When the question is asked “What is an asset management system?”

Most staff would respond. “It is the software that is used to manage our organisations assets”.

Others with more exposure to asset management theory would respond.“It is the Asset Management Framework governing our asset management practices and processes including, software, policies, business processes, asset data hierarchy”.

As asset managers we need to get every staff member to become part of the Asset Management Framework “no finger pointing – everyone is involved in asset management. How can this be done? (PD, Training, Champions etc.)

Implementation• Progress Claims - Review and challenge progress claims.• Specification requirements - Refer to detail on a continual basis.• Programming of project - Keep on top of it.• Internal resources – make sure there is backup representatives.• Industry supplier’s – keep up knowledge of developments, not just your

selected supplier.• Existing users – We are one now. Collaborate, exchange ideas.• Software suppliers resources – induct replacement resources.• Deployment and training – working in with ICT and other training programs.• Supplier support – provide continual feedback to improve.

Integration - GRC in currently in the process of integrating myData/GIS and Finance

Some principles we need to look at.• Asset Management Framework – review, amend and endorse. Not just

software.• Business processes – adjust to reflect software integration.• End users – Training, change in culture.• Integration requirement – myData/Authority/Intramaps.• Cost – reduction in cost due to integration, initial costs out way long term

gains.• Infrastructure – assess existing to identify needs, e.g. servers, hardware.
