1 Overview of SAP HANA Update Scenarios and Update Tools
This guide gives you an overview of the activities you have to perform when you update SAP HANA SPS 04 to SAP HANA SPS 05. The goal of the update activities is that an SAP HANA landscape that has been updated to SAP HANA SPS 05 has a comparable state to a newly installed SAP HANA SPS 05 landscape.The update activities are split into the following areas:
● Performing an automated updateYou perform an automated update on your SAP HANA system with the Software Update Manager (SUM).
● Updating dependent components
○ Updating the SAP HANA clientYou need to update the SAP HANA client installations that are not located on the SAP HANA system.
○ Updating the SAP HANA studioYou need to update the SAP HANA studio installations that are not located on the SAP HANA system.
○ Updating the SAP HANA replication technologies componentsYou need to update the replication technologies components that you are using in your SAP HANA landscape.
○ Updating BI clients using SAP HANAYou need to update the BI clients that you are using in your SAP HANA landscape.

2 Prerequisites
Before starting the update for the components in your SAP HANA landscape, make sure you fulfill the following prerequisites:
● The Software Update Manager for SAP HANA is installed and configured on the SAP HANA system.● You have carefully read the SAP HANA Automated Update Guide.● If you are performing an offline update, you have all the necessary installation files for the individual
components.● You have a valid, permanent SAP license for the SAP HANA database.● You have user names and passwords for the following users:
○ <sid>adm user○ sapadm user○ S-user for the SAP Service Marketplace (SMP)
● You have carefully read the update instructions for the individual components.● You have made the necessary preparations to perform backups for the SAP HANA database and the other
components.● You have made sure that the following disk space requirements for the update of the SAP HANA system are
met:
○ Directory "/" has at least 3 GB of free disk space.○ Directory "/usr/sap" has at least 6 GB of free disk space.○ Directory "/<hanamnt>" has at least 10 GB of free disk space.
NoteIf you need to enhance the disk space of your SAP HANA system, contact your hardware partner.

3 Update Process
Before updating the SAP HANA components, make sure that no read or write processes are running on the SAP HANA database. Perform the update process in offline mode during a business downtime. After the update, you have to start SAP HANA and its components again.
NoteFor information about SAP HANA administration (for example start up and shut down or backup and restore) and security, see the SAP HANA Knowledge Center on the SAP Help Portal http://help.sap.com/hana_appliance -> System Administration.
1. Stop all processes.2. Make a system backup if necessary.3. Perform an automated Update with the Software Update Manager for SAP HANA.4. Update the depending components.5. Perform the post-update steps.6. Restart all processes.
3.1 Performing an Automated Update on the SAP HANA System
An automated update of your SAP HANA system is performed using the Software Update Manager (SUM) for SAP HANA. You can use the SUM for SAP HANA in the following ways:
● Online: In the SAP HANA studio, set up a connection to the SAP Service Marketplace to automatically download the requested SPS to your SAP HANA system.
● Offline: Download the requested SPS and make it available to your SAP HANA system. In the SAP HANA studio, enter the location of the downloaded SPS.

The SAP HANA appliance software enterprise edition is intended for customers who want to use either trigger-based replication or ETL-based replication and do not already have all of the necessary licenses for SAP Data Services. It is comprised of the following components:

NoteSAP HANA information composer is a Web-based environment that allows business users to upload data to the SAP HANA database and to manipulate that data by creating information views. The SAP HANA information composer is installed separately from the SAP HANA system. For more information, see the SAP HANA Information Composer – Installation and Configuration Guide.
4.2.4 Hardware and Software RequirementsNote

NoteOnly the software installed by your hardware partners is recommended for use on the SAP HANA box. Do not install additional software on the SAP HANA box.

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 11 (see Product Availability Matrix (PAM)) – for information about installing SLES 11 in an SAP environment see SAP Note 1310037. For the SAP HANA system there are no specific requirements regarding swap space (see SAP Note 1597355).The following additional components need to be installed on the SAP HANA box:
● saphostagentThe package saphostagent.rpm is contained on the SAP HANA DVD. You need to install it manually on each additional host that is not a primary host, and on which you have not installed the software with the unified installer.

● Turn off the SLES kernel dump function (kdump) if not needed for specific reasons (for example, root cause analysis).

Network Time Protocol (NTP) We strongly recommend that you set up an NTP server for the SAP HANA system landscape.
NoteIf an NTP sever is not available, for example, trace files from distributed nodes cannot be displayed in the correct chronological order.

We recommend dedicated server network communication of 10 GBit/s between the SAP HANA landscape and the source system for efficient data replication.

4.2.5 SAP License KeyYou must install a permanent SAP license for the SAP HANA database. When you install your SAP system, a temporary license is automatically installed. Before the temporary license expires, you must apply for a permanent license key from SAP.We recommend that you apply for a permanent license key as soon as possible after installing your system.For more information on how to install the license key, see the SAP HANA Administration Guide
4.2.6 Technical System LandscapeThe figure below shows an overview of the technical system landscape for the SAP HANA appliance software and its related components, such as the SAP HANA studio and other applications, one of which is the SAP HANA information composer. Note that the figure below shows a sample configuration with three SAP HANA database servers. The figure also shows some optional components that may be purchased separately.
