1 st Annual H. Bruce Williams Pediatric Surgical Research Day at the MCH Dr. Bruce Williams was born in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. He completed his Bachelor of Arts Degree at Acadia University and then entered Medical School at McGill University, graduating in 1955. Dr. Williams completed his internship and residency in the McGill University teaching hospitals. He was awarded a McLaughlin Travelling Fellowship and spent one year of postgraduate training in England, Sweden, and Russia. Dr. Williams is Board certified through the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons, Canada, and the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Dr. Williams is a Professor of Surgery at McGill University and was Chairman of the Division of Plastic Surgery and Director of the Residency Program at McGill from 1976 – 1996 and was reappointed as Residency Program Director in 2002. Over 100 residents have graduated from the Program during his tenure, many of whom completed a year of research under his guidance. He was Surgeon-in-Chief at The Montreal Children’s Hospital from 1992 – 2007. Dr. Williams has been internationally recognized for his outstanding contributions to the field of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery receiving many awards including Distinguished Service Awards from Acadia University and the Plastic Surgery Educational Foundation. He received the Ambassadors’ Club Award and Agora Trophy from the Montreal Convention Centre, the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons and was honoured by his peers at The Montreal Children’s Hospital with the Council of Physicians, Dentists, and Pharmacists Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Williams received both the Clinician of the Year Award and The Honorary Award (their most prestigious award) from the American Association of Plastic Surgeons. His major interests have included basic laboratory research, microsurgery and hand surgery. He has been a Visiting Professor to over 70 different universities and societies throughout the world. Dr. Williams has contributed over 130 articles and book chapters to the field of Plastic Surgery. He is Past President of many societies including the Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery, and the International Microsurgical Society. He is the only Canadian to be elected President of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Dr. Williams has two sons, Bruce (Beatrijs) and David (Bethany) and five grandsons. June 7, 2010 H. Day at the MCH

Dr. Bruce Williams was born in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. He completed his Bachelor of Arts Degree at Acadia University and then entered Medical School at McGill University, graduating in 1955.

Dr. Williams completed his internship and residency in the McGill University teaching hospitals. He was awarded a McLaughlin Travelling Fellowship and spent one year of postgraduate training in England, Sweden, and Russia. Ronald M. Zuker, MD, FRCSC, FACS, FAAP, FRCSEd (Hon.)Plastic Surgeon, SickKids Hospital

Ronald Zuker was born in Niagara Falls, Canada and received his MD degree from the University of Toronto in 1969. After a rotating internship in Vancouver, BC and a brief period of family practice

in Scarborough he pursued his interest in Anthropology and Jungle Medicine, spending one year working with the Shipibo Indians in the Amazon basin – eastern Peru. He then entered the McGill University Training program in Surgery and completed the FRCSC in Plastic Surgery in 1976 through the Gallie Programme at the University of Toronto. He received a one year McLaughlin Travelling Fellowship to study microvascular surgery and paediatric plastic surgery in Japan, New Zealand, Australia and Europe. In 1978 he joined the staff of The Hospital for Sick Children as a consultant in Plastic Surgery and was appointed to the Department of Surgery of the University of Toronto as a lecturer in surgery in 1978. Dr. Zuker was promoted to Assistant Professor in 1982, Associate Professor in 1987 and Full Professor in 1994. He served as Chief of the Division of Plastic Surgery at SickKids from 1986-2002.

As a paediatric plastic and reconstructive surgeon, his primary interest is in facial reanimation and he is the recognized worldwide authority. Dr. Zuker is currently co-director of the Facial Paralysis Programme at Sickkids. He also has a major interest in the management of cleft lip and palate and serves on the Plastic Surgery Council of the International Volunteer Organization “Operation Smile”. He was Medical Director of SickKids Cleft Lip and Palate Program for over a decade.

Dr. Zuker is the past Chairman of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Section of Plastic Surgery, past president of the American Association of Pediatric Plastic Surgeons, and past president of the American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery. He is very active in teaching and in the training of future reconstructive surgeons.

His clinical focus is on Moebius syndrome, facial paralysis reconstruction, tissue expansion in children, sarcoma reconstruction and cleft lip and palate.

He has lectured widely and is sought after as a visiting professor at national and international academic centres.
