No 7 Term 2 10th - 14th June 2019

Kia ora Tatou,

This week I have been very pleased to see resilient children in the playground who can seek alternative play

activities when their first choice is not available. Many of our children are also taking on the responsibility of

trying out different activities and games alongside new/different groups of friends. These are great examples of

our students ‘living by’ our values in the school!

Matariki Breakfast

We are currently learning about Matariki alongside our Kura Ahurea, Te Reo Maori programme.

Our Whanau group are helping us to hold a Matariki Celebratory Breakfast on Wednesday

19 June from 7:30am. We invite all of our whanau and community to join us in the school hall for breakfast

and to share in our learning.

The organisation is as follows:

● 7:30am: Official welcome into the hall.

● 7:30am : 8:15am: Breakfast available for whanau.

● 8:30am: Everyone in the hall for korero and waiata.

Note: Children will say a Karakia with their whanau before eating. When your family has finished eating, the

children will share their learning in the classroom. We look forward to seeing everyone back in the hall at

8:30am to finish our celebrations. Please bring bowls, plates, cutlery and cups for your whanau.

Bring and Buy

Tomorrow (Friday 14 June) is our first Bring and Buy for 2019. This is a very popular event in which our senior

students provide a gala environment for everyone to become ‘consumers’ for a day. Everyone is welcome to

join us from 11:30am - 12:30pm in and around the school hall.

Board of Trustee Elections

Thank you to all of the Nominees who put their names forward for our Board of Trustee Elections. Votes are

currently being tallied and Wayne Goodfellow, our current Chairperson, will be in contact with all of our

nominees. Results will be published for our community when all nominees have been contacted.

We are looking forward to celebrating Matariki and the Maori New Year with

a Matariki breakfast at HCS on Wednesday 19th June, starting at 7.30am.

The children are working hard on their Pepeha and they are looking forward

between 7.30am and 8.15am for kai celebrations. This is a chance to visit your child’s

class and for your child to share their learning. The school will come together again in the

hall at 8.30am.

Whakapainga ēnei kai (Bless this food)

Hei oranga mō ō mātou tinana (For the health of our bodies)

Scholastic Book Fair Our annual Scholastic Book Fair is back at school and will be

open in the School Library from 8.30am until 3.30pm every day

up to and including Tuesday next week.

All of the classes will visit the fair to look at the books and we

invite you to visit before or after school on these days. There will be facilities

there for you to purchase books for home or as donations to our School Library.

This is a great opportunity to find out what books interest your children.

Purchasing books through the fair will allow the school to buy new books for our

School Library.

We appreciate your support with this.
