From the director

Volunteers have always been at the heart of Habitat for Humanitys work all over

the world. Because of Habitat volunteers hands, hearts and voices and your

leadership a world where everyone has a decent place to live looks possible.

Yes, the need for decent housing is enormous. One in 7 people around the world

lives in a slum. Seventy percent of people lack the proper documentation to the

land on which they live. Millions of people live in constant fear of eviction. The

impact of disasters all over the world gets higher and higher while hundreds of

thousands are forced to flee their home countries because of war. Seeing the

magnitude of the problem, it is easy to feel that efforts to improve lives through

safe, affordable homes are a drop in the ocean. Yet we know that every effort
