Technical Program

For Oral presenters All oral presenters are requested to bring their USB memory sticks or CD-ROMs containing your PowerPoint files as a precautionary back up. 10 minutes before the start of the session, presenters must take their USB memory sticks or CD-ROMs to the PC operation desk inside the conference room. Basically, the time allocated for each presenter is 15 minutes. This includes 10 minutes presentation, and 5 minutes discussion from the audience. If necessary, presenters can check beforehand that their presentation files can work without any trouble. Please bring your USB memory stick or CD-ROM to the symposium office half days before your presentation.

For Poster Presenters Display of Posters: September 9-11, 15:00-15:50 Please check your presentation space and display your poster on the panel by 11:00. ⇒See p.36 Be sure to remove your posters after you finish your presentations at 15:50. If you are left displays, the secretariat will dispose them at 17:30. *Poster size: 1.8 m (height) x 1.2 m (width) *Drawing pins will be provided. Bring your poster only.

For Moderators (including organizers) Moderators are expected to take control of the session keeping in time allocated to each presenter. Please confirm presenter’s names, affiliations and number of the presenters. Make sure to keep to the time limit of 15 minutes per presenter (10 minutes for presentation, 5 minutes for discussion). However, moderators can divide 90mins by the number of the presenter for ensure the session runs to the scheduled time. The order of presentation is as listed on the program.

A theme park of the paper in the production center of Mino Washi proud of traditional history of 1300. Kyu Imaike Jyutaku

In Mino known for a long time as a production center of Washi, there were much paper merchants. The Imais ran a Washi wholesale dealer until about 1941. The one of the merchant's families representing Mino as a house with “Udathu” is the Imais. (Udathu = fire wall)

Technical Visit The organizing committee have arranged two courses, A and B (see next pages), and you can choose one of them. This program is optional (JPY 8,000). If you want to participate to the program you should register at the registration desk, where you can receive a card to indicate your choice. For the participants who already pay for the technical visit, a choice card can be found in your name tag. Tokuyama Dam

This is recently completed biggest dam of rock-fill type. The total storage of water is around 60milion cubic meter.

Such big storage for flood control plays a major role on flood risk management. There is a plan to construct a diversion from the Ibi to the Kiso river against draught and for integrated water resources management by utilizing water resources developed by this dam.

Yokoyama Dam

This dam is a concrete hollow gravity dam in 1964, This type of dam is not popular even in Japan. You can enjoy to visit the space inside the dam which is utilized for several events like concerts.

The sedimentation of the reservoir was dredged and utilized for construction of Tokuyama dam. After Tokuyama dam was completed, these dams are operated systematically.

We will visit two dams: Tokuyama dam and Yokoyama dam along the Ibi river. The Ibi river is one of the three rivers of the Kiso river system. And these two dams play important roles for flood control, water resources development and environmental requirements (environmental flow release).

Nagaragawa Estuary Barrage

Because there were few places to prepare the dam in the Nagara River basin for flood control, the river bed should be dredged. While, salt water ascends upstream threaten the water resource. Thus, Nagaragawa Estuary Barrage was constructed and now is in operation, after long and hard discussions to solve environmental issues.

Aqua Restoration Research Center

Aqua Restoration Research Center performs fundamental and applied studies for natural environments conservation and the restoration of rivers and wetlands. The purpose of it is wide, and it is spreading the useful results.

Nagaragawa Estuary Barrage & Aqua Restoration Research Center & Kiso Sansen National Government Park (Water Eco Park)

Because Kiso Sansen River Complex (Kiso, Ibi and Nagara River) became the deluge by a heavy rain from old days and damaged neighboring people, various river works were necessary to support the citizen living around there. Traditional technology changed to modern and then advanced one with solving various problems including environmental issues.

Kiso Sansen National Government Park (Water Eco Park)

Japanese largest National Government Park that straddles Aichi, Gifu, and Mie Prefectures.The “Water Eco Park” consists of some facilities such as National government park, Gifu prefecture park, etc.

How to drink a cup of Japanese tea

Bow when a Japanese-style confection is served to you.

Pick up a confection with your hand and enjoy it. A toothpick is served with the confection.

Pick up the cup carefully with your right hand and support the bottom of the cup with your left hand.

Hold the cup in front of your face. This action represents your respect for the cup of tea and also for the host who prepared the cup and ceremony for you.

Drink a cup of tea ideally with three sips. In the final sip, taste the last drop of tea in the cup.

Clean the rim of the cup with fingers of the right hand.

Rotate the cup twice anti-clockwise so the front of the cup faces you.

Admire the cup. You can use your hand but treat the cup carefully because the cup is fragile and sometimes quite expensive.

To express gratitude to them holding the ceremony, bow deeply to the host at the conclusion of the ceremony.

Rotate the cup one quarter turn clockwise in two steps.This action means that you are modest enough to drink from the side face of the cup, instead of the front face of the cup.
