“UDDERFLY ” PUPPETH Download* the “Udderfly” template and print it

out on regular-weight paper.

H Help the kids color and cut out the “Udderfly” image.

H Turn the image over and line up the drinking straw down the middle of the “Udderfly” and tape it in place (so the end hangs from the bottom for a handle).

H Now fly! The paper will flutter when you move the puppet back and forth through the air.

ACTIVITY #1

ACTIVITY #2MAKE YOUR OWN MAGNET AND COLORING STATION

H Download* the Perfect Piggies! pig-and-balloon pattern sheets and print them out in color on card stock (or other heavier- weight paper).

H Cut string into 3-inch pieces.

H Help kids cut out the patterns and personalize their pigs and balloons by writing their names or initials where indicated.

H Using a hole punch, make holes in the small circle at the bottom of the balloon, as well as the two circles on the pig’s body.

H Connect the balloon to the pig with string.

H Dab some craft glue onto two magnets; stick one on the back of the balloon, and one on the back of the pig. Voilà—instant fridge art!

H Coloring sheets are also available as downloads.* All you need are crayons, magic markers, or colored pencils.

ACTIVITY #4

BOYNTON BINGOH Download* the Boynton Bingo cards and

call sheet.

H Cut up the call sheet and put the squares into a hat or bowl.

H Hand one bingo card to each child (each child should receive a different card).

H Assign a “caller” to pull out one call square, describe the image, and show it to the children. Use cut-up pieces of paper as bingo markers; kids should place a marker on the called image if it is on their card.

H Explain to the kids that when a row is covered in any direction on their card, the child calls out “BINGO!”

ACTIVITY #3BARNYARD DANCE!

HOEDOWNH Download* the sheet music for the “Barnyard Dance”song. (The

CD is available in the book–and–CD Rhinoceros Tap—or make up your own tune!)

H Gather the children into a circle for a Barnyard Dance and hand out any music-makers (drums, shakers,

recorders, spoons—get creative with home-style instruments!). You might teach the kids a few

animal-themed actions (waggle hands for sheep ears, horse tails, rooster

combs, and chicken wings) and/or encourage animal noises when prompted! The dance itself is easy as long as the dancers listen to the “caller’s” directions.

PERFECT PIGGIES! SING-ALONG

H Download* the sheet music for the “Perfect Piggies” song.

H Then print out copies and hand them to the kids—along with any music-makers you may have on hand (drums, shakers, recorders, spoons—get creative with home-style instruments!).

H Turn your crowd into Perfect Piggies by providing them with rubber pig noses! (Try these websites to buy in bulk: www.halloweenstore.com, www.amazon.com, www.centurynovelty.com.) OR, have the kids make their own noses with pink construction paper or felt and elastic string!

H Play the “Perfect Piggies” song (available for download from www.workman.com, and also on the CD included with Rhinoceros Tap), and let the dance party/sing-along begin!

SIMON SAYS: GITCHY GOOH Invite the kids to gather in a group and sit cross-legged on the floor,

facing an adult or older child. Before the game begins, explain that in this game the leader, Simon, will ask the kids to perform various actions. The goal is to do something only when Simon says so, and to do nothing when he doesn’t.

H Take lines from Tickle Time! to begin—Simon says: Tickle high! As the game continues, challenge the players by giving instructions more quickly to catch them

off-guard. You can also combine your instructions—Simon says: Tickle low and fast! The game is over

when one player remains, or when everybody has collapsed

from laughter.
