the following to

a cold pan: oil, 2 cloves of garlic,

onion, crabs and galera prawns (if

possible with their roe). Fry lightly

and add tomato or a pinch of paprika

(for colour). Continue to fry until

everything is well cooked. Add water

and the parts of the fish that take

the longest to cook. Bring to a boil.

Add the rest of the fish and the

potatoes. Cook for about 15 minutes

over high heat. When the potatoes

are done, the stock will be ready.

Strain and set to one side.

Preparation of the fideos 'rossos'

or 'rossejat': Add the following

ingredients to a cold pot: oil, 2 or

3 cloves of garlic (peeled), noodles

or rice. Add the previously-prepared

stock. Add salt, if necessary. Allow

to cook, checking frequently.

Suggestions:

Both dishes should be served hot

and freshly made.

Accompany with a good aioli.

RECIPE“FIDEUS ROSSOS”

RECETTE“FIDEUS ROSSOS”

Ingrédients :

Poisson pour le fumet, une tomate ou un

poivron rouge, eau, pommes de terre,

oignons, gousses d'ails, vermicelles ou riz,

huile, sel

Préparation du fumet :

Nettoyez le poisson. Dans une casserole,

introduisez : l'huile, 2 gousses d'ail, l'oignon,

2 ou 3 crabes, des petites squilles (si possible

avec leurs œufs). Frire le tout et ajoutez-y la

tomate ou un peu de poivron rouge (pour

donner de la couleur), puis faites dorer le

tout. Ajoutez l'eau et une partie du poisson

(celui qui prend plus de temps à cuire).

Laissez bouillir pendant quelques minutes.

Ajoutez le restant du poisson et les pommes

de terre coupées en morceaux. Laissez

bouillir pendant 15 min. environ à feu fort.

Lorsque les pommes de terre sont cuites,

le fumet est prêt. Passez le fumet par une

passoire et réservez-le.

Préparation des « fideus rossos » ou du

riz « rossejat » :

Dans une casserole, introduisez de l'huile, 2

ou 3 gousses d'ail pelées, des vermicelles

ou le riz. Ajoutez le fumet que vous avez

réservé. Vérifiez l'assaisonnement de sel,

laissez cuire et surveillez.

Suggestions : Les deux plats doivent être

servis chauds et directement après leur

préparation. Ils peuvent être accompagnés

d'une délicieuse sauce ailloli.

RECEPT“FIDEUS ROSSOS”

Ingrediënten:

Vis voor de bouillon, één tomaat of rode

peper, water, aardappelen, ajuinen,

lookteentjes, noedels of rijst, olie, zout

Voorbereiding van de bouillon:

De vis schoonmaken. Een kookpot koud

wordt gevuld met wat volgt: olie, 2

lookteentjes, ajuin, 2 of 3 krabben, kleine

strandkreeftjes (als het kan met kuit). Lichtjes

bakken en een tomaat toevoegen en een

beetje rode peper in poeder (om te kleuren),

alles goed gebakken. Water toevoegen en

een deel van de vis (die welke langst koken

moet). Laat een tijdje koken. De rest van

de vis toevoegen en de aardappelen (in

stukjes versneden). Ongeveer een kwartirer

laten koken op laag vuur. Als de aardappel

zachtgekookt is, is de bouillon klaar. We

zeven alles en bewaren de bouillon apart.

Voorbereiding van de noedels “rossos”

of de “rossejat” rijst:

In een koude pot, brengen wij: olie, 2 tot 3

gepelde lookteentjes, noedels of rijst. De

bouillon bijvoegen die we hebben

behouden. Bijzouten. Laten koken, zonder

uit het oog te verliezen.

Suggesties:

Beide gerechten dienen warm en

versgekookt te worden opgediend.

Zij kunnen steeds vergezeld worden van

een lekkere “aioli” saus (soort look-

mayonnaise).

The origins of Cambrils goback to the prehistoric times,although it was not until theRoman period that the popu-lation of the Cambrils weknow today began to grow.The foundations of what thetown centre would be weresettled in the 12th century.The area was also well com-municated by sea, proof ofwhich is the fact that in 1229the troops of James I sailedfrom these beaches to re-conquer Majorca. The town'svitality was seriously disrup-ted in 1640, when Cambrilssuffered one of its worst epi-sodes in the Guerra delsSegadors (War of theReapers). Faced with a farsuperior army, the populationof Cambrils withstood a terri-ble siege that lasted threedays. Unfortunately, this isone of the most importantevents in the town's history,reason for which it is comme-morated year in the Plaça delSetge (siege square). Thanksto the construction in the

17th century of the PortTower, the present port quar-ter began to be occupied bythe fisherman's families whosettled and build their hou-ses. The harbour which isone of the most emblematicsites of the current Cambrils,was built towards the end ofthe 20th century. There isa small parish cemetery here,which the inhabitants use ofBarenys, Salou, Vila-seca,Vilafortuny and other smallneighbouring villages, due to itseasy access along the RoyalRoad. Son emplacement, à côté duport et face à la plage, fait delui un des endroits les plusfréquentés par les touristes etvisiteurs. La superficie du parcest d'environ 5.000 m2. Dupoint de vue de la jardinerie, ils'agit d'un parc mixte dotéd'une zone méditerranéennedans la partie sud et d'unezone tropicale dans sa partiecentrale.Le parc dispose detrois zones ludiques pour lesenfants et d'une scène où sontréalisées de nombreusesactivités musicales et festives,pourvue de vestiaires et d'unbar. La zone la plus intime duparc est l'étang entouréd'eucalyptus.

09. Kasteel vanVilafortunyEen gebouw dat als cultureelerfgoed van nationaal belanggeklasseerd staat. Het is vandefensieve en militaire aard endateert uit de 12de eeuw. Hetwas de kern van een oudleenheergebied dat een eigenbeleid gekend heeft tot de19de eeuw. Het kasteel staatop een heuvel, als het ware inhet landschap genesteld. 10. Kerk en Hoeved'en BoschZetel van de parochie vanVilafortuny.
