Harambe-Cameroon OVERVIEW
Background
There is a large number of skilled, creative andinnovative minds in the country - a talent pool of
young adults, studying in colleges anduniversities and making their first steps in theformal and informal sectors of African economies. Our goal is to seek and implement innovative, sustainable, and entrepreneurial solutions throughcomprehensive, mutually beneficial partnershipsutilizing a bottom-up approach.
Unfortunately, as evinced by the staggeringnumber of unemployed young professionalsacross the nation, the vast majority of thesepotential entrepreneurs are unable to translate
their skills and assets into commercialventures for the benefit of their communities.
Instead of following an altruistic approachtowards development, we seek to initiatemutually beneficial partnerships in which eachactor in the economy has a vested interest in eachother’s success.
Harambe Cameroon seeks to initiate partnershipsthat motivate Cameroonians to unleash theirpotential by pursuing social, political andeconomic development initiatives; and as awhole, to fulfill the dreams of a generation and
all those to come.
Who ? Harambe-Cameroon, an independent branch of Harambe EntrepreneurAlliance (HEA) – an alliance of African students studying at leadinguniversities in the United States, Canada and Europe. Its mission is to
capture, inform and engage Africa’s global intellectual capital towards a
sustained, strategic and concerted development of the African continent.Established in September 2007 as a non-profit enterprise, HEA has quicklygrown in its outreach with 21 African Countries currently being represented. Arguably the most powerful network of the next generation of African
professionals, anywhere in the world.
What? Harambe Cameroon has spearheaded the first SocialEntrepreneurship Program in the nation, which seeks to change theparadigm as it relates to competition and social entrepreneurship amongstCameroonians . It is designed to tap into the idealism and creativity of Cameroon’s youth.
Why? To inspire a new generation of young leaders and entrepreneurswho see problems as opportunities in need of solutions and have thepoise and wherewithal to engage others to make long-lasting socialimpact.
How? Students from universities apply to integrate the Harambe “Problem-Solvers’ Club”, located in 5 regional universities. Admitted students aresubmitted 3 challenges to solve each month. The top-5 problem-solversfrom each club, (total of 25 national) are invited to an intensive 4-Daysbusiness camp (Business Incubator) where students are empowered with the
tools to translate their ideas into ventures as they are exposed to industryexperts and mentors and engage in workshops and roundtable discussions. In 5 teams of 5, each team proposes a social innovation project – that wouldsolve a social problem while generating some revenue. The Top-2 projectideas receive both rewards and seed funding for the implementation of theirsocial innovation projects.

Harambe-Cameroon: HICSEP - RAISON D’ÊTRE
In order to tap into the creativity of the next generation of Cameroonian professionals, the youth need to take control of their destiny with the help of their predecessors. Harambe Cameroon believes it is critical to establish effective systemsthat support the development of entrepreneurial skills among this demographic. Understanding that Cameroon’s greatestresource is its people, and that 60% of its population is under 24 years of age, empowering the youth will go a long way
to establish the economic security of the country.
In light of this conviction, Harambe Cameroon, through its Harambe Incubator – Cameroon Social Entrepreneurship
Program (HICSEP), seeks to provide a platform that will help foster entrepreneurial skills among Cameroon’s youth.
Pre-selected university students will sign-up in this program to gain the entrepreneurial skills that will prepare them, not
only for The Problem Solvers Competition, but more importantly to equip them with the skills to think innovatively, act
locally and connect globally.
i. Each workshop will be conducted by leaders in the specific fields, both
from Cameroon and abroad.
ii. Workshops will be held during 4-days. This will require a minimum time
commitment from both guest speakers and the selected students.
iii. Each workshop will be televised by a local channel, in order to have a larger
impact on the Cameroonian community.
Expected Results: At the end of the Harambe Incubator Cameroon Social
Entrepreneurship Program(HICSEP), Cameroonian students would present
innovative, sustainable, and locally-based solutions to pending problems in our urban
