Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) was established on 1 January 1996, through a restructuring of the University in Trondheim. The foundation of the University was three well-established institutions, namely the Norwegian Institute of Technology (NTH), the College of Arts and Sciences (AVH) and the Museum of Natural History and Archaeology (VM). The new university also included the Faculty of Medicine (DMF), the Trondheim Conservatory of Music (MiT), and Trondheim Academy of Fine Art (KiT).
Streets at Gløshaugen, Tyholt and Dragvoll are named after Rectors from the former NTH and the Norwegian Teachers’ College in Trondheim (NLHT), precursor of AVH.
The picture at the top shows NTH around 1930. Below is NLHT at Rosenborg in 1975. The buildings at Rosenborg were abandoned in 2000 and demolished in 2003.
