Scheduled Rides and Events
A fter three months the Chapter I members and guests finally had a meeting. We did not
have a November or December meet-ing because of the holidays and Janu-ary’s meeting was canceled because of bad weather. So today was special for Janet and myself. We were finally able to see a lot of our members and friends in the same room at the same time.
We had a good meeting today that was followed by a planning meeting for next year. Dave Smith did a great job of planning our 2nd Saturday and 4th Saturday after meeting rides. All of our rides will be great rides through our scenic mountains with planned activi-ties and a safe ride home. Dave and Johnny are planning a special four day men’s ride and Janet has planned a three day ladies trip to White Sulfur Springs West Virginia.
For friends night out Janet has reserva-tions at restaurants in Asheville, Hen-dersonville and Waynesville that should accommodate everyone with a special night out so they do not always
have to ride or drive a long way to spend an evening with friends and have a good meal.
Chapter I will again escort the Triath-lon at Lake Logan, thanks to Jerry Pitts relationship with the race organizers. If you are able to be an escort on either a bike or trike please let Jerry know. As in the past we will have a pre-ride for everyone that volunteers as an escort.
Janet and I think that Chapter I had a great year last year and thanks to our special members and friends we be-lieve that this year will be even better.
Ride Safe,

Safety Tip of the Month
T he weather is beautiful; the sun is shining giving its warmth. There are a few
clouds floating by and the temp is fantastic.
You get on your wing and ride to your favorite restaurant that is 75 miles away for dinner. It is a great day and you linger a little longer than normal. Looking at your watch, or cell phone, you realize that you need to head for the barn but it will still be dark when you get in. That’s ok because it has been a great day.
As you walk into the parking lot
you can’t help but notice that the wind has picked up a lot since you arrived. Those few white puffy clouds have now turned into a bunch of black clouds and there isn’t any sunshine showing. The temps have started to drop.
You throw your leg over the seat, fire up the engine and take off. Fif-teen miles down the road it starts to get a lot colder. There is the smell of rain in the air. You don’t want to stop but you just have to put on your jacket.
You pull over and pop the saddle-bag. “OH NO!” It was so pretty that you forgot to bring a jacket. The ride home gets longer and longer. The temps go down and the rain starts. You are cold and miser-able. You keep asking yourself over and over, “Why didn’t I pack my jacket?” You finally arrive home, wet and cold.
Jackets have come a long way.
Some of us still wear the old tried and true leather jackets. They have the zip out liners and will keep you warm no matter how cold it gets.
Most have vented sleeves, fronts and backs. They are fairly heavy and get really soaked in the rain, which can take a long time to get dried out.
Many of the newer jackets are multi-layered. They have warm liners, wind breakers and rain protection. All of which can be removed to provide different comfort levels for different riding conditions. They come in a variety of colors to match your Wing and have reflec-tive piping which makes you more visible at night. They come with armor plating in the shoulders, el-bows and back for additional pro-tections.
Don’t be the guy who left his jacket in the garage. Always take a jacket with you no matter what.
Dress for the ride. Dress for the slide.
First scheduled chapter NC-I ride will be April 14.
