Hi, I’m Tracy Cornutt and I’m honored to be the new Executive Director for Habitat for Humanity of La Plata County. I’ve been in Durango 2 years and I’m looking forward to getting more involved in this great community! Prior to moving here, we lived in Windsor, CO where I was Executive Director for Partners Mentoring Youth of Larimer County. And before that I called central California home where I worked 12 years in international sales and marketing, was a real estate agent and then joined Spe- cial Olympics as Regional Director. My husband Don and I are building our home south of Durango where we live with our “kids”…3 horses and 2 dogs! When not working on our house, we can usually be found enjoying this beautiful area either on horseback or motorcycles. I look forward to meeting many of you in the coming months and feel free to stop in and say “hi” when you’re in the neighborhood! Please join me in thanking Nadine Chaney for all she’s done for this organization and wishing her the best in her new venture. Our newest homes are powered by their own solar systems thanks to a very gener-ous donation of full solar systems from Four Corners Solar along with a grant from Xcel Energy.

Chris Dippold and Jordan House of Four Corners Solar recognized Habitat as a worthy local project; helping families who are invested in the community and in the homes they will purchase from Habitat. The solar systems valued at approximately $35,000 consist of two 1.8 kilowatt systems and they are already installed and ready to roll. Dear Habitat Friends,

What a remarkable whirlwind these past few months have been. Our construction in Bayfield finished up in record time to hold our Home Dedication celebration; our Partner Families have taken ownership of their new homes; the Homebuilder’s Association once again, included us in the Parade of Homes tour and as their beneficiary; Alpine Bank chose us as their charity partner; Four Corners Solar extended a gift of solar systems to our families; and the La Plata County Community Development Corporation extended our ability to build into the com-ing years with the donation of four additional lots at Fox Farm Village.

We all know that “life happens” and my turn has come. As I move on taking a different path, I am pleased that Tracy Cornutt has been se-lected as new Executive Director of our Habitat affiliate beginning October 1. Tracy’s experience in the non-profit sector is exactly what is needed for us to move forward with Habitat’s mission here in La Plata County. Welcome Tracy!

Working with Habitat for Humanity has been a meaningful and re-warding experience. I absolutely love the families, staff and commu-nity that have been so supportive. I warmly extend my gratitude to all those volunteers who worked on the homes, in the Habitat Home Supply ReStore, on our board of directors as well as the many, many businesses, individuals and or-ganizations that have supported Habitat this year. I know that our work is only possible because of YOU. Blessings to All, Nadine

Angie joined her family in Durango from San Francisco. She has fallen in love with the mountains and settled in with her dog, Gracie and cat, Tulo. She works at the South City Market Pharmacy where she loves being involved with the lives of this close-knit community. She is still in shock from the awesome opportunity that Habitat has given her to own a home in 2011. “It is truly amazing to imagine that my dreams are coming true! I am so grateful to Habitat for showing me that hope, faith and hard work really can bring good news. The picture of how my future looks has suddenly become so much brighter!” She is looking forward to this new chapter of her life and establishing a home where she already feels she really belongs.

Members of the La Plata County Community Development Corporation have donated four lots to Habitat at Fox Farm Village in Bayfield. These lots include infrastructure and are located close to the current Habitat homes that have been completed in the last two years. Thanks to the forward vision of Bill Mashaw and Reid Ross who were the original foun-ders of the CDC in 2001, Fox Farm Village was created and now includes affordable housing for both Habitat and Colo-rado Housing families.

The CDC was formed to acquire land to which infrastructure was installed and sold for affordable housing projects. Many civic-minded individuals have supported the CDC since its founding and we are very grateful to them for their ef-forts. Current members include, Herb Brodsky, Reid Ross, Cathy Burgess, Sid Zink, Bob Beers, Bill Evans, John Knutson, Daniel Money, Steve Short, John Wells and Denny Ehlers.

Habitat for Humanity thanks you, and the families who now own homes in Fox Farm Village are indeed grateful!

We would like to recognize Susana and thank her for the wonderful job she does serving on our Board of Directors. Susana truly encompasses the spirit of Habitat and embraces it in her service with our organization. She wears many hats as a Board member; serving on the Family Selection Committee, the Family Support Committee, volunteering on site during Women Builds, contributing financially and helping out with the annual Wine Tasting... the list goes on and on.

Susana works at Fort Lewis College in the Center of Southwest Studies. She can be found walking all around town, embracing the Durango community spirit by attending and supporting a variety of events. We are blessed to have Susana as part of the Habitat family!
