Wow, how time does fly! We hope you had an enjoyable, relaxing summer. It’s hard to believe Halloween and cooler temperatures are right around the corner.
The Gutterman team stayed very busy this summer cleaning lots of gutters after the heavy June rains, and installing several detailed roofing projects, including a beautiful metal roof in Arlington for the Lamson family. (Please see the article and photos on page 3 of this newsletter.)
Last but not least, we are excited to share the news that we have launched another division of our company, DECK REDO. If your deck is looking a little tired and in need of some TLC or a complete makeover, now you can REDO rather than rebuild. The DECKREDO.COM web site is almost complete and will showcase before and after photos, options for new rail systems, cool screening options and the latest options of epoxy and stains available. So if you are considering rebuilding your deck this winter, call Gutterman to discuss your project.
Gutterman kicked off the start of fall by participating in the Special Olympics Plane Pull at the Dulles Airport on September 14th. This was the 5th year we participated in this event with our 25 person team to pull the FEDEx Cargo jet. We are proud to announce we exceeded our fundraising goal, raising $2000 and pulled the plane in 9.2 seconds beating last years pull of 11.6 seconds! We appreciate all the support you've given us over the years!

Gutters are one thing on your home that many times gets little to no maintenance. Whether you r home i s d i r ec t l y surrounded by trees or in a new development, you need to maintain your gutters at least one time per year. The obvious is that tall trees will create clogged gutters and therefore chances for water to overflow over the gutters and get inside your home.
But even if you don't have trees, periodically your gutters need to
be re-secured to the house, properly sloped and checked for leaks in seams and corners. In the winter months, gutters have snow and ice accumulation and the additional weight can cause the gutters to pull away from the fascia board they are hung on. This is why cleaning and re-tightening is so critical both before winter and then again in the spring to prepare your home for the onslaught of heavy rain storms.
Routine maintenance on your home can greatly reduce any unexpected costly repairs or replacements. We recommend a minimum of twice yearly gutter cleaning for standard open gutter. To make cleaning your gutters easier we offer a yearly service contract for 2-4 cleanings a year depending on your needs.

Magicicada Swarmageddon!This summer we met the Lamson family originally from Iowa. They really know how to renovate for optimal energy efficiency. The family loves their 1950 split level ranch home and decided that every improvement they make to the home must be done with a strong sense of energy efficiency. So when it came time to replace the roof they knew who to call. We worked with Brian Lamson to design a new retro fitted roof deck that allows for maximum ventilation and incorporates an aluminum barrier that minimizes the suns heat penetration into the home. The new roof system is 20x1" double locked standing seam metal in a Champagne color from Peterson Aluminum. The roof is a "cool color" reducing heat transmission by up to 30%. Tech-deck Low E aluminum coated OSB sheathing was selected for the retro fit roof deck as it provides 1" of clear air flow from the vented drip edge and soffit area up to the roofs peak ridge vent. The aluminum underside of the sheathing doesn't let the heat of the sun penetrate into the home’s vaulted ceiling living spaces.
Lamson also removed the drop ceiling in the home, upgraded to spray foam insulation and installed new vaulted ceilings for a much more usable open space.
The new roofing system and insulation upgrades keep the home very cool even in the 100+ days in July while we were out there working on the job. These are the types of projects we enjoy collaborating with the homeowners on to provide optimal performance and long term cost saving solutions.

We have old screens on the gutters and many trees and the gutters had not been cleaned in about a year. In recent months during downpours, we had noticed water flowing over the gutter that runs along the back of the house -- not a good sign. We were able to schedule the cleaning within a week of calling. Mauricio and Bayron arrived on time and were professional and thorough. Because of the screens, the work required extensive flushing of the gutters and clearing near the downspouts. All the refuse was taken away. This morning, during a constant rain, I heard a nice sound -- the metallic gurgling of water in the gutters. We hadn't heard this in a while. It was a sure sign that the cleaning had been done properly and conscientiously.

They noticed that the gutters were incorrectly installed on the front fascia, because the drainage slope did not allow the water to flow to the outlets.
